STS DEAL OF THE DAY!!!!!

Natasha, I just went to Nia's website and am in the process of reading about being a Beautiful Badass! Thanks for the link...it looks very interesting...I've signed up for her emails ;)

HOPPY EASTER!!!
I assume that you ladies have been busy getting prepared for the Easter Bunny to visit your little ones! I hope you haven't been raiding their baskets!!!!;)
Today I finished up the STS module with Lower Body Blast (all sections!). I subbed low impact stuff for the blasts and kicked my butt! I forgot how challenging that workout is! I also added on 100 rep challenges for bis and tris. Tomorrow I start the Xtrain Module again with Chest, Back, and Shoulders.

I finally pre-ordered Cathe's new workouts. Got the 7 DVD bundle. Yes, including Pedal Power. I also ordered Ride. There. I can't turn back now. We HAVE to get a spin bike now :p! It takes me a very long time to make what I consider "big purchases". I research the bajeebers out of them . It might be a while before I actually am spinning away....but it will happen!

I took Friday and tomorrow off for a little mini-vacation and hope to get a little "me" time in. I will definitely take advantage of the 74 degrees they are promising me!

Hope you both are having a great weekend!!!

Hope you ladies had a great Easter :)

It was a very busy w/e for us. On Sat we went to the in-laws in Hamilton (near Niagara Falls) and yesterday we had lunch at my aunts house. And no Nancy, I did not raid Bella's chocolate ;). I love chocolate of course, but for some reason I don't particularly like the Easter chocolate (crap). I would much rather indulge in a tasty, high-quality kind :p.

Really excited to tell you guys I'm getting Body Beast! I was looking at clips on youtube and proceeded to "show" DH ;). He was interested in what he saw, and thought he could apply some of the training concepts at the gym. I love that the w/o's are only 30-40min! The trainer, Sagi, is super  . I think as soon as I receive it, I will adhere to the rotation posted. This will allow me to throw in 1-2 Cathe cardio (although minimal cardio/hiit is recommended). I know my results depends on eating "clean", so I will definitely try my hardest. A lot of protein is emphasized, so I might have to get used to eating chicken & veggies as a mid-day snack :p.

My workouts that I did not report last week were:
Friday: JM's Shed & Shred (L1 & 2)
Sunday: Tabatacise (my own WO Blender premix - 30min)
Today will be: 4DS bi's & Tri's + 4DS Legs

Nancy
LOL I pre-ordered yesterday too . Talk about last minute :D.
Hope you had a nice, relaxing, mini-vacation. "Me" time is definitely the best time :).
Glad you liked Nia's website! Isn't she super inspiring and motivating? Her blog article about the mom find her child's "diet" grocery list really touched me. I hope to never, EVER find something like that in Bella's drawer. I want to be a mother that Bella looks up to -- the way Nia looked up to hers.
Congrats on finishing the STS module! You rock .

Justina
Hope you had a great Easter with the family :).
So I AM getting a Beach Body program after all ;). I don't think it will come close to XT or STS, but I'm gonna give it a go. Variety is good :D.

Have a great day ladies!

Hi ladies!
Hope you all had a great Easter weekend.
Friday I worked for a little while eventhough we were off. Saturday we went grocery shopping and at night I watched some movies with the kids. Sunday we went to my in law's for Easter dinner. That was my cheat meal. I usually have my mother in law's home made iced tea, but yesterday I had few sips and started to feel weird. Maybe it was the sugar. My throat started to feel closing up. I had to dump it out and had bottled water instead. I've been eating clean so I guess that was my reaction to super-sweet foods. Yes, I did have a piece of pie too. :D

Last night's workout was GS Back and Biceps. I'm feeling it this morning. I used my new heavy dumbbells. :)

Natasha, so happy you are getting Body Beast. You have to tell me how it works out. My current budget doesn't allow me to buy any new series. This horrible car situation was a financial disaster. Paying for a car I don't even own. Anyway, I'll have to wait a little while. :(

Nancy,
Hope you enjoyed your mini-vacation. What did you do? Or just relaxed? :)

Today I'm back to my normal eating habits and writing everything down!

