Squat Stands - does this look safe?

I've been looking at squat racks etc and they look like they take up quite a bit of room and they are expensive. I found these that I could just move to a corner of the room. They would work for my bench press and a squat rack and are affordable. I will never be able to lift as heavy as most people and my husband says I could get them if they are safe. Does anyone have these or do they look like a waste of money. I need something that I can afford and will not take up a lot of room.

Hmmmm.... the place where you would rest your barbell seems too wide to keep it from rolling forwards or backwards. Usually they have a "V" shaped niche to safely hold the barbell.

Also, 35" at their highest point... isn't it too short? I was looking at about 60" to 65" maximum height.

I'm sure you will find a pair of squat stands at about $100 which would be safer and designed for squats and general heavy barbell use.

Look for something similar to this (only cheaper):

Chris is right: these are for doing bench presses, not squats.

You can find a two-piece squat rack set like the one she linked to (but cheaper) at www.power-systems.com (though the shipping cost might be high).

I'd go with two free standing stands instead of the attached one. They'd be less expensive, versatile to put aside and easy to put them by your flat/incline bench to work chest or shoulders. And they can also accommodate any barbell length.

I've found several heavy-duty pairs here in Athens at around 100 Euros ($155) so I bet you'll be able to find cheaper in the States.

Thanks, I'm just looking for something small that won't take up a lot of room and a good price. Another great idea I heard of was to use a weighted vest (which I have one) that goes up to 10 lbs so this could help.

Do you have an Academy in your area? I plan on buying a squat rack from there. It may take up more space than you wanted, but it also comes with an incline bench that has the piece connected for doing leg work. I was surprised that it was only $78.

These are the ones the OP mentioned. ;-)

The Valor really looks good and the price looks good. They look like they would be easy to slide into to corner out of the way when not used and I wouldn't have to worry if my barbell would fit since it is a unconventional size.

Thanks
