To the males on this forum........

Dave and Bill are the first two to come to mind, but I'm sure there are others out there......just wanted to know what Cathe workouts do you do? I tried to get my DH to do a Cathe w/o and we started doing Supersets together until the phone rang and I never saw him again. He was sore the next day but he doesn't seem to like Cathe. Actually, I think it's more of an "uh-oh" type of reaction when I mention doing a Cathe workout. He seems more of a P90X type of guy but he didn't stick to that one either. He's dropping pounds due to a healthier diet, but I think he would really be amazed at his results if he would do Cathe and Tony on a regular schedule. What do you guys think?

Angie

Hey, I've also wondered about what workouts you guys on the forum use. My DH also avoids working out with me with the "uh-oh" reaction :)

Bump...
I think this is a good question as well. I have many male friends who I would love to do Cathe workouts but they can't seem to get past the "she's a woman" thing. What got you guys past it and what workouts do you do??

I'am also curious about what workouts the males on the forums do! My DH can't get past the "she's a women" thing either!

7 years ago I was told to stop running. Arthritis and congenital hip degeneration. I was to young for a hip replacement. I started doing aerobics with Denise Austin and one day she used a step. I bought a step to try it out, it came with a Cathe tape. I do other step workouts by other "coaches" as well. I would rather do a workout with a "OMG its a woman" than that screaming lunatic Richard Simmons who has probably turned many men off to Aerobics.

In spite of a new right hip (left one due in a year or two) I don't do high impact when my joints have to support weight, I save that for the pool or bike. Most of Cathe's catalog is too intense for me.

My participation on the forum is mostly support and entertainment.

Any other questions?

LMAO Carole. I was thinking to myself.....And Denise didn't turn you off? Hmmmm, I wonder if Denise and Richard studied together?
}( }( :D

LD..:)...you know in all honesty we all like different instructors for different reasons. I think it's great Denise & Richard are helping people find exercise...they are just not my cup of tea.

I also think both Dave and Bill are great assets to this forum and have always read their posts. I have tried to get my DH to exercise forever!! He could probably take some tips from these guys...:)

So Dave, specifically which Cathe workouts do you do on a regular basis? Which one is your favorite?

Also, did you get in on the P90X frenzy? Just curious......

Thanks!;-)

I don't think he does Cathe workouts. He said they are too intense for him and that he's here for support and entertainment.

I have Cathe All Step, which I believe is part of the Cross Train Express series. I mix that up with some of the Nike step as well as others (I'm trying to respect the company that pays for the board here)

I work cardio 2x a week, strength 3x. I only use video for cardio and only when the weather prohibits exercising outdoors. I wore a pedometer at work for a week, I average 5 miles per shift. My exercise needs aren't as great as other peoples. When I was 30 (I'm 47 now) I averaged 70 to 100 miles of running per week. In a race once I covered 10 miles in about 58 minutes.

I'm not knocking it but I've never understood video strength training. I imagine that whatever gets people up off the sofa is great.

Denise has that "sacharine sweet" cheerleader attitude which isn't as bad as Richard, I can stand her for a 30 minute workout if he even opens his mouth and I'm turning him off.

I also participate on VideoFitness under the same name.

In my return to exercise after the surgery these boards, because of all of you wonderful people, have been very supportive.

To get your DH off the sofa has to come from within him.

I'm female but have my husband using Cathe's workouts without much trouble. He resisted at first because he doesn't like "dance-y" workouts & that may true for lots of men. I don't like dance-type routines either. We bought Coremax, Muscle max, & Bootcamp/Muscle endurance. I've recorded others off fitTV so we test drive them and decide which to buy after trying them out. We both like the kick box ones. He was impressed with how much work you can do with relatively light weights.

Hi Angie,
I am one of the males on the forum.I do all of Cathe's workouts.I feel she is one of the best trainers out there.I remember at first I felt kind of awkward jumping around my basement with a group of women however the workouts yield results & are so much fun I have became addicted.Have him try try the videos with the two guys.Bootcamp & Cardio Kicks.I also recommend most of the strength videos. He may want to start with a total body workout like MIS and go from there.Once he becomes more comfortable he can isolate the body parts depending on his goals.I find most of Cathe's are edurance based but he can change the programs to make it work for him. If he is loking to bulid muscle.Remeber 8-10 reps.PS can easily be changed to work like S&H & vice versu. Now on to other trainers.I do recomend Tony Horton & Tom Holland.Excellent programs that are doable. He may want to try Jari Love. She has men in her videos and these are excellent endurance programs.I started many years ago with Gilad.I think he is excellent. You can always make a workout your own.My friend who is an olympic trainer told me it is up to you to make the workout. You can make it hard or easy. That being said I can't do Cathe all the time - I make someone like Gilad more difficult. To learn step he may want to consider Kathy Smith,Gilad & Keli Roberts. They will give him the foundation.Cathe may be intimidating at first but once you catch on it's fairly straightforward.I get them in about 3-4 times.Patrick Goudeau & Seasun Zieger took me at least 10-12 times.
Take care
Chris