Have a great day ladies!

Justina

Oh the woes of that first day back to work after a 4 day weekend!
I had a lot of work to keep me busy yesterday! I got home from work late because of errands and ended up doing AOHiiT+Core 1 and BS Tris at 7pm! I didn't eat until after 8pm so I kept it light: a protein drink (made with water) and some oatmeal with raisins and walnuts in it. YUMMY!!!! I felt very light this morning so I weighed and measured myself. I lost the 2 pounds I had gained back the week before and I lost 1 inch off my waist, 1 inch off my hips, (unfortunately I also lost an inch off my chest ), but somehow gained 1/4 inch on my thighs . Overall, I am VERY pleased with my progress so far! I measured myself about 3 weeks ago so I'm happy with those lost inches! I'm going to continue monitoring my daily food intake since that is the only thing I changed...I am still working out everyday alternating weights and cardio as I have for many years. Hmmmm, a spin bike would really mix things up nicely, wouldn't it?;)

Hello my awesome check-in gals

Looks like it will be nice out today! Thank goodness! I'm utilizing the weather by going to the park w/Bella .

My w/o yesterday was a 3 Mile Leslie walk. On Tues I took a rest day, and Mon was S&H Bi's & Tri's (I wrote that I was going to do 4DS, but I changed that :p). You gals have to invest in S&H one day! I have to say that's it's probably my most fav way to train heavy . The funny thing you don't really end up going that heavy. Because momentum is non-existent, and the count is so slow, you typically have to use lighter #'s than you would normally. People have complained that it is boring and you really have to concentrate, but I LOVE this concept! TWO BIGGIE THUMBS-UP from this chica .

Justina
I'm so sorry about the car situation :(. When we got into that car accident about 2 years ago, our car was all paid for. And then we ended up having to get another one  so there goes the monthly car payments again . Mind you, we got some $$ from the insurance company for the car that got smashed, but of course we still had to dish-out our own money to get a decent new car. Cars are a necessity, but beyond frustrating sometimes. Too bad we don't live in the horse/buggy days :D.
Glad you had a nice Easter :). I rarely drink sweetened beverages. Once in a while I like to have a nice root beer or Dr.Pepper, but I get to 1/2 can and then try to pawn it off . My stomach starts to protest .
Congrats on using the new heavies!

Nancy
Congrats on the lbs and inches lost! LOL on the losing inches of your chest -- isn't that always the case! I have lost 1 cup size since becoming more fit . I'm down to a hefty A size now ;).
When Bella goes to bed, sometimes I have no choice but to do my w/o's around 8pm :(. I find it's so much harder! No way I can bring myself to do intense cardio at that time. I have made that mistake and felt like I was going to hurl .
I think a spin bike is totally in your future . Changing your routine is a very good thing. I'm actually going to venture out of my comfort zone with Body Beast . I want the challenge and I'm excited to see what results I obtain .

Have a rockin' day ladies

Hi fit ladies!!
It's yucky, rainy day here today. Tuesday night I did GS Legs, last night I took a night off to study. I couldn't focus much because I was so tired. :(

Nancy,
Congrats on the progress you've made so far!! That's impressive. Yep, knew you could do it. :D Isn't it a great feeling to see your hard work paying off? So happy for you!
When I lose inche off my chest I'll have to make up by having a knock-out bum. :D So I might have to look into buying B&G next.

Natasha,
I feel like every time I pay off a car something happens and I'll have to buy another. I only went without a car note once in my life and it did not last. We got into an accident and totaled it. I have never been in this situation I have now though. It sickens me but nothing I can do. I just have to pay what I owe and move on. By the way I'm still going to look into getting S&H. What kind of results are you getting? Are you getting size? That's what I want; size. I want bigger arms with defined muscles. Have you started Body Beast yet?

I have always worked out in the evening. I've been doing it for the past 10 years. I usually work out between 8:30 to 9 pm. If I do plyo type of cardio, then I wait about 90 minutes after dinner. For lifting I wait 60 minutes. Some people work out early in the morning. I can't do it because I already wake up early enough; 4:45 am. :)

Have a good weekend ladies! Tomorrow I'm taking a day off so I can have a girls day out with a girlfriend. I haven't done that in years!

