The irony

Ok, I will apologize up front if this offends some folks. Maybe I'm PMSing or something. I'm reading more and more about some who find the 1RM concept to be way too much, many who just aren't ready for something of this magnitude, the prep work that goes into it, the use of the computer, etc.

And I just have to say... A YEAR. It took a year for SNM to get this thing planned, filmed, produced, music-sync'd, packaged, and shipped. And every step of the way we knew it was going to be based on the concept of a 1RM - and they told us how to do that. Even told us the WM would be up and running - with maybe a few kinks here and there - to help us. They gave us production updates and estimates, blog entries, You-Tube glimpses and "what to expect" indications. They told us there would be a user guide and a rotation that had every step of weights and cardio included. Still, there were many who grew ever so impatient, demanding that a year is way too long, we don't like how you do business, this is wrong.

And now -- here is this beautiful package! Easier than I ever could have imagined. I took the tests, just like they told me to somewhere long ago. I plugged those numbers into my computer - on the WM as they told me to. All I have to do is print out that card, put it on my clipboard, preview a DVD here and there if I want, and lift the weights.

Truly I am sorry if I am making light of it, but I just don't understand how anyone can find this burdensome when we have known all along what it would be. I just have to say to SNM -- THANK YOU for holding our hand every step of the way and letting us know exactly what was coming our way. And for delivering. My only job now re: STS is to do it for the next 3 months as it's laid out for me.

Again, I am sorry if this offends anyone, but the irony is amazing.

Did I miss the clause where SNM states you absolutely must follow the program as designed?
Will the world come to an end if we deviate from the program?

I had a fantastic workout this morning and my dvd did not self destruct because I didn't perform the 1rm tests:D
The great thing about owning the workouts, we can do them over and over and over again!!

It's a new Cathe workout! It's going to kick butt no matter how you do the math!

I've known all along about the 1rm and I've also known all along that I wasn't going to do them and just start a heavy weight and up it in increments each week, just as I did with P90x, gym styles, etc. I do love the program and the concept of a new workout each week makes me feel like I have Cathe as a personal trainer. I would only wish each week of a mesocycle would have been put on 1 dual layer dvd so that there would be 4 dvds per mesocycle rather than 12. I have 5 dogs and an active 4 year old and am always decluttering so the less clutter the better. Either way though, I'm happy I bought it and waited. I am still very sore from doing disc 3 legs on Saturday. Today I started the official rotation and used the same weights I did for GymStyles and my arms and chest feel like toast. :)

Guys,

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Although we may love STS..others may not find it as enjoyable..and that is ok. I will agree that when I started my 1R'ms yesterday that I realized how much time it would take to pull them altogether but I really do not have a problem with that. Some people do just want to start their workout and go with it and not have to worry about any prep work. Everyone that posts here should have a right to post theirr honest opinions about any SNM product. Although I will say I do like STS, the WM and the Nutrition Manager.

No ones opinion should make anyone else "upset" because it is just that....their opinion.

When Cathe first announced STS, I did the happy dance :D. This is the home based system that I’ve wanted someone to make (preferably Cathe) for years. I understood the whole concept of periodization and the 1 RM and was already using it to some extent. I felt that SNM did a wonderful job answering questions and updating their site with information. It was (and at times is still hard) for me to understand why people are making it so difficult. However, I do believe that many people are truly confused and overwhelmed because this is a new way of training for them. This type of training takes commitment, but the end results are so much better. Programs that work save me money and that is an added bonus. In recent years, Cathe has attracted a lot of new customers and her base has a wider range of exercise knowledge and experience in fitness than in the past.

I think it is good to remember that STS was a big project for Cathe. I’m sure she hit some bumps along the way and learned a lot. The same is probably true for some of Cathe’s customers. There is a lot to take in and understand. Add to that the computer angle and it gets to be overwhelming for some . Not everyone is computer literate. Even the techno geeks are still working hard on debugging things. When a person is already on over load the little things like a computer glitch can mess them up because they don’t know it’s a computer glitch. They may think that it is something else that they are messing up.

I think the best thing we can do is to be patient and help each other. Remember to communicate in a civil manner. If we are upset , frustrated , or hormonally imbalanced  than maybe we should take a little time before posting. If we find a glitch in the system, report it to SNM and be specific. If we don’t understand something, ask. Again, it is not what you say (or ask) it is how you say it. Another thing to consider is that we are all from different backgrounds and have different mannerisms. Also, I think it is important to remember that not everyone visits CatheNation on a regular basis (say it ain't so :p) and some people visit frequently but they don’t have a lot of time to read every thread. So for those people who do spend a lot of time here and have a better understanding of fitness & computers, maybe they/we can go the extra mile and help out or just leave it to SNM. And, if you are tired of the same questions don’t read or respond to them. It easy to do a search for answers, but some people like the interaction and it is their way of starting up a conversation. But, it is also considerate to read the FAQ info that is posted since someone went to the trouble of posting it.

I didn’t mean my post for any one person; I just thought it was something to think about.

Fail to see the "Irony"

I really don't see any "irony" involved in voicing a reluctance to have to deal with 1 RM's, Tutorials, Workout Managers, etc,

No need to get hostile about it.

I'm sorry - the irony I see is certainly not in anyone's reluctance to deal with these tests. Heavens no. Some folks certainly will not like this way of training -- hat's off to them for knowing what they like and don't like.

I find it ironic that at many stages of this process there were so many voicing displeasure with the length of time it took to make this series. SNM often times had to explain again what was going into this program and why it was taking such a long time. And NOW, after a year's worth of waiting, NOW there are some who are saying "it caught me off guard." And "I didn't know all that was involved in finding my 1RM."

I am not at all saying everyone who ordered this has to like it, or do it as suggested. My word - we all work out as suits us best. But certainly no one can claim that in the course of the year's wait, SNM didn't provide us with every bit of information that we needed to be prepared for it when it came. I'm sorry if I've offended anyone - I'll take what I find to be ironinc and carry it back. Have a great day all - and enjoy your workout.

Lorrie~ You always make my day! :D
*clinks teacup* to the wisdom of hormones!

Too funny!

As I was finishing my testing this week-end with my husbands help, several times I told him I wished I'd known about this testing earlier so I could have worked on it the past year! HAH. I really made fun of myself for waiting until the last minute.

I just have to enter a few more results, and I am ready to go!

FWIW, I agree. I got what you were trying to say with the original post...
