So I planned on signing up for my first half marathon that's in May. I wanted to do one before I'm 40, and 2 weeks ago tapped into my best friend since babyhood. We just started week 2 of training and she's kind of wimping out. Doesn't like running .... So just talked to my DH as an alternate and got "nope, not interested." I feel so abandoned!! I WILL do it, even alone. Which I guess will add to the accomplishment. But I just shed a few tears of loneliness. This is a challenge for me, but I will NOT go into my 40th year 10 lbs too heavy and not in the best shape of my life. Even if I do it alone :(

Good for you for being determined to do it no matter what! Maybe now you feel let down by your friend, but I do believe things happen for a reason. Maybe you'll discover some inner strength you never had before? Maybe you can join a running group and meet some fabulous people? Keep searching for the opportunities that await you! :D

Kudos to you for your determination! Don't let others dictate your goals! GO FOR IT! You are never alone! You always have us Cathletes to cheer you on, encourage you and be there for you when you feel like you can't go on! We are here for you!

Where is does the half take place at? Just wondering cause theres a half in cleveland ohio in may that I've done before

Runfree - it takes place in Traverse City, MI. On may 28.

Thanks so much for the support. After having slept on it - and talked to another running friend - I'm just that much more determined to do it. It's my personality - when I decide I'm going to do something it will take a serious injury to stop me! That's what I love about running - such a HUGE percentage is mental!! I'll just keep telling myself I'll be rockin' that 40th in the best shape of my life :)

Don't let that kill your dream. You can do it. It's your dream, not someone else's. You can make it with someone you know, or a whole bunch of stangers.

Good for you!! You are going to do great in the race...and you will not be alone. You will find that when you are running in that race, that all of the other participants are your "running partners". That's what I love about runners, everyone supports each other, even when you are in a race. Good luck and have fun!!

ITA!
And it might work out even better, because you and others at your same pace will naturally gravitate to each other and perhaps end up chatting during part of the course.

All true! I'll just remind myself it'll be like tripling the fun I've had at my 5k's!!

Completely! Tricia said it perfectly. We're here for you!

Do it alone, if you must. I'm doing my first half marathon in May and haven't even thought about trying to get someone to do it with me. I'm a bit of a loner anyway, but I'm just planning to plop on my iPod and enjoy myself.

If you're in the Buffalo area, though... I'll be your partner.

Sorry - Michigan! And I've actually realized through this I tend to be a loner also. Too many women I know wimp out on things, and once I decide I'm doing something I'm DOING it come hell or serious injury!

Atta girl! It's all about proving to yourself that you've got what it takes. Once you do it, you get such a sense of who you can be and start thinking "why did I ever doubt myself"?