Chat with you later!

Justina:D

Where did Spring go?
We went from beautiful warm weather to cold and rainy again!...but this weekend it's supposed to be 68 on Saturday and 74 on Sunday!!!! I guess if you don't like the weather you can wait a day because it will be totally different!

Anyway, sounds like you are both working out really hard! I love when you get into a groove, don't you? Last night was Xtrain Legs (Standing, Barre, and Ball/Chair) w/ Rear Delts. Those shin shaving jobbers really KILL!!!!! I'm so glad when they're over :p! Tonight is Xtrain Bis& Tris with Core 1. I really am learning to love Core 1!

Yesterday "Ride" arrived in the mail. I'm going to preview it during my lunch today. Cathe looks very sweaty on the cover....so does Jai....uh-oh!

Body Beast sounds formidable. Just the name scares me! I'll have to look it up and see what Natasha is doing to herself! Are you looking to gain size in the upper body (like Justina)? I don't think my body type allows for a lot of muscle building, but I certainly am trying to get more defined and strong! I love the long lean sinewy look that dancers have but my lower body just doesn't seem to get it! Maybe I should do Turbo Barre more often :D???

I have kind of been experimenting with fats a little bit. I have replaced my Smart Spread with organic butter. And I'm using extra virgin coconut oil to cook popcorn in instead of my Smart Balance oil. And I'm eating pasture raised beef about once every 10 days (I have been "off" mammals for about 12 years but had some buffalo on vacation last year and LOVED IT!). I'm a little nervous about re-introducing saturated fat into my diet, but I think it does have some benefits. I'm thinking that as long as I go organic/free range/pasture raised I will be avoiding some of the things that give these foods a bad rap. What do you guys think?

Nancy & Justina
My main goal with Body Beast is to gain overall muscle. If I get nice looking guns in the process, then so be it . I also want to be able to get STRONG and knock-out a handful of unassisted pull-ups . There are 2 rotations: "lean" (build muscle, reduce body fat) "beast" (gain muscle mass). I'm doing the "lean" version but I think the "beast" version really has *mostly* to do with upping your caloric levels extremely high. Even while training heavy, I still have a hard time building the little muscle that I DO have. I think my body just needs a little shock ;).

Nancy
I have never avoided the outer portion of the grocery store: all types of meats/produce/dairy/breads. I have butter in my fridge and it has always been a staple in my home. I don't use it daily, but every so often I crave a little butter w/jam on toast (a childhood fav of mine :p). As far as ground beef, that is also a staple in my freezer. I love to make homemade burgers stuffed with havarti cheese :p. So as you can see I'm not afraid of a little saturated fat ;). My great-grandmother lived until 99yrs old, and she was probably one of the healthiest women I have ever met. I'll never forget her. Being very old school Italian, she ate a variety of foods including wine, and made her own decadent desserts with good ol' fashioned white sugar & flour. BUT she always emphasized physical activity. That woman never stopped moving! She was working her garden up until the very end! Admiring her greatly, I always try to echo her lifestyle :).

Justina
Thanks for the tip on exercising later on in the evening. I think the timing of when you eat is very important, so I will take that into consideration. Thank you :).
Have fun on your girls day out! You deserve that more than anyone!

Oh ya, my workouts :p. Yesterday I was out and about with Bella for a solid 2hrs.

Have a fabulous day ladies!

Hello to my fabulous Check-in gals :)

Guess who got Body Beast in the mail?! So my official rotation starts Monday, but I could not resist doing Build Legs from Body Beast already . That was my w/o on Thursday and let me tell ya, I have not felt this severe LB DOMS in a very long time! Anyone have crutches they wanna lend me?

Yesterday's w/o was XT Back/Shoulder's + STS TB compound back add-on (total time 45min). I was supposed to do XT Chest/Back/Shoulder's, but Monday's w/o will be Build Chest & Tri's, so I bi-passed chest so I would not be DOMS'ing or fatigued. So far I have previewed all the discs and I'm really pleased with the program. I'm a toughie critic when it comes to weight-work (Cathe has me pretty damn spoiled) so for me to be impressed is sayin' something.

