There must be some mistake...

So this morning, I groggily stepped upon the scales (I know, a bad morning ritual) to find I had gained another pound. Two and a half pounds this week! I thought, "There must be some mistake!" I've had a traumatic week with my litttle boy starting kindergarten, etc. So I've not eaten perfectly well, but I haven't had any splurge days. I have increased my weights though (moved from 24lb max on squats to 40lb max and LOVE the heavier weight). I've also done more weight-lifting workouts this week than cardio (Friday-Power Hour on FitTV plus YBB for cardio, Saturday-off because my hip was hurting, Sunday-Muscle Endurance, Monday-Bootcamp, Tuesday-Push/Pull on FitTV). Could the extra weight and focus on strenth training this week have made my muscles swell that two pounds or is it more likely actual weight gain? I get nervous when the scales move in the wrong direction... Any help would be appreciated, greatly....

Stephanie, have you eaten a lot of salt lately? It could be water retentention or perhaps it's close to TTOM?

No more salt than normal. I may have just picked up a couple of pounds from not eating as well as normal. I plan on cleaning up my diet tremendously. I saw Dr. Oz on Oprah yesterday and I decided to make a couple of changes. I eat well, but I eat a lot of processed food (organic and healthy, but processed). I need to eat fresher. Maybe this will help.

Stephanie,

I always gain up to 4lbs at least if I do enough lifting to make myself sore...doms.
Everytime.

hth :)

Kims, You made my morning! Thanks for saying that! I've definitely felt the difference this week, maybe that's it -- or at least partially to blame. Thanks!

Stephanie,

Unless you have an expensive body fat scale, this is where it gets tricky using a scale to measure progress (especially with only a couple pounds). Without a break down of what you've gained you don't know if you should be celebrating or crying. :)

But I'm siding with Kim, especially since you've increased your weights so much. I bet it's muscle gain. (Now put that scale in the basement ;) ).
