The things people do at hair salons.........

I just got back from my semi-annual haircut & saw some pretty funny stuff. My salon is pretty upscale--one of the best in the area without actually going into NYC. And quite frankly my hair is really easy to cut--it's all one length--but so many people have screwed it up (how? I have no idea! Once I came home from the Hair Cuttery with one side 3 inches shorter than the other. Once I came home from a different expensive salon nearby with my hair 5 inches shorter after asking for a trim). So I shell out the money just to be safe.

The first thing that had me totally wide-eyed was a woman who brought her 18 month old son in for a haircut. Probably I'm gonna make one of my infamous but unintended insults here, but I thought it was hilarious. The kid barely even had hair & she spent $50 to get it cut. :7 Can one of you moms please explain this to me? If I were his mom I'd be at home with a Flowbie & a baby comb.

The other one that really stood out was this woman who had her hair colored so red it was fuschia. I swear I am not making this up. Isn't hair color supposed to look natural? Are there any women out there whose natural color is fuschia? I don't know if the stylist really screwed it up or if she asked for it, but I'm guessing she asked for it b/c she was sitting in the chair pleased as pie at her new 'do.

Anyone else have salon stories to share? Anne, I bet you have a book full of them........}(

I am hard-pressed to spend $50 on a haircut for myself let alone my kid! OMG! I got Joey his first "professional" hair cut at about 1 year old and it cost all of $9.00!!!!:+ The other night he got another haircut and this one was FREE!!!! DH and I attacked him with the clippers and gave him a long buzz!:D

Fuscia hair? INTERESTING! LOLOL

Well, some parents like to make a big fuss out of the first haircut. I know we took ours to upscale salons the first time through, but I am fairly certain we did not pay $50. :)

LauraMax, some crazy colors are really popular right now. I noticed a lot of people are getting blue and purple extensions, particularly in the underneath area behind the head. I think they're interesting but not something I'd do, personally.

My 45 year old dh has been using the Flowbie for 13 years!:p He refuses to go a barber. I'd NEVER spend $50 for my child to get his hair cut. Nev-ver. I agree, hair should look at least somewhat natural, but I think there are far too many women just don't realize how UNnatural their hair really looks.

My son is 3 and I got tired of literally chasing him down with the clippers, so DH takes him to the barber and spends $20 on a cut. It's more than I'd like, but frankly the convenience and not having to vacuum hair up for a week is worth it.

Fuschia hair turns no heads around here - I'm surprised something like that stood out to you, especially near NYC. :)

I think its funny how some people think that their hair looks terrific with different colored stripes in it - - seriously!!! When does looking like a skunk ever look good ;)

Anyways it tooke me FOREVER to find the perfect hair stylist - one key thing - her hair looks terrific - her highlights very pretty and natural looking - they blend well in her hair and give it dimension, not five different colors - -

Ever since using her - I get alot of compliments :)

As far as children go - who - what - why would EVER spend that much money!!!! sighhhhhh.........why not give to charity if you have that kind of money laying around...........

My old hair salon was across the street from a trendy strip club. I guess the same girls that worked there got their hair done at my salon. The strippers always had interesting hair - it was part of them being of stage. Pink hair extensions, white and black bi-colored hair, red hair that matched red thigh high boots, and yes FUSCHIA... it was wild.

Wendy,
I bought a pair of clippers at Sam's, and I cut my DH hair and my 19 month old son's hair.

As for interesting hair salon tales...I used to go to a guy named "Steve". He had (and still has) waist length dark hair that is tinted burgundy. He has a "back room" that he does wig work. I was in that salon this summer to get my hair done for a wedding. I peeked in that room, and there was hair all over the floor. And, I was there first thing in the morning (ewwwwwwwwwwww). I just happened to go there because my sis-in-law, who was getting married, lives right next door, and all the girls were getting their hair done. It just really freaked me out. Needless to say, I haven't been going to him for cuts for years!!!!!!

There's plenty of fuschia and neon green and purple hair being colored at my salon which is in the Village/Soho area. I assume those people are fashionistas, artists, actors, etc. However, the majority of customers are dull, stodgy types like me getting subtle highlights. :+

LOL, my husband has also been using a Flowbie for about 13 years!! I figure that the savings that the Flowbie has allowed justifies the fact that I pay my hair stylist $35 each to cut my 13 year old and 10 year old daughters' hair. I have experienced just too many really!!!bad hair cuts on my daughters and it's just not worth it to me to risk a bad cut (especially for the newly teenager :) :) ).

Okay, I have an amazing one. The owner of my salon is on TV, and people from all over save up to come into the city to get one $400 haircut from him. They usually leave happy and looking fabulous.

One day I came in and there was a woman who had hair about down to her knees, with 3 assistants doing a blow-dry. When I asked about her, they told me she saved up $400 to have her hair cut by Nick and then only allowed him to cut two inches. Nick told her it would make no difference, but she insisted. So she came in with ugly hair down to her knees, paid $400, and left with the same ugly hair down to her knees, but 2 inches shorter.

The staff told me that what she allowed Nick to do, a friend could have done for her for free. Absolute certifiable wacko.

My son was 16 months old when he got his first haircut. Daddy took him to the salon, and they returned with my son's hair only cut in the back of his head. He apparently screamed the whole time, and Daddy and hairstylist gave up!

Since then, I cut my son's hair with clippers myself while he watches his favourite video. Easy on all of us, and it's free!:7
