The new fashion trends...

I never did get rid of some of my leggings and empire waist tunics from the 90's, so if they're back in style I won't have to shop for a new wardrobe! However, my tastes have changed from being very style conscious to preferring the outdoor casual look. I love baggy cargo pants, loose tops, and hiking boots. I do most of my shopping now from the Sierra Traders catalogs and EMS. Saves me lots of headaches because that stuff never goes out of style.

I have to disagree. I love clothes and can always find something when I shop. I just told my DH the other day...I need to find more places to go because of all the cute clothes. I am a SAHM, so I don't dress up much. One of the malls close to here has every store you can think of. I think itis the 2nd biggest mall. OT but I highly recommend the road trippers to stop by this mall if you love to shop! Oh, it is The King Of Prussia mall.

I am 35 and I can find something in any store too I just buy what I like. Now that I started back in school I will be cutting back.

So, what do stylish 50+ women wear? ;)

I'm 50, and I while I do find many of the styles unflattering these days, I really have found some cute stuff this year. I have my usual places to shop, and I know exactly what I like, so I have pretty good luck.

The main style I dislike this year are the little camisole tops that look like maternity shirts. They are really cute and fitted around the bust line, and then they billow out around your waist like you're 8 months pregnant. I refuse to wear them. I don't workout like a maniac to maintain my shape only to camoflauge it with a "maternity" top! Ugghh!

One trend I avoid is super low rise jeans. You have to be really careful with them. An attractive women came to my workplace to help out at our building from another building. She was bending down to do some thing and well lets just say that the area she was working in became a VERY heavy traffic area, heavy with male traffic walking by to get a look at her butt that was half hanging out. I felt like saying something to warn her but I did not really know what to say that would not come off sounding weird.

Has KOP mall expanded? Last time I was there--admittedly about 20 years ago--it was teeny tiny. Plus it's about 90 minutes from Glassboro.

Best mall for roadtrippers is Cherry Hill, about 20 minutes away. That mall is HUGE--that might be the one you're thinking of. KOP used to be more high end but I think that's changed--CH mall made a push for high end stores in the 90s & I think it's now a fabulous place to shop.

Of course, nothing can compare to the Short Hills mall, a mere 10 minutes from me........the Jersey girl's option to 5th Avenue.....;-)

Ugg, the "empire waist" stuff. unless the bottom half is fitted, it does make everyone look pregnant or fat. Jennifer Love Hewitt wears that style all the time on "Ghost Whisperer," and I find it attrocious.

On the other hand, the empire cut with a fitted torso is very flattering and slimming.

The babydolls. I really like them if they fit properly--you're right that if there's too much material it can make even the slimmest woman look fat, but they can be very flattering for small-busted women. I've found some really adorable tops--I wouldn't quite call them fitted, they're not snug around the torso but they don't "billow" either. One thing I've found is price definitely makes a difference w/this particular fashion. Higher end brands make a much more flattering babydoll than the cheap stuff.

I love those babydoll tops...my only problem is that most of the ones that I've tried on fall right at the fullest part of my thighs. (I'm a shorty.) Hem them, you say? Me? ;) I am thinking of getting a couple and getting the woman who does alterations at my dry cleaners to do it.

Knee-length cotton skirts are my favorite. I love them. With tees in the spring or summer...with no hose and a pair of flats - I'm in heaven.

I'm 50 and I just don't like to wear what, I guess, is age appropriate for me. I'm not even sure if I know what that is. My life and my workplace are pretty casual, so as long as I have jeans, skirts, tee shirts, and a few flirty tops, I'm okay.

I do like the tunic tops and baby doll tops, as well as the wide belts over a tunic/shirt. Not touching skinny jeans with a ten foot pole or leggings - I think they only look good on about .0000001 percent of the population.

I am just hoping I don't get asked if I am pregnant wearing a baby doll top - that would be a nightmare!

Yes, I've also been having trouble finding clothes these past two seasons, and I haven't been real crazy about the colors, either. It seems like everything looks kinda washed out. As far as the styles, the skinny pants and the extra-long shirts are not flattering on me. Plus, I have found that the pants seem to be longer than usual. Even one of my tall friends, who usually complains about things not being long enough, has remarked about it. Usually, I get most of my stuff from Ann Taylor Loft, but lately, it's been a bust. I have been losing weight these past few months, so I'm not trying to go crazy - I've just been looking to find some inexpensive staple pieces to help me hang in until I reach my goal. I agree that it's been slim pickins for those over 16 and under 50. And BTW, can somebody tell Hollister and Abercrombie to lay off the cologne? I don't shop there, but all you have to do is pass by the storefront and you're practically asphyxiated!

Re: shopping for the Road Trippers...KOP is HUGE - I was just there yesterday. It's a 45 minute ride from Deptford, where the hotels are. This is for some serious, hard-core shopping: http://www.kingofprussiamall.com/

Cherry Hill Mall, as Laura mentioned, is also a good pick ~ it's about 15 minutes from the hotels. They are also working on expanding even more: http://www.cherryhillmall.com/

And then there's the Deptford Mall, which is right around the corner from the Fairfield & Residence Inn. http://www.deptfordmall.com/ This entire area is surrounded by shopping centers and restaurants, some of which include: Outback, Bonefish Grill, Don Pablo's, Applebee's, Pizza Hut, Pizzeria Uno, Chili's, Red Lobster, etc. There's an excellent Italian restaurant just around the corner from the hotels/mall ~ Filomena. Love the Filet Gorgonzola, mmm!

Some high-end shops can also be found at the Promenade in Marlton, about 20 minutes away: http://www.thepromenadenj.com/

Edited to fix a typo :)