I'm going to my grandmother's 81st b-day party today .

Hope you both had a wonderful w/e!

Natasha, I just looked at the Body Beast site and I must say that I am humbled ! It looks quite daunting...but I KNOW you have the drive and determination to get through it!!!! You are my hero :D! I'll be thinking of you as I trudge through one of my LIS/Pyramid modules this week: if I falter one little bit I'll remind myself of the Herculean task you are undergoing and push myself onward !

This weekend we enjoyed BEEYOOTEEFUL weather and it looks like we'll have temps in the high 70s (and even 81 on Wednesday!) this week. Nice. I hope my foot can handle all the walking I want to do! The low impact workouts were just the ticket for healing (or heeling? :p), but walking is SO AGGRAVATING!!! Really hurts and has me limping for the rest of the day :(. I refuse to give up, though! I want to do a 30 minute walk after dinner every night that I can. I'm sticking to my eating plan pretty well; however, I did allow myself popcorn and vodka in seltzer water on Saturday night ;). I LOVE popcorn cooked in coconut oil! It is so yummy!

Justina, how was your weekend???? How are the workouts coming along? How are those reduced rations affecting you?

Tonight I'll be doing Total Body Trisets Upper Body Split and the after dinner walk. Natasha will be torching her chest & tris :D....what about Justina?

Hi Natasha, Nancy,
Last night was Pyramid Upperbody. My haviest dumbbells were too heavy. :D I had trouble finishing the last set. Made a note of that so the next time I will be sure to lower the weight. Tonight I will do cardio; Turbo Fire.

The weather here has been great. Yeserday I took Jackson to the park and was out there for an hour or so. This whole week will be beautiful. :D

Natasha,
Body Beast definitely sounds like a challenge and I'm sure you will have a lot of fun with it! I want upperbody muscles like Jai's in Pyramid! :D I don't know if my body is built to have muscles like that. Maybe not, but I'm going to try!
Have you started the Body Beast DVDs? What do you think and how do you feel?

Nancy,
I'm still watching what I eat; though not so much on the weekends.
I do see results (slimmer middle) but I still have some more work to do. :) All the extras are on my tummy area. Your 30 min. walk daily sounds great! After dinner I give my son a bath, and I get ready for my work out. I do wait about an hour or so before I start; in this time I would study for my exam or make my lunch for the next day. Maybe I should do some walking after lunch while I'm at work? :)

By the way, I have a fruit bowl on my desk at work now. No more chips to snack on! :D I feel like I am eating better and on my way to be a healthier me!

Have a good day ladies. You two are an inspiration to me. :)

Justina

Hello gals :)

Yesterday was my grandmother`s 80th b-day party (I put 81st but that was wrong ). I have attached a pic of Bella with her cousin. Hope you all enjoy it!

Today workout was BB Build Chest & Tri`s. Holy $/%& was it ever awesome . I literally finished the workout and could already feel DOMS! My chest and tri`s were scrreeeaaamming by the end . Nothing fancy here, just good ol`hard school gym style exercises with drop-sets, giant-sets, super-sets. Just enough push-ups to challenge you but not kill you (ahem- STS M1). This program is impressing me already, and I have only done 2 discs so far. I felt like a total bad-a** today . I love the way weights makes me feel so strong, confident, empowered, powerful. It is truly an amazing feeling. Body Beast ROCKS!

Nancy
Body Beast reminds me of STS in a lot of ways...perhaps that's why I like it so much. The "preview" is of course, putting a dramatic spin on the program. It is very tough, but nothing any fellow Cathlete could not handle. I'm hoping the old school exercises will build my tricep and bicep strength. I really need to focus on those area's! It's very rare that my tri's feel totally spent by the end of any workout. I always feel like I need "more", and this workout gave me just that. I love the way the exercises are sequenced: drop-sets and super-sets are my fav! And now I have GIANT-SETS too .
I'm sorry to hear about your foot :(:(:(. Have you ever looked into custom orthopedics? I see a thread over in OD about it. I wish I could be more help to you :(.
Can you believe I am also air-popping popcorn in coconut oil these days? And I'm also a fan of vodka & tonic . YUM :p.

