something to think about...as well as to share

Great thread!!

Mine is more inspirational for eating healthy and dedicating myself to stay strong when dealing with those around me who really don't seem to want to see me succeed.

"Obsessed is the word the unmotivated use to describe the dedicated."

I read this on this forum years ago and wrote it down and never forgot it.

Well, thinking of that thread, and the wonderful Broadway show I saw last month:

You've got to be taught
To hate and fear,
You've got to be taught
From year to year,
It's got to be drummed
In your dear little ear
You've got to be carefully taught.

-"South Pacific", Rodgers and Hammerstein

Mine is by my daughter. She was a little over 3 1/2. She had gotten the flu and gotten better but Halloween night, I knew she was not feeling well. A couple of days later, she woke up and was swaying on her bed. She could not walk, crawl, sit up, nothing. Her speech was slurred. I rushed her to the doctor who determined she had acute cerebellar ataxia - basically, the flu virus had attacked her cerebellum. This lasted for about a month. It was horrific for the adults, but not for her spirit. My mom was over one day and she told Halle she was praying for her to be better. They were sitting outside having a snack (Halle had to be in her stroller so she could be propped up). Halle asked mom to go pick a flower and then gave it to her. Mom could only look at Halle and feel sorry for her, and saddened. She told Halle she wanted Halle to be happy and well again. Halle told her, "But Nana, I AM happy!" So, that is my quote that I like to remember. Choose to be happy, no matter what - don't let life get you down for good. She later took her second set of first footsteps, and those were so much more exciting than the actual first ones because it was affirmation she would be well again. Now, at 8, she is perfectly well, and still very happy :)

Mine is in my signature line:

My own: "People shouldn't be tolerant of prejudice."

Chocolate IS the answer, regardless of the question.

>If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at
>all.... (my Mom, not sure where the quote originated!)

This is from the Disney Movie "Bambi". Thumper tells Bambi that his mother told him this. Oh I love that quote and the movie too. All these quotes are great. What a great thread. Some are bringing tears to my eyes because of their powerful statement.

From A-Jock:
"It is no sign of mental health to be well-adjusted to a profoundly sick society."

*nods* I read this one some time ago, and it has always stuck with me. Sometimes I see something that the majority appears to be doing, and yet it doesn't sit right with me. I find myself reflecting on the above quote often.

I gotta add my funny ones ... on my wall at my office!

"If confusion is the first step to knowledge, I must be a genius" - Larry Leissner

"there are some friends you know you will have for the rest of your life. You are welded together by love, trust, respect, loss .. or simple embarrassment."

and ....

"I am ONE workout away from a good mood" .. not sure where I read it ..but I read it somewhere and I look at it everyday about this time of day!! :7

"We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names, and all are different colors, but they all have to live in the same box." author???
