Step DVDs

Hi, I am new to Cathe's workouts. I am a cardio kickboxing instructor, but want to get back into some step aerobics (which I did ages ago). What are some opinions on Cathe's best step workouts, i.e. intensity etc.

Thanks!

I've been doing Cathe workouts now for about four months and my experience with Cathe step has been limited to her very most basic dvds: Basic Step, Low Impact Step and Body Fusion (all came in a step set bought at Target, all very basic, all no impact, none typical of what Cathe usually does), followed by LowMax (long, semi-complex choreography, very tough on the heart but easy on the joints), followed by IMAX 3 (which I've nicknamed OHMYGOD 3 for very good reason... complex and VERY high impact. This forum is loaded with comments about IT! Those are barely the tip of the iceberg but until I buy more (which IS in the plan) I can't tell you more from personal experience. However I believe this website offers descriptions, Cathe's paper catalog gives very specific descriptions, and CollageVideo.com is awesome for great customer reviews of many Cathe dvd's (Collage also break all the workouts down into choreography and impact levels - VERY helpful).

Not being a natural Cardio Queen I came to Cathe because she's legendary for her weight training dvds. They are AWESOME. I've never gotten the results I have with anything else I've tried. I strongly recommend them.

Hope I've helped. Anyone else?

I love Step Blast. Very fun and one of my favorites. Rhythmic Step is also pretty awesome. I love the changing rhythms. I don't even notice the time passing, I'm concentrating so much on what I do.

I started out with her Classics and just got hooked.

Hello,

It's been a long time since Cathe has done a step only workout of steady state cardio, I think the last one was Step Blast. If you are looking for that type of workout then try Classics with Power Hour, Step Fit and Step Works and also Rhythmic Step DVD, which include intensity stepping. Most of Cathe's other step tend to be HIIT type workouts with not much complexity in terms of choreography.

If you are looking for intensity training then you can't beat the IMAX workouts (any of them). If you are looking for cross training then try Cardio & Weights, BodyMax, Circuit Max (has some step at the end but is mostly floor aerobics), Step, Jump and Pump.

But from your question, I can assume you are probably looking more for dancy type workouts with complex choreography. I suggest the Classics Vol 1 to start with where there are 3 step workouts on 1 DVD. Even with these one the intensity is still high so you get a very nice cardio workout.

Hope this helps.

IMAX 2 is my absolute favorite. it combines dancy step routine with high intensity blasts. you can't go wrong with this workout.

Thanks everybody for your help! There are just so many Cathe workouts, I am finding it confusing....I do go on Collage and watch the clips on Cathe.com too, so that helps. I just wish I had the money to buy them all, and then it wouldn't be an issue!!!:D

I second this. These two are my very favorite step videos. Surprisingly I didn't think I would like complex step when I started but after getting more comfortable with stepping I love it a little more complex. Unfortunately I fell off the step during Rhythmic Step the other day so I'm sidelined for now. So take it easy out there, everybody!

When I first found Cathe and started buying her DVDs, I justified buying 1 DVD a month for awhile by telling myself and my husband that $50/month is what the Gym Memberships around here charge and I can keep the DVDs forever. I think it's time to resurrect that argument to augment my collection with some more weight workouts. :)
