So, what do you guys think?

The other night, after work, I decided to do Step Blast. 10 min. into it I tripped, twisted my ankle, heard quite a crack in my ankle and fell. What a klutz!:+ At first, I could hardly walk on it and it felt a little numb. I walked it off for about 5 min. and then surprizingly, finished the workout. I thought it would hurt too much to do step, but it was ok. My outer ankle is swollen along the bone and I iced it on and off yesterday, but it really doesn't hurt at all today. My dh says to let it rest a couple more days, but I can jump and I feel ok, but like I said it's swollen and just a little achey over the bone. I really want to exercise tomorrow morning. What do you experts think? Will I aggravate it more? I think I only will if I twist it again. I feel like Cardio Kicks tomorrow.:D

If it is swollen....there is something wrong. Do not exercise on it. I would go see a doctor if it is still swollen and or achy tomorrow. Keep us posted.

I'd have it checked before exercising again if it's still swollen tomorrow - it sounds like it was quite an injury. You could end up doing more damage if you don't let it heal and then you'll have a longer recovery time.

Maybe do an upper body workout where you're not putting your weight on that leg - lots of exercises on the bench?

Just because you can put weight on it doesn't mean it isn't fractured. For heaven's sake - go have it x-rayed just to be sure. If there is no fracture, ask the doc about working out on it. Even sprains and strains are nothing to play around with. If it's nothing, that's cool. But if you continue to workout and it's fractured, or even badly sprained, you could injure the ligaments around the entire joint, and set yourself up for problems further down the road. It's just not worth the risk. The last thing you need is to end up with a bone fusion years from now, or an arthritic joint, just because you didn't make a trip to get it x-rayed. No offense to your DH, but unless he's a physician, he might very well be giving you bad advice without realizing it.

I have to agree with the other folks. It seems like you should have it looked at. Do PUB instead of Cardio Kicks.

Don't push it!!! Trust me on this! I have had ankle injuries that seemed insignificant, but if you don't give it a rest you will be sorry and consequently may do something that will require an even longer time off exercise! Do weights or something else that won't impact your ankle - give it a rest!

Get it x-rayed and keep off it for a while. I sprained my ankle in early December and at first we thought it was broke, but x-rays solved that mystery. Even with the sprain, I had to take it really easy for a couple of months. Sprains in ankles can be worse than an actual break. My MIL is a gymnastics coach and she has seen kids break their ankle, not know it, and still be able to finish their workout and find out later it was broke. Better have it checked.

Yes, the crack you heard when you twisted it concerns me. I broke my ankle years ago while playing with my kids - I twisted it running around a corner and heard a loud crack.

My neighbor broke her ankle and didn't realize it and continued walking on it and ended up with a very long recovery time because she tore up all of the surrounding tendons and ligaments.

Let us know what happens.

I decided to take the week off and not mess around with it. My ankle feels much better today and the swelling has lessened. I don't think I need x-rays. I think I just need to stay off it so it heals thoroughly. Thanks for the input guys! I'll see how it is next week. If by chance it isn't better by Friday, I'll see the doc, but I think I'll be ok.:)

Don't do it. I say ice and give it rest for at least today, if not another few. You don't want to end up breaking it or worse, spraining it. If you don't see the swelling go down, see your doc in a few days. I just wouldn't want to see you end up putting yourself out of the game for 6 months if something were to happen.

Yep. I decided not to be stupid. I am afraid of taking myself out of the game longer than I would want to.
