Those against a modifier in high impact workouts, what's the downside?

No worries here

I have no issue with a modifier or without. Truth be told, if I need to modify one of the workouts, I just do it. But that is me.

I just modify if I need to also. But - I think it is nice to show options, even in advanced workouts. CLX is considered advanced, and she has a moifier. P90X had modifiers.

I will buy Cathe's workouts either way (as I've said before) but I still think having modifers is a good thing and would be appreciated.

I cant believe this is such a big deal to people. I have been doing the Firm workouts for several years, and they always had a modifier. I recently switched to Cathe because I think her workouts are far superior. But everytime I pop in Cathe DVD and I come to a certain move that my ankle just doesnt like I think to myself, out of all these girls on the set, why cant one be showing a modification?! It makes me feel like Im the only person in the world who cant do the move. If they had someone showing a low impact, high intensity variation, I would be thrilled to pieces!!! But others are saying that a modifier is a bad idea because its not "visually pleasing"!! I think that on behalf of all those bum knees, ankels, toes, and backs out there that YES there should be modifiers. Cathes workouts will still be great!

ITA!

And I can't think of any other instructor (though I'm sure there are some out there) who doesn't show some kind of modification or variation for cardio workouts. The best, IMO, show both lower-impact/less-torque modifications that are still high intensity, as well as more intense 'take it up a notch' variations.

And modifications aren't just for the 'less-than-advanced' exerciser : the same person may want/need a different modification of the workout on different days. (The tone of some of these "advanced exercisers don't need modifiers" posts is a bit snobbish, IMO.)

Yes, I can figure out my own mods, but why not be more user friendly and show someone doing them, especially since there has been a demand for it, and since many of Cathe's loyal, long-term followers are getting to the age where working out smarter is so important.

As for the concern that none of the backgrounders would be comfortable with doing mods, I can't imagine Jai or Cedie or Brenda or Lorraine are less competent and capable of doing so than background exercisers in other advanced workouts.

I think it would be awesome if there were modifiers also. I don't modify very often (so far), but it would be nice to have them when needed. I do modify on my own sometimes, but there are definitely new and interesting ways to do it that I'm sure I wouldn't always think of right off hand when doing a workout (being that I am not an exercise choreographer :p).

Like I've seen modifications in Kelly Coffey-Meyer's workouts that I wouldn't have thought to do, but still seem intense enough and fun.

I would like to make one clarification to my earlier post. Just because I think the advanced workouts shouldn't need a modifier, doesn't mean that having modifiers would affect my choice to purchase or utilize Cathe's workouts.

I love her workouts, her style and the challenge of her dvds! I guess what I'm really saying is that I'm not for or against modifiers. It's not THAT big of a deal.

On another note, I don't find any of Cathe's dvds unsafe either. Of course, I don't have STS yet, so I can't speak to that one. I, too, have seen the pics from the Shock Cardio rehearsals and all I see is a very tough high intensity cardio dvd. I expect that anyone who doesn't feel up to the challenge wouldn't buy it just as if you don't like a particular preview for a movie, you wouldn't go see it, or if you don't like heights, you won't go skydiving. Judge by your ability.

Again, just MHO.

Well said. I think to, modify what you do. I think so many think they have to keep up with Cathe and crew. Just do your best and use Cathe's ability as a goal. As for safety, her workouts are the safest around. That's one of the things I love about Cathe. This is one of the reasons I don't mind waiting for a pre-order because I know I'm getting a quality, safe routine.
