Step Help for Uncoordinted Buffoons

Is there a Cathe video that explains all the step moves? I'm one of those awkward people who doesn't instinctively know my left from my right and I can't seem to remember all the complex combinations quick enough. Most of the step videos I have seen seem to just jump right in.:p

Coem on, Smarty, repeat after me, "I am a thouroughbred, graceful, strong and fleet!" :) Try the Wedding Video or the Classics DVD. Some of the earlier stuff is simpler. And hang in there. Once you get it, it sticks and you'll be amazed you ever thought it was too tricky! :D

Hi, Barbara! Do you expect me to be able to remember the new workout when I cannot remember how to spell "Come"? LOL! Too late to edit it too! Oh, well. You are, of course, absolutely correct and that's a better choice, I think and a lovely way to master step before moving on.

Ah, maybe thre's hope for me. I just received my copy of the Basic Step DVD. I've also tried just watching some of the videos to get the fancy foot work. Maybe one day I will use the right foot when I am supposed to and jump to the left when cued. Yes indeedy, I will become graceful...or something like that. lol!:7

The important thing is working up a sweat. And maybe learning to quickly switch feet when those pesky critters can't keep themselves straight. My right foot wants to go first and most of the time, it does! :) As for becoming graceful, I pretty much content myself with fantasizing about that. And it's been my experience that clutz's are some of the most charming people in the world. And if you are going to trip into a room or knock something over, you might as well smile while you apologize your butt off!

You are on the right track. You've named yourself after one of the most gorgeous and graceful creature's on the planet. Be Smarty Jones in your own mind and if you occasionally trip over your own feet or fall off your step, pretend you meant to do that! LOL!

I agree on the wedding video. I am one of those "uncoordinated buffoons" too LOL, and I was totally intimidated by Cathe until I did the wedding tape. It was GREAT. You will sweat without dancing, twirling, or tripping. Very athletic movements. I am in the process of working my way up the Cathe chain. I would suggest starting with the wedding video, then trying Step Max, then Step Heat.

Good Luck!

mmis,

any idea how the wedding video compares to the new basic step DVD? Easier or harder to learn?

Queen of the Klutzes,
Nancy

I started with the Wedding Video and in my opinion, the Basic Step tape is easier that the Wedding Video.... I have all the Basics and they are good to learn by.... Cathe breaks down a few of her more complicated moves to low impact and really slows them down in the basic.... The Wedding Video is not as complicated step wise as her advanced step workouts, and is a great one to start with, but, the steps are not broken down as much as they are in the Basic... so, I would say... if you are completely new to stepping... try the Basic... which also has Body Fusion workout on it, which is a great way to get introduced to Cathe's Circuit style workouts.... and it has an upper body and lower body and ab workout on it as well... it's a good deal... The wedding video has a separate full body weight workout on it as well... but, I thought the Basic tape workouts were better.

and if it matters to you... the Wedding Video is older and looks dated to an extint...while the Basic was just released last month.

all that said... I started with the Wedding Video about six months ago and I love it... and still do it occasionally. I then bought the Basics last month and I do them much more.... I love them... especially Body Fusion and High Step Circuit Intermediate. (which is the 2nd Beginner DVD)

Hi Nancy,

I'm not sure how it compares, I've never done the wedding video...but I assure you, if I could do it, ANYONE could do it!

I am a complete and total klutz, and am working way my from the bottom up of Cathe's video previews page. I'm up to Step Fit wooohoo LOL!

I'm using the new Basic Step DVD. While still a bit clumsy I can handle the video. Oh yes, I'm on my way to being graceful. LOL! If only I were as gracefulas the real S.J.:7