Justina
You are such a sweetie with your kind words :). You both are also very inspiring and motivating :).
I had a really hard time increasing my weight #'s for PUB. That workout is probably one of the toughest UB Cathe has ever made!
I know it's common for people to say "I want legs like Cathe, arms like Jai, abs like Amanda". I know I will never have a body like theirs. My plan is to be the best ME I can be, and focus on that. I think if you want nice UB muscle definition, you can obtain it! Don't give up :).

Have a great day ladies

Hi Nancy, Natasha,

Last night was XTrain Legs. My energy was high and I really pushed myself. :D (petting myself on the back).

Natasha,
I visited the Body Beast website and several others to learn about Body Beast. I think you made an awesome choice to go with that. I will have to think about it getting it soon too. So glad you are having fun with it and feeling DOMS so quickly. I love STS so I know I will like this series too. I'm a fan of old school lifting; nothing fancy. How long is the work out? Did you get the Base package? You'll have to report your results with this one! :D

Nancy,
Hope your foot is feeling a bit better today. I actually took a short walk after lunch yesterday. I have never done it before. The weather was nice and I really enjoyed being in the sun in the middle of a work day. :)

By the way Natasha, the picture of Bella and her cousin is so sweet. I was close to my cousins growing up. I have 6 of them. :)

Have a good day!

Justina

Happy Sunshine Day Ladies!
Everyone around me seems to be rejuvenated by our lovely weather! I am definitely going to get outside a little bit later this morning to get a little vitamin D :p! I didn't go for my walk last night after dinner because I got home later than usual and by the the time I finished my workout, got showered, made/ate dinner, it was 8:30pm! I was tired! I increased weights on a few things last night and it nearly took me out! Tonight will be All Out Hiit + Core 1. AND I WILL GO FOR MY WALK after dinner!!!

Natasha, your little Bella has the sweetest little face! I think it's great that she has cousins to hang with at the family gatherings. I was close to one of my older cousin's daughter who was my age. We sure laughed a lot! They moved out of our area and we lost touch with each other when we were around 10 years old.
Sounds like you triggered your muscle fibers pretty dang good last night! I get that "instant" DOMS from Gym Styles Chest & Tris. I just quiver like crazy! I LOVE THAT! I've decided that I MUST try harder to increase my weights. Even if I can't complete all the reps I think I have to stress my muscles a bit more or they just won't get any stronger (or bigger!). Last night was tough for me, but today I have some nice DOMS in my tris and that shows me that I'm on the right track. I also want to get back to doing more than just a few pushups on my toes and start training to do pull ups. Lots of goals...lots of good intentions...now to ACT ON IT ;)! You've inspired me!

Justina, glad you got outside yesterday! Do you think this is something you'd want to do everyday? It will probably be a little tough to do once summer really sets in down there. That's why I try to just get out for about 15 minutes around 10:30am while I'm at work. It's just too dang hot here after that! I wear a lot of sunscreen so unfortunately I'm not getting the all the vitamin D that I can, but it makes my soul happy! We have a few local farmer's markets that set up within walking distance a few times a week, so it makes for a nice little outing! Do you have anything like that near where you work?

All right, that's all I've got for now! Hope you both have a stellar day!!!

It's "My Entire Body Is DOMS'ing BAD" day :D

Tues w/o was supposed to be BB Build Legs, but I was still so friggin' sore! I chose to do cardio instead: CTX Step Intervals (30min).

Yesterday's w/o was BB Build Back & Bi's + STS Extended stretch. Oh good lordy YES! I got to use my TT for the pull/chin-ups, so I'm really happy about that :D. I have been PM'ing fit44 back and forth about Body Beast (she has done the program and got excellent results) and she says that BB leg w/o's are the same intensity as Cathe's! I would have to agree with her on that. She describes the entire program very similar STS M2. Another thing I love about this program is that like M2, you don't alternate muscle groups. When you work chest, you do all your chest exercises, and then move on to the next muscle group. Personally, I am not a fan of alternating, so I am very pleased the program is designed this way.

