Tattoo - OMG, I hate it

NY25

Cathlete
I'm so sick - I got my new tattoo, and while I love part of it, I hate the rest of it. It's much bigger than I was planning, so that may be part of the problem. Had it done in two parts; when I had the second part added I went in wanting one thing based on the artist's original recommendation, had a sketch and everything. Then the artist asked why I was chopping the sketch down, it would look good as a whole and created something a little different. I thought it looked too big, but rather than second-guessing him, I second-guessed myself and now I hate it!! People who have seen it all seem to actually really like it, but I feel just sick. They all say I'll get used to it and will come to love it, but I just don't know. (enter sobbing here) :-(

I'm so sorry. I wish I could say something that would make you feel better. I really hope you grow to love it.

I'm so sorry this happened. I know how excited you were about it after having gotten the initial work done. I truly hope you learn to love it!!!!!

I'm sorry to hear that.....you should LOVE your tattoos and make every single person you know look at it!! It's still healing now, I take it so there's nothing you can do at the moment. You may very well wake up some morning in the next day or two and fall madly in love with it. If you don't....maybe you should start visiting other artists and ask them for ideas for a redo/cover/change so that you CAN love it.

I thought my bad-hair-color-and-cut that I recently got from "Britany" (after my regular stylist moved to Florida) was bad, but hair grows back.

Hope to find some way to love your tat (either getting used to it, or getting it modified somehow. Can one have just part of a tatoo removed?).

I am so sorry to hear about your tattoo. That was always my fear before I got my tattoo also. Last month DM got permanent lipstick (tattooed) and HATES it. The worst part is she needs to go back next week to get the color evened out. Over the past month she has come to accept it and be at (relative) peace with it. I do think in time you will come to be at peace with your new tattoo.

Thanks. The upside (I hope) is that everyone else seems to really like it (or so they say) - particularly the parts I don't like. I may just be freaking out because I envisioned one thing, and ended up with something quite different. Maybe once the color tames down. And it's so much bigger than I was planning - it's close to 5" x 6". I'm even fine with the width - it's the height that got me crazed. I'd probably love it if I saw it on someone else.

Tattoos are tough! It sounds like you did everything right though by getting a sketch done first. I'm the same way about second-guessing myself! It really stinks.

Give it some time and yourself some time. Since it's not exactly what you were expecting, that may be making it appear worse than it is to you. Where on your body did you have it done? Is it someplace you could get a picture and post it here? Ahem, that is if it's in a "decent" place! I'd love to see it!

Aww. I'm sorry! I bet you're just shocked by it because you're not used to it. Is it your first? They do tame down after the swelling goes away. I got a small tattoo on my back several years ago, and it looked totally different/better a couple of days post-tat. It was just black ink, so I'm not sure how color changes, but I'm sure it will mellow and you'll grow to love it!

I agree with the post above - post a picture so we can put your mind at ease! I'm sure we'll love it. Plus I'm totally intrigued!!

Gosh darn - I really need to learn facebook. I thought if I clicked on the "like" button on your post, I would see a picture so that is my "1" vote for like. I just don't spend much time on it so I don't know the ins and outs.

Sorry that you are not liking your tattoo. I have wanted to try the Retasis (spelling) for eyelashes but that comes with a warning of doing weird things around the eyes so I haven't.

Hi

I totally agree with the others and please post a picture. I bet it is great. When I got mine done I went in with a picture that I wanted and some ideas for flowers. The artist did a little bit different of a butterfly than I was expecting but the flowers were great. She put in dots all at the bottom which I was "NOT" expecting. I wan't sure at first how I felt but then I fell in love.

The tattoo that I recently got is not what I had originally planned on either. I liked the artist's idea on paper though so even though I was a little nervous about changing it (what I have is larger and fuller then what I originally wanted), I went with it and despite my initial misgivings about it's size, etc., I adore it! Give it time! Hopefully you just need to get comfortable with it's size and then you will fall in love too! :)

I so hope you're all right. I'm not sure how to post a picture of it. I'll see if I can post it from my iphone later. It's on my lower back. I've written myself an email to send to the artist, which I may or may not do later. Hoping that would make me feel better, but I doubt it. At this point I'm just hoping to be able to stop crying some day. On the plus side, still barely eating, so maybe I'll lose a few pounds.

Oh, this is actually my fifth tattoo, and this is the first time I've ever freaked out - I really believe it's the tattoo. I can still visualize what it should have looked like and I know that would have been better (and perfect).
