Ordinarily, I use sugar in my coffee. When on the South Beach Diet, I use Splenda. Generally, I wonder which is actually better for me in the grand scheme (diet/eating plan notwithstanding). Thoughts?
My doctor said splenda and sweet and low are ok. Stay away from the Nutra Sweet.

I started to post the same question the other day! I asked a lady at my local health food store to help me find a Whey Protein that didn't have any nasty sugars, etc in it. I asked her about one that had Sucralose in it....she immediately pulled it from her shelf saying "you're kidding me, I didn't know that was in this product and we do not put anything on our shelves with it in it!" I said, what is surcalose anyway? She said Splenda! Then ventured to tell me it has chlorine in it. This really surprised me!!!!! Especially when there are so many that drinks the BSN protein shakes. Lately, I've noticed it is in everything!!!!! Almost as bad as that nasty high fructose corn syrup! My opinion...and just my opinion...If I'm going to have any type of sugar, I have "sugar" or "cane sugar". At least I know (or hope) it is just sugar and not some chemical derivative of it. I've added the website I found - again, it's just anothers opinion but it's pretty informative!
It's a shame at what the FDA approves and says it's ok for us. I guess that's why "clean eating" is the ONLY way to go! I strive for it - but I'm guilty;-)
I heard that Splenda is chemically altered in processing and is not properly absorbed when digesting. I stick to as close to nature as I can. I use organic raw sugar and I got some agave nectar that I'm going to try.
You can do a google search on "splenda toxic" and get both possitive and negative pages to read about it on. I tend to lean towards better safe than sorry.
I decided as of Sunday to quit using equal which I've used for years, mainly in my coffee in the morning. I've heard about agave nectar and stevia, where do you find these products?
Stevia tastes super bitter to me, I do however like agave nectar...but my all time favorite for coffee is the splenda/sugar mix...I like really sweet coffee so this it perfect.
I use Splenda and have for a couple of years now. I wouldn't bother except that I LOVE COFFEE and drink alot of it through out the day. I am saving myself tons of empty calories by not using real sugar. Is it worse for me then real sugar overall? Perhaps. I don't really know but thus far I have had absolutely no health problems so I'm not going to worry about it...
I am pregnant, and my doc said Splenda is fine. I use one of the small packets every day on my bowl of berries and about a third of a packet in my hot tea every morning. I think if it's OK for pregnant women it's fine for everyone. I just make sure and not load up on it regardless.
