Something we DON'T know about you (FITNESS)

Another one who was last picked in gym class. Oh well . . . that was YEARS ago.

I can press 200lbs on the leg press machine at the gym. One of the few things I miss about the gym are the leg machines.

i think i can play soccer and softball but i really stink at it, but its all fun either way :)

Missy and Gayle - I'm with you......

Captain of the volleyball, basketball and softball teams in high school. Hated running (now love it!). Voted female athlete of the year in high school my senior year. On varsity in softball in 8th grade, volleyball 10th grade and basketball 10th grade. LOVE any kind of sport there is.......

My mom used to joke about the letter pins I had on my letterman's jacket because I had so much more than my brother she thought we should trade jackets so I'd have more room. ;-) (needless to say, that didn't sit well with him )

Since other people are confessing positive things...

I was a sprinter growing up (hated running distance), and when I lived in Italy, I represented my school in the 100 m and 4 x 100 m relay in the All Italy School Track Championships. I won the 100 m race and if our last runner hadn't tripped 10 ft from the finish, we would have placed gold in the relay too, but we got silver. I have the medals somewhere:)

On the downside, I throw like a girl;)

I like many of you was picked last in gym class too and to top that off I am 5'11" and everyone expected me to play basketball so I tried out and was so bad they would not even pick me at all. Once I left highschool and in college I needed extra $$ so I started teaching aerobics (with much help from my former boss) and I have had people in my class from high school that can make it about 10 minutes before they walk out.
Well, I am getting the last laugh 10 year reunion this year and I can drop kick all their as*es! All I can say is oh how 10 years makes a difference. Bring it on!

BTW- for everyone who was picked last, who cares we are all older and in better shape than before. What does that tell you? High school stinks! Pat yourself on the back for workout out as hard as you do!

Great thread!

I have to set up my workout area every morning- put my workout clothes on the bed, get out the step (I workout in the middle of the family room, so it's hard to miss if it's out!), bands, workout progress sheet, and put the DVD in. I somehow feel if I do all of this preparation that when I get home for work, I have to workout. Not working out and having to put all that stuff away makes you really feel like a slacker! This little routine has really helped me stick to my plan.

I also keep a food and exercise journal where I write down everything- my mood, cravings, milestones, etc.

One more, I actually talk to Cathe during the workouts, especially when she talks directly to us, her audience. Creepy, huh?!

"One more, I actually talk to Cathe during the workouts, especially when she talks directly to us, her audience. Creepy, huh?!"

I think that's actually fairly normal for this group. I talk to Cathe all the time.:)

When I started working out I couldn't even finish a Denise Austin (gasp) and then moved onto Sharon Mann (which I also couldn't finish-gasp! BTW that's not shock, that was the sound of me gasping for breath, LOL!) Feels pretty good to be able to think of Imax 3 as an "easy" day or know that 5 miles is "short" run!

I always stretch and I always warm up! Sarah, can I have gold star now?;-)
Actually, I just can't get moving w/o the warm-up and the stretch feels so goood!

I was always picked last in gym class, but one week in 6th grade we were learning volleyball. I was chosen last as usual, and we played other teams in rotation. Our team was usually near the bottom. Our last game, we were losing and it was my turn to serve. Everyone was rolling their eyes, thinking, "Oh no, we're gonna lose." I did an awesome serve and the girl on the other team just let it hit the ground in front of her. I did that 15 more times, and we won the game! I don't know if it was great serving or just picking that dumb girl who wouldn't hit the ball, but I felt really great that day!

This is strange ladies but I can never do the last rep of a weight exercise. Okay don't laugh, it is just something that bugs me! If you are supposed to do a set of 12, I can only do eleven especially if she says you have two to go. Okay, so have me committed!:p

You want to hear sad??.......I spend more time reading these forums then I do exercising. I always feel motivated after reading these but......:-(

O.k., you are sounding like me when I eat my food. For some reason, I always have to have a morsel left of something on my plate...WHY? I just do! So we are crazy? What's new? LOL!

I will probably *never* be a swimmer... and that's fine by me!! I really hate getting water up my nose. I try and avoid getting into the water at all costs if it will involve my nose under water.

I'm perfectly fine with a hot tub, though!! :p :7

And, I always loved tumbling gymnastics and was a cheerleader in junior high. If I even *thought* about the bar work, though, my hands start to sweat.

My hands are sweating right now when I think about it.

And you non-warmer-uppers and non-stretchers are just horrifying me!!!

Ditto. I held the record for the mile in middle school: 6 minutes, 36 seconds. I never ran much after that, but was always picked first for teams in school. However, my hand eye coordination is very bad. Foot eye is much better, thank goodness for step workouts.

I was a WICKED (not nice) inner-tube-water-polo-player in college, and continued to play up until I had two kids. I used to schlep them to the pool and let them hang out with DH, so I could play intramural water polo.

I was always picked first in gym. My long legs. Sometimes when no one is around I work out in my birthday suit. SHHHHHH don't tell anyone. I am not big busted so this is not an issue.

I just remembered this. It's sort of sad but at 51 years old I'm over it now.

I always wanted to be a cheerleader but I was extremely overweight in my freshman year of high school...like 50 lbs. But, in true Candi fashion, more guts than brains as my mother used to say (what a Mom) I tried out anyway. I didn't make it but I did TRY ;-)

I'm sure I looked ridiculous but I gained much more self confidence than I lost :7 :+

And, I too, was the last one picked for anything requiring athleticism.

I was the captain of my high school swim team, and was being recruited by several college teams, but purposefully went to a college without a swim team to aviod the pressure of being a college athelete. I was afraid I'd go from being the best to being a big ol' loser.
I'm also afraid to ride a bicycle on the road because I think I'll get hit by a car.

I was a little prima ballerina in my younger years. I danced for 7 years before getting injured. :( I received very high marks from the Royal Academy of Dance in England (they even hand wrote "commended" on my certificate for graduating from one class to the next - I was SO excited!).

I never played sports growing up - ever. I was always picked last in gym class too.

I rode my first century (100 miles) on a bike last summer. I think that this year I will stick to metric centuries (62.5 miles) :) .
