The police took my neighbor away! Long

Wow! I can't believe it actually happened! I've posted before about my next door neighbor who cuts her grass with scissors all summer long while ranting about conspiracy theories, etc. She didin't have a phone line, no ac, didn't put garbage out, etc.

Last week my DH's cousin who is a funeral director called and asked me if I knew this particular address. When he told me the name, I told him it was my unstable neighbor. Turns out her only living relative-her sister-had died more than a week ago and they'd been trying to reach her as next of kin! He recognized our street name and thought I could notify her asap. I told him she didn't open her door for anyone-even the police. The police did come out and tried-nothing. Last week someone from Adult Social Services came by while I was getting my mail and I gave the lady a summary of everything that has happened the past 6 years. She came back with the police yesterday. They were in the house for an hour and wouldn't discuss anything with me, because of privacy issues, obviously. Well, the police and EMS came back today and removed her from the home! On one hand, I'm SO relieved. It's been a nightmare living next door to her. On the other, I feel bad for her. She's needed help for a long time. I don't know what's going to happen to the house. The officer who spoke to us today thinks she won't be back, that she'll end up a ward of the state-she had her purse in a garbage bag hidden in her closet-that she's truly unstable. Wow, I just can't believe it!

Although this is so sad, as a licensed professional counseor, I'm glad she's getting help.

It is sad in a way, but she's much better off. It's much more painful seeing someone who's not capable of taking care of herself insist that she's capable of taking care of herself.

At least now she can have some kind of quality of life.
