STS Advice...

Worknprogress

Cathlete
I posted this in the Open Discussion Forum as well because I don't know if people are still checking this forum if they have completed STS.

I am getting ready to start the program after I do all of the 1 RPM's. My question is this....what advice can you pass along to me now that you have completed the program that you wish you knew ahead of time?

Any thoughts, tricks, advice, etc. would be appreciated! Thanks!

My advice

1) Use the weights suggested as a guideline and adjust accordingly. Don't be hard on yourself if you cant do the weight. On the other hand, if it's too easy, push yourself a little more.

2) When I am done, I put it in the workout manager calendar and fill in the actual weights used and the reps done and then print and save it. (Of course, I am doing the STS for the second time so I really wanted to get my weights up to date for the .....next time I do it!

3) Each mesocycle is so different. Meso 1 endurance really puts you to the test - push-ups, pull-ups, etc. I'm on Meso 2 and those pushups arent anywhere to be found:eek:

Have fun - good luck!

In addition to the above suggestions I would add that previewing the disks before its helpful. I am doing my second roation now and I still preview the disk the night before. This way you know what to excpect and can see the proper form on the excerises. Yes, it takes time, but I find it very helpful. Good luck with your rotation!

IMO, you will need a weight bench or Tower for the barbell chest work in Mesos 2 and 3, otherwise you are risking injury with the heavier weights. My DH was my spotter, but I felt bad asking him to get up earlier to help me out. I'll be getting my Tower soon and then will start STS again.

I've doing STS for the second time this year. (I'll be starting Meso 3 on Monday.)

One thing that I found very helpful was to buy plate mates and pace weights. These are the incremental weights that you add when you can't jump up a full increment. They're available in different weights and make it easy to fine-tune your weights.

I also use wrist weights quite a bit for the same reason. (I have rubber-coated dumbbells and can't attach anything magnetic to them.) I have a 1-lb and 2-lb (each) pair and use them frequently.

I also found it helpful to set up my equipment the night before (I work out at 5:30 a.m.) because it made my workout go more smoothly, and saved me time in the morning.

I have enjoyed STS and have seen very good results (combined with a much cleaner diet). However, I'm looking forward to getting back to some of my other Cathe workouts that I've been missing since I started STS.

Hope this helps.
