The wonders of a good stretch

I have a confession......

I am a stretch skipper. Don't like it. Don't do it. Don't like sitting in my own sweat for 10 mins and stretching out things that feel fine. Want to be in the shower. Stretches waste time that I could be using for something else. Stretches are slow. Stretches are boring. Stretches are a funny looking word when you type it over and over.

Stretches are......wonderful!!!! Mmmmm....... ohhh.....yeah...... 'scuse me, need a moment:eek::p:eek:

I have decided that even though I dislike stretching my aging parts need it. I started a 3rd round of STS a little more than a month ago (I am in the middle of my 1st rest week) and decided I WILL do the extended stretch at the end, each and every time and I will not skip the stretch on cardio days. I made myself this promise before, but didn't stick to it. I have stuck with it this time, except for 2 days when I was REALLY crunched for time. I even bought SM about a week ago, to use on running days. In just a month's time, most of the little niggling aches and pains and "not rights" have gone away. I get less DOMS (although they are still there, esp after leg day). Bits and parts that used to bother me don't anymore. My joints feel better (although they still ache when it needs to rain, but that's something else).

Who knew? Ok, everybody knew, so did I, I'm just slow:p No more skipping the stretching for me. I still don't like it, and find it slow and boring, but I will be doing it steadily and not skipping it.

Hi Nan,

I'm a skipper too. :D Always thinking about what else I could be doing. Maybe I need to follow your plan of sticking to stretches. Could be what my hips need.

I'm glad for you and your great results. I, too, am in my third round of STS and have vowed to do the stretches. I hope I have the same great results.

I never skip the stretch because I love it. I will even add on longer stretches if I have time. I find that as you get older you really need it more.

I am like Phyllis and will add more stretch if time allows. I love it because sometimes it is the most quieting part of the day! (Besides sleep). Looking at it like that makes me look forward to it. I'm about to start Meso 3 Saturday, doing the 6 month rotation, and doing the Extended Stretch every single workout got a little bit old, so I started mish-moshing other stretches from other workouts. Just an idea if you're bored and/or need a shorter stretch.

Good post. I need to make myself the same promise. I skip my stretches almost every day and my body is nothing but big knots of muscle. Thanks for the positive post and I think you made me want to do stretching again. :)

I wish I had time to stretch. I am usually late for everything so I skip the stretches but I know I shouldn't. i don't even cool down, because that's when I put away my equipment.

I stretched a few times, and I like it, but that was when I was on my sabbatical and had tons of time. I hope I don't have to wait until I retire to put stretching in my schedule!

I l.o.v.e. to stretch! In addition to my regular post-workout stretch I do a half hour daily of Classical Stretch and twice a week I get an hour-long CS in. I feel leaner & more flexible and I love it!
