Triathlon's

Yes!! Earplugs are a huge help! I always come out of the water and feel like I am stumbling around with vertigo if I don't wear them :) Hey, gals! This is sooooo much fun chatting with you about Triathlon!! And, it is also exciting to see how many of us use the Cathe workouts to strengthen us for other types of activities. I was teaching full time last year (as well as being Mommy to my three little boys 7, 6 and 4) so I had to workout at 4:30am every morning. I did Cathe workouts during the week and then ran/rode on weekends. I just love her workouts!! Anyway, this year is a little calmer for me so I can actually swim, ride, run during the week. But, I work out to Cathe at least 4x per week on top of that to do my strength and interval training :)

Hi Everyone -

Someone sent this to me and I thought everyone might enjoy - :)

Top 10 Reasons to love being a back-of-the-pack triathlete:

10. By spending as much time as possible on course, you really get your money's worth for what you paid to register.
9. Plenty of room to maneuver in T1, what with all the other bikes gone already.
8. Never having to endure the disappointment of defeat or the pressure of trying to win.
7. Your finisher's medal: it looks just like the winner's.
6. The respect and admiration of anyone who has never done a triathlon, and the respect and admiration of everyone who has.
5. You are very likely to PR at every race.
4. Making new friends on the run course.
3. You can take the time to smile and thank all of the volunteers, police, and EMS on course.
2. Seeing your friends and training buddies - all the ones who finished already - cheering for you at the finish line.
And the NUMBER 1 REASON to love being a back-of-the-pack triathlete...
1. You will never, EVER have to contemplate peeing on your bike.

Regina, that is so great!! Competing against myself is what it's about for me!

Courtney, the fact that you trained with 3 young children is amazing!! My boys are 16 & 18 now so it makes it doable for me. I cannot imagine doing it when they were young. Hats off to you! & yes cathe workouts gave me a solid base to work with. I could never give up my strength training or Cathe for that matter.

Regina!!! I am LMAO at that post! It is terrific!! Thanks for adding a HUGE smile to my day...so funny :) Maynardsmom, thanks for all the sweet words! Yes, it continues to be a challenge to train with three little fellas but my husband is a huge support. I do most of my training when either the boys are in school or before they even wake up in the morning. That being said, I will have to boost my training a lot after the New Year because I am doing the Amica Ironman 70.3 Rhode Island on July 8, 2012..... That means longer endurance rides on the weekend and 2x a day workouts. So, I hope it all falls into place well! My family always comes first so I am planning everything around that :) And, no.....I have no plans to pee on my bike....LOL!

This is wonderful - made my day. Enjoyed all the posts and will have to pass this on to a couple of friends :D

Just like we say at the RoadTrips...CATHLETES ROCK!!!
:p

That check in would be awesome. We should start it in Feb 2012. Whose up?????
I have yet another question :) For the 3 mile bike ride, my husband said I need to purchase a road bike. I know those can be pricey. I do have a bike that he gave me for my birthday about 3 years ago. It's the one that looks retro with the basket and the big seat can I use that one?????

Just kidding! LOL Imagine me coming down the trail with that ??? It's actually just a regular bike would I be able to use that?

I just used a regular bike. There were all kinds of different bikes there, from the expensive road bikes to the retro looking bike (yep, I'm not kidding, no basket though :)), to hybrid to mountain bikes. You might want to hold off on the purchase of a road bike until you decide if you really like doing it, just my opinion though. We actually had a store that would rent the bikes and deliver them to the tri for you.

I'm up for the check in. I'll leave it up to you to remember to start it in Feb ;)

As far as the bike I think you will do better with a roadbike but she is right in that you'll see all kinds. I bought a Trek roadbike for mine, on the cheaper end ($680) & I was happy with it. I saw 4 of my bikes there. Maybe if you found one you could borrow to test ride so you could see the difference. Just a thought.

can't wait till Feb :)

I'm in!

LOVE the top 10!!!!!! I have the worst completely psychological issues with the bathroom when it comes to racing. I could literally walk from the bathroom to the starting line and still feel like I am about to wet my pants for the first part of EVERY race - totally mental. I see my mantra being "please don't pee on the bike, please don't pee on the bike...." :D

I would love to keep up with everyone on our preparation! Mine is on the 20th of May. I get to borrow try out my BILs bike to see if it will work for me. If it doesn't, I might end up tricking out my 10 year-old son's 10 speed bike for the trek. I read a story about a guy who had his bike totaled right before his event and he had to use his girlfriend's bike which had a nice white basket on the front!!!! How awesome would that sight be!!!

I'm totally scared but really excited at the same time!
