They seem a little intense...

I have been looking at the video clips for Cathe's videos and am a little intimidated by the intensity and the somewhat lack of cueing. I kind of get the feeling that if you already don't know her moves, then you will have to watch the tape a couple of times to get the hang of it.

Which brings me to what I need some help with please: I would like to purchase one or two of her tapes specifically something in a circuit since I like Circuit Max but thought it to be very intense, but I don't know which ones are for Beginner/Intermediates. I am an Intermediate in Old FIRM/Fiprime tapes but with Cathe cardio tapes I think I would need Beg/Intermed.

Thanks for any help you can give!

I think Cathe's market is the advanced exerciser. To my knowledge she has no beginner tapes. I've read on VF that Cathe is about the toughest maker of exercise tapes that exists, although I do not want to dissuade you from trying her stuff.

I also think her cueing is rather good, and I think that's one thing she's known for. I'm not sure what video clips you may have seen.

That being said, the perfect tape for you would be Cardio and Weights, it's fun, it's quite easy and it's circuits. Some of her earlier step tapes are easier choreography and a bit less intense. I hear Step Jam, The Wedding Tape, Mega Step Blast mentioned a lot as step tapes to start with. You can also get any tape of Cathe's and just do it on 4" or 6" until you work up the cardiovascular capacity. Same with the weights, just choose a weight that you can handle. You may want to do leg work with no weight at all, just the weight of your body.

I think Cardio and Weights is the best place for you to start though, given what you have said. You might also try Boot Camp. Good luck.

Hi there :)

I'm not really sure that any of Cathe's videos are beginner/intermediate. Her stuff is basically advanced, BUT please don't pass these videos up. You can surely modify anything you want... Watch it a time or two before you try the video.. then use no step, or just the very top of your step and just hang in there and learn it. It will take a few times before you really get the moves, I'm sure. I think even those of us who are used to her moves don't get it right away. But if you are patient and take the time to rewind, replay, and modify... you will definitely reap a tremendous amount of benefits. From what I hear, there are some of her older tapes that are much much better for those wanting to learn her coreography... but I'm not sure which they are. I'm sure the others here at the forum could tell you. Whatever you do, don't get too frustrated if you can't seem to get it for awhile... you will and you'll love it.

Good luck!!!

Hi there. I'm definitely in the beginner area where Cathe is concerned, but I have tons of fun with Step Heat. I do use a 4" step still with this, but I get a wonderful cardio workout and have fun at the same time. I love the music in Step Heat too.

I agree with Mogambo re "Cardio and Weights". The choreography is very easy to learn since each cardio section is simply laid out and pretty repetitive. And the weight work you can make hard or easy depending on the weights you want to use that day.

A great way to start Cathe and your day!

You will LOVE these workouts and anyone can do them with a little practice. Her workout "Cardio & Weights" is like Circuit Max but not as nearly intense! It is SUCH a blast too! You will have so much fun! Give it a try, I promise, you'll LOVE it!!!

A lot of people say to start out with her workout called "How to get in Shape For your Wedding"...also "Step Heat", "Mega Step Blast", and "Step Jam" are good ones to start with also. These are some of her older workouts.

If you want a GREAT not as intense NEWER/Totally FUN workout of hers definitely get "Cardio & Weights". You're gonna love it!!

Have Fun!

Thanks to all of you for your input. I am going to try Weights & Cardio and let you know how I do with it. Maybe one of these days I will graduate to Circuit Max. ;-)

I tend to agree to start with Cathe old videos... something in the Classic Vol 1 DVD. The intensity is not as high, and you will get used to 'Cathe talk'. In the newer videos, she sort of assumes that you are familiar with her moves from previous tape. Actually, from the intensity series, there are probably maximum 5 'new' moves... others are a compilation from her other videos.

As you get better with Cathe lingo and moves, you will become better exerciser... probably moving to intermediate. Then I would try the videos from Cardio Hits. After that, I think you can pick and choose which videos you like. HTH.

That's awesome Curvie Girl! Definitely let us know how you do...

...and you will definitely graduate to Circuit Max in NO TIME! These workouts build up your endurance quickly!
