So I have finally kicked the soda habit...

and feel great! I've been a 2-3 can a day soda drinker (and that is regular Sprite or Coke, not diet) for years now  It's been about 2 weeks since I quit cold turkey and traded that soda for unsweetened green tea. I thought it was my fast approaching 40s that was causing me to feel bloated all the time. I know this is old hat to most of you here that have the amazing willpower to eat squeaky clean, but I'm so excited to have finally seen the light  Hope this motivates anyone else considering making changes to their diet.

That is so awesome Jennifer! The sodas are so addictive! I was raised with Coca Cola Classic always available in the house. I continued to drink Dr. Pepper religiously throughout college. I switched from regular colas to diet colas about 3 years ago. I am a Diet Dr. Pepper addict, but I limit myself to about 32 oz per week or about 3 cans per week. And that is TOUGH for me!

You go girl!

Peace,
Brandie

Go! go! go! I've tried, and haven't been able to give that one up. I switched from regular to diet years ago, but haven't been able to give it up completely. I am under no illusion that diet is better for me, its probably worse filled w/ goodness knows what chemicals:confused::confused: I normally drink 1 or 2 cans a day. But on a weekend day, I've been known to p[ut down a 2 liter :eek::eek: I drink water all day at work - about 8 glasses just at work, so I'll have a can w/ lunch, and maybe when I get home. I get tired of water all the time. I need some flavor! And some bubbles! Bubbles are happy:D

Thanks, Brandie. I knew I couldn't just limit myself so I had to quit cold turkey, which surprisingly has gone well and I'm not craving the soda. I also wanted to set a good example for my DDs since they are not allowed to drink soda. Hopefully you can kick the habit, too. I also noticed that my meals taste so much better now that the taste of the food is not competing with the strong flavor of soda :)

Good for you! One of the many things I am grateful for is that I've never been a soda drinker. I see how hard it is for so many to give it up.

congratulations! try not to treat yourself to just one...because sometimes it gets you started all over again. can be very addictive. i also drink tea instead of soda. if you ever get tired of the green tea, look online at teavana.com, they have some incredible blends of tea that are just as addictive as the soda but much more beneficial to your health. :)

why not try flavored seltzer water? you can by it flavored or add your own fresh slices of lemon or lime, or raspberries. you'll have the bubbles but give up the chemicals.

As a previous pepsi and mt dew junkie I know how hard this is- WAY TO GO!!!

Hi Five Jennifer,

You will see a weight reduction just by giving up the soda and that bloated feeling. Only drink water now, occasional glass of wine ;) ok maybe "2"

Good for you, Jennifer!

I remember how hard it was to quit Pepsi cold turkey once I decided it wasn't good for me (that was many years ago). I felt the call every time I went past the fridge (I was still living with my parents). I think I was definitely psychlogically, if not physically, addicted to it.

But after I didn't have it for a while, I decided to have some, and it tasted aweful!

Too sweet, oddly chemical (and that was in the 70's, so it might have actually had less crap in than it does nowdays!).

Wow, way to go Jennifer! My DH is in the process of trying to do this. He is a soda junkie. I have him down to just drinking it on the weekends now. I know it's hard. Congrats!

Way to go!! I wish I could get the DH to give up his addiction! Maybe I'll pick up some flavored seltzer water and see if I can get him to consider it. I know the carbonation still isn't good for your enamel, but at least maybe I can get him off the HFCS...

Jennifer! GOOD JOB! DH and I have done the same and could not be happier. For us the weight started falling off our bodies fairly quickly too! :)

That's awesome!! You'll see, after a while, you won't even crave it! I quit drinking soda after I graduated high school! Now it's to where I can have a small glass of it, like 6 ounces, if I eat a slice of pizza! Just enough to get that bubbly feeling, and then I'm good! I hardly eat pizza, so I make it like a treat. Haha! Because I know that I can't just have water with pizza! Blah!

Now if only I could give up sweets......

Keep up the good work Jennifer :)

good job!! I have a friend who was addicted to DIET soda and always felt sick. she thought she had fibromyalgia and even was on meds for it. Then she decided to stop drinking the sodas and started feeling better!! Its been years now since I heard her complain about hurting and feeling bad. it maybe the fake sweeteners or the soda I dunno.
Anyway. I used to love dr pepper. Now I only drink it like 3x a year and I usually feel like doodoo afterwards. So that helps me stay away from it most of the year. Just tastes really good with a pizza splurge ha. figure an occasional splurge isn't too bad. but yeah great job on kicking it!
