Stability Ball question

Hi,

My first question is.....where do I get a cute pink stability ball?? I love them!! :)

My second question is....what size do they use in the videos?? It looks like they are using the same size ball for everyone, even though everyone is not the same height. Is this correct??

Thanks!
Melanie :)

I have a follow-up question (hope you don't mind, Melanie!)...

How do you get the stability balls so firm? Even when mine is pumped as much as it can be, it still gets "smushed" when I sit on it :(. I know it's as full as it can go, though, since it's so wide, I can't even straddle the ball! Do I just have a bad quality ball?

Thanks :)
Jennifer

I'm wondering what size they use also. I have the 65cm ball from the Core Secret series (I threw out all their DVD's because they don't hold a candle to Cathe's) and it seems a bit huge for me when I'm doing core training.

I'm 5'4" 115 lbs and wondering what size ball is good for my frame.

Thanks for letting me add on to your question Melanie :)

Me again. I think I may have answered my own question. I did a search for stability balls and found a page that goes into detail about what size balls you should use. They also had a chart:

Ball Diameter User Height
20-25 cm. ball (8-10 inches) =For non-sitting exercises
requiring a small ball
30 cm. ball (14 inches) children 1-2 years old
42 cm. ball (16 inches) 4 ft. 10in. tall
55/53 cm. ball (21 inches) 4 ft. 11 in. to 5 ft. 7 in. tall
65 cm. ball (25 inches) 5 ft. 8 in. to 5 ft. 11in. tall
75 cm. ball (29 inches) >6 ft. 0 in. tall

I hope I can help here...
As far as the size of the ball, use what is best for your height. Many balls on the market have a size chart on the box. I am 5'1 so I use the 55cm ball. The color of the size matters in where you purchase the ball. Many places buy from different companies, and there is no set color for the size.

To get it as firm as possible...
You can pump until your arm falls off and still not get the ball as tight as it can be. I have learned a couple of tricks, which have really worked. One of them you must be VERY carefull. But you can take the ball up to the gas station and use the air machine, but again be VERY carefull not to pop your ball.
The other is - if you have a sports medician shop in your area (one that sales products for injuries) normally they sale stability balls as well, and they usually have a machine that airs up those balls for you.

I have a sports medicine shop right down from my office and I took my ball in just the other day to have them air it up instead of using my pump at home. It was a little tricky transporting my ball around and I did get a few funny looks, but I have a very inflated ball that is right where it is suppose to be so I didn't mind the looks.

I hope this helped out!! ;-)

Hi Melanie! We got our red (looks more pink when inflated) balls through Power Systems and it is the 55 cm ball. Various companies sell stability balls and they usually have their own color codes, so you need to read what size you are ordering rather than go by color. Power systems offers the 55 cm ball in red light gray and black. Their website is www.power-systems.com or 1-800-321-6975.

Have a ball ;-)

Hi Jennifer! It is normal for the balls to have some "smushing" occur when you sit on them. Just not too much. It is so hard to gauge what a true 55cm or 65 cm ball size is without actually measuring it (which by the Power Systems has a little stability ball measuring tape available for under $3 if you really want to be sure of your ball size). But a good guess for appropriate size for your body height is to sit on the ball and aim to have a 90 degree angle at the hip and knee joint.

Hope this helps!

That's the ball I'm using as well! I wonder if the Core Secrets ball is a little on the big side? It's supposed to be a 65cm, but it looks a little bigger than that too me, hmm...

My Core Secrets ball (which I don't think is even inflated all the way!) is HUGE compared to my 55 cm. Dura Ball. It does seem more than 10 cm. larger in diameter.
