Tight pants question

Chrissysu

Cathlete
Hi, everyone,

I have been working out pretty intensely to Cathe for the last 3 weeks or so. I've been doing a mix of cardio and strength. What I've noticed about my body is a little mixed. I seem to be a lot more toned looking (less cellulite - hooray!), but my pants have been fitting a lot tighter! Eeek! I have not gained nor lost any weight, so I'm trying to figure out what is going on?!?!?!

Any ideas? Help! I certainly don't want this to continue.

Thanks,
Chrissy

Hi Chrissy,

I am not Cathe but I have also noticed this because I take a lot of cycling classes and my instructor said that when you start a new program or type of exercise you sometimes will see a weight gain and fell "bigger" than usual because it takes 4-6 weeks to see results and you will build muscle and then burn the fat. So I would wait 2or 3 more weeks and then some changes might start occuring!!

Good Luck!;)

Gee I thought I was the only one . When My jeans start getting tight ,its usually just above my knees .I back off the step some .. And do more kick boxing ....I dont get it either though .EEEk here too LOL Any other pointers here ????

I want to point out that you want to be very careful about your eating as well. That will make a big difference in how your body will look and feel in the next 2 or 3 weeks, like the above poster said. EATING plays a HUGE part in our fitness journey.

HTH!
take care:)

Nothing to avoid as far as fitness goes.

When I first started exercising, I actually gained 6 pounds in muscle but didn't lose fat for about 6 weeks. I started at 138 pounds and went to 144. Three years later, I'm sitting here at 121!

My advice is to keep it up because it works over time. It's a process. And it starts with building up your muscles and making them more dense. Then the fat comes off. Then you begin to refine... but that's another topic.

i feel ya! i am having the same problem also loose in the waist and tight around the thights i just wanted u to know your not along:)

Hey Chrissy,

I had the exact same problem. It wasn't until I really changed my diet and started eating "clean", that my pants started getting looser. Clean eating is the key!

Hi there!

I agree with Tammy. I have changed my diet tremendously in the past ten months and have seen the results I've been aiming for all these years. I thought I was eating pretty healthy all this time, but realized when I signed on here in January that I could do a lot better. I have genetically high cholesterol and my cholesterol even went down to 285 w/my bad cholesterol going up to 79. I think a lot about what I buy, cook and eat now.

After doing the August rotation I didn't see a change in the scale, but my, my where my jeans, shorts, etc. much looser! :7

Good Luck! Hope you find out what works for you.

ok, so we all know that we need to keep up with the workouts, but what I want to know is, what is the key to clean eating? I thought I was eating clean, but now I am starting to doubt everything I've been doing...I have an occasional treat, but with all of my efforts, cannot drop any weight. And I could stand to lose at least 15#. Do any of you follow a specific plan such as South Beach, or use protein shakes, etc? Thanks for the advice!

Connie

What ever happened to that lie that all one had to do is workout out for 20 minutes three times a week and one could eat anything they wanted (it sounded too good to be true)? Cheated, I feel cheated. I was looking forward to eating cherry pie and chocolate cake all day long for the rest of my life. Oh well, I guess apples and corn are just as good (ha).

Connie there is no true plan to clean eating. In my definition clean eating is eating foods that are as close to their natural state as possible. Ie; clean = Apple unclean apple pie. So, processed foods are not a good option. Like flour and sugar. So, protein shakes, probably not the best option to get your protein in. Where eating chicken, fish or any lean meat is better.
Oatmeal, avoid the quick cooking oats, and get old fashioned oatmeal or steal cut oats, or Scottish oatmeal.
I hope that this helped out a little.

For protein, don't forget tofu. It's amazingly versitle and really good for you too! And beans and rice(brown)are a great protein as well. I agree with eating things as close to nature intended as possible but I do include canned beans into that equation.
Adding a protein bar now and then isn't a bad thing either(just read the labels for too much sugar). It's a great, quick snack for between meals.

Hi Chrissy! You have gotten some nice advise here. I would also like to add that after a really hard workout, the muscles swell with water to help repair them. This is especially noticeable after a heavy leg workout (tight pants indeed!). The swelling is temporary (1 to 3 days) depending on how hard you worked your muscles. Keep drinking water (about 8 to 10 ounces every two hours) to help flush out additional water retention and aid in muscle repair.

Good Luck!