I have been eating as clean as I possibly can these past few days (ie-egg white omelet with veggies, protein w/veggies, greek yogurt w/fruit, homemade protein muffins). I can see a definite change in my stomach -- a lot less bloated. I also feel less water retention, overall. I'm eating a lot of food with this program, but I don't feel stuffed, just very satisfied. With heavy weight training, you DO get hungrier, but you are required to fuel your body with the right choices of food for optimal muscle growth. I am thinking of getting a particular type of protein powder called Casein. Have you guys ever heard of it? It is a slow digesting protein (whey is fast digesting) that is to be taken before bed. I was reading a lot about it on Body Building.com. I don't take that much protein powder anyway, but I would like to see if it helps with muscle growth/recovery at night, since that is the most crucial time.

Nancy
We got a bout of nice weather, but of course, it got crappy again . Here in Ontario, we really only have 2 season's: winter/summer. Fall and spring are slowing becoming non-existent :(.
Congrats on increasing the weights! Speaking of walking, did you read the article in this weeks newsletter about steps taken? It mentions the Amish community in Southern Ontario. For one, all the woman don't have office jobs. Their main priority is to have children and take care of them and the household. They rarely drive, so of course their steps are increased! The article never mentions that they make all their food from scratch. Everything! I have witnessed their community and it is very humbling how they live.
Thank you for the compliment on Bella :).

Justina
Congrats on hauling butt with XT Legs! It's funny how on some days we feel so strong.
The w/o vary from 30min-50min. But don't be fooled -- Sagi packs a powerful punch in that time frame. I only got the base package because I'm a bit afraid of supplements. I don't think there is anything wrong with them, I just don't know how my body will react. Sagi did mention the women should take the Suma Supplement. I'm not sure if I will order it or not .
Thanks you for the compliment on Bella :).

Sorry for the long post . I cut and paste from my other check-in ;)

Happy Sunday Nancy & Justina :)

I hope you both are doing well. I have not posted because I was waiting for you guys to post so I could write personals :).

I've been plugging away at Body Beast this week. I'm really committed to doing this rotation, putting forth my heart and soul into this program. So no cheating, veering away, and picking another w/o. And plus, I'm having so much fun! In the words of Sagi "time to BEAST UP!" :D ;).

These were my w/o's this past week (oh shoot, I can't remember the exact days I did them ):

-Leslie 4 mile walk/jog (I did this on my rest day)
-Leslie 2 mile walk + BB Shoulder's
-BB Cardio + BB Abs (40min total)

BTW, have you guys ever seen any of the youtube vids with the Beach Body instructors? Below are links to ones with Shaun-T, Tony Horton, Sagi:

Beachbody Live w/Shaun T from Hip Hop Abs, Insanity, Asylum and Rockin' Body - YouTube
Beachbody LIVE! w/Tony Horton - YouTube
Beachbody Live wtih Body Beast Trainer - Sagi Kalev - YouTube

I've watched them all this week (instead of watching tv in the evenings) and I have been so motivated and inspired by these interviews! They seem like a great group of guys.

Hope you both have a lovely Sunday :)

Happy Sunday Natasha & Justina!
Our little check in seemed lonely, so I thought I'd get one out to you guys!
Today is my rest day :D...I REALLY need it! I pushed myself hard the last 6 days with a Pyramid/LIS week that also had STS Total Body in there! Yesterday I did Afterburn and I did burn after :p! We finally finished up our taxes yesterday , so today will truly be a day of relaxing with a nice walk in the quiet neighborhoods (I think we're the only ones in the south that don't go to church!).

I want to get a small raised garden bed for outside my apartment to try and grow a tomato plant and green peppers, too. They recently cut down ALL the big 50 year old oaks in our complex (broke my heart! :( ), so I thought I'd take advantage of the sun...we've always been engulfed in shade but that's all over now. So, I'll probably head over to our local garden shop this afternoon and see what they've got.

Well, that's all I've got for now!
Natasha, has The Beast eaten you alive ;)?
Justina, what are you up to?
