Thanksgiving calories - what's your plan of attack?

So you all were so very helpful w/my Thanksgiving manners thread :D:D I was curious how everyone handles the loading of the plate???
Do you prepare ahead by being "really good" the days before - "really good" the days afterwards. Cook healthy, controllably taste a bit of everything & enjoy w/o going hog wild or totally dig in?

For me I will be very aware of my food choices in the days beforehand, no nibbling & tastefully eat of bit of everything I like. Lots of self control yet also enjoying it at the same time.....posible you may ask? Absolutely. :p

I did get a devotional book to help me thru the holidays that I may be grabbing in desperate times ;)

My plan of attack is to delude myself into believing there are no calories on Thanksgiving! :) It's the one time a year that I get to eat some of this stuff so heck if I am limiting myself!

I have no self control during the holiday's. I will be eating very well up to that point. I will usually lose 5 lbs right before the holiday's and gain it back during. You know one step forward two step back.
I am using the Lose It application on my Itouch and it's been going well. Who thought entering in exercise I could eat more and still lose, lol. Perhaps, I will do Body Max 2 in the morning of the day of the big gathering and that should gain me around 1200 calories for supper, that should be enough right? ;)

I plan to use the Scarlett O'Hara method: Eat as much of whatever I want and think about it tomorrow.

I'm joining my kettlebell check-in chickies for a Thanksgiving Day "Murph" challenge:

"Murph"
1 mile run
100 pull ups (jumping for me)
200 push ups
300 air squats
1 mile run

Afterward, I intend to eat with reckless abandon and not worry about it. ;)

I try to eat as healthfully as I can the days before Thanksgiving. I also stick to my workout plan which sometimes means working out at 10PM & make sure to get up early the day-of and workout and eat a small protein-filled meal before we head out for the day so I'm not starving by the time dinner comes around.

There are a few things that I make sure to eat on turkey day, since I hardly ever get a chance to eat them any other time of year and include candied yams (my favorite!!!), apple pie, and my mom's stuffing. I take small portions of each without going crazy and eat them slowly, and I mean SLOWLY so I can enjoy without plowing through a plate and feeling unsatisfied. I also load up on veggies and shrimp cocktail during the appetizers so I can fill up on something before the big meal. Even though I love any kind of bread, I skip the dinner rolls to save calories since those aren't specifically for Thanksgiving.

I plan on doing Imax Extreme in the morning for a workout. Eat a normal breakfast and probably a light snack. Dinner isn't til 2 or later, and if I don't eat something btwn breakfast and then, I'll fall over.

Dinner at my DH's aunt's house, and they make a lot of gooped up, sauced up, buttered up casseroles that I really don't like. So I'll eat some turkey, maybe a scoop of plain mashed taters, I'm bringing steamed veggies, so I'll eat those. I'm also bringing Indian pudding (which I found on this board, and doesn't seem to be cal free). I will try to resist the before dinner snackies she puts out. His aunt always has a huge spread of homemade bread/rolls that are tastylicious. Those call my name loud and clear. Then we are off to my brothers for dessert, which is probably where the most damage will be done. I can't resist dessert and wine.

The biggest problem is the day after, which is Christmas tree day. We go out to eat that night, and then cuddle up with some Bailey's by the Xmas tree. Baileys is just a cupful o' calories, but it sure is yum! Running around decorating all day is a butter burner, though. And don't forget the next day is CCPP Saturday, so I think we'll all be alright in the end.

I figure since for the most part I eat very well, the holidays aren't a problem...Bump up the cardio (BLECH!!!!), and inhale the pies...

We travel home back to Ohio to visit our families, so there will be two Thanksgiving meals to enjoy. I plan to relax and have fun spending time with everyone... and certainly enjoy all of the delicious goodies. A group of us will begin the day running in a Turkey Trot, which is a great way to kick-start the appetite!

I save my carbs for what I really want: desert!!!! One small spoon of gravy, plenty of turkey, and salad. I don't do the crackers, cheese, pretzels, yams, rolls, bread, or green bean atrocities (eww.) I don't drink sweetened beverages, just clear seltzer water with lemon or decaf hot tea. I just stopped wanting to feel sick after. When I turned 30 I stopped hurting myself in many ways and this day is one of those when I can either hurt myself or not.

I do choose to have some chocolate torte and a small taste of pie.

Oh and I plan to run!!!!

For the most part, I enjoy myself at Thanksgiving. I eat clean 95% of the time so one meal once in a while is no biggee for my body. I always make healthy dishes to bring along so that I can eat alot and not have a barren plate, because that is just not kosher in my family. IN my family, your plate has to be sagging on both sides as you carry it to the table or it's not full enough.
I load up on veggies and I pick my healthy dish, plus two other things that I really want but rarely ever get to nosh on, like stuffing, and stuffed mushrooms that my sister makes. Then I eat slowly and enjoy each and every bite. Then I give myself about an hour and pick one thing off the desert table and have a slice of that - usually cheesecake. This year I am making my low carb cheesecake with an walnut crust! Yum! Guilt free and yummy!
I also plan to do a nice long bike ride with my hubby the morning of!

My tips for a healthy Thanksgiving:
Drink tons of water, so that keeps you fuller throughout the day.
Play with kids, take pictures, and help clean up or anything else that keeps your hands busy so you're not digging into the cheeseball too much.
Burn some calories beforehand to give you more leeway for more calories.
Take a quiet moment and envision how you want to feel after you eat & what your goals are and don't let one day sabotage you and make you throw caution to the wind. Enjoy yourself but don't go overboard.
Most of all, spend time hugging laughing and talking with precious family and friends, and be thankful, because after all that is what the day is about, not the food.
