Serious DOMS - need serious help

I knew this was going to happen. After a workout hiatus since before the holidays, I did my first Brazil Butt Lift workout and I am really suffering today. Yesterday was tolerable but then worsened thru evening, and today I seriously cannot move without excruciating pain.

HELP! I took a warm bath this am - only helped temporarily.

Any ideas?

This sucks!

Ah, you have what I call DBDOMS (Deep-butt DOMS!). A term I coined especially for BBL workouts, LOL!

Did your bath include Epsom salts? The magnesium in the salts can help relax muscles.

Also, try some light stretching.

Drink lots of fluids, to help with circulation.

Not moving seems to make things worse, so if you can go for a gentle walk, that might help.

Or combine the movement and stretching and do some light cardio.

Heidi - Have you taken any Advil/Ibuprofen? If not, I would start there. Moist heat is the best for this kind of thing. I have one of those neck wraps that you stick in the microwave and heat up - and it would be a perfect fit for the posterior. It has flax seeds inside of it and they give off a nice gentle "wet" heat. You can make this by just getting some flax seeds at a store and nuking them in a pillow case or small fabric bag. Just make sure there is no plastic or metal on the bag. ;) If you have any locked up muscles, the only thing that really helps me is to bite a bullet and massage them. A foam roller works best if you happen to have one laying around. I once had doms so bad in my legs that after driving home from work (about a 45 minute drive), I could not straighten my legs out. I had to actually crawl in the house and call the hospital to see what to do. My doctor laughed and told me to massage the heck out of them. It worked, but I had to keep it up every few hours. Ok, far more info. than you probably wanted. Just been there with the excruciating DOMS. Hope you feel better!

- Oh, and Epsom salt in your bath helps too.

OK now you are scaring me! I just got BBL today and was so looking forward to starting a rotation on Monday. I have DOMS this week from doing a Jillian Michaels NMTZs and 30 Day Shred along with the new Jackie Warner. These workouts are harder than they appear at first.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, my tush is sore but it's mostly my quads that kill. Getting up and down is horrid. Stairs...forget it! I walk like I have a load in my pants:(

I'll try the bath with the epsom salts, and as much as the foam roller sounds like sticking a knife in my thighs, I'll bite the bullet and try that too along with some light stretching.

Geez, I just get back into a workout and have to take several days off because I'm so sore. Oh well, I kind of knew this would happen. Almost makes me feel flu-like. Blech.

Thanks so much!
Heidi

L-Glutamine works great to help muscles heal. It's a necessity for me. You can get this at the Vitamin Shoppe or GNC or stores like that.

I had no idea that those things had flax seeds in them. Cool.

Hope you feel better soon!! My first BBL workout was a bit brutal too. I'm loving it though!!

YES!! Another plug for the foam roller.

Sometimes, working the area a *little* bit can help for me. So, if my glutes are really sore, I'll do some air squats...not many, just a few slow sets of 5 or 10 to get the blood moving. Not a full blown workout in any way.

I also concur w/ the walking suggestion as it really helps me. The first steps are painful but nothing helps me get rid of leg/glute DOMS faster. Good luck and hope you find relief soon.

Hi Heidi,

After any royal Cathe butt-kicking (sorry for the pun) I take ZMA (Zinc Magesium) at night along with a long hot bath. Walmart carries a really good and reasonably priced Bath Soak for Sports (it's a very nice smelling pretty blue salt). The ZMA is an awesome anabolic recovery supplement and also helps me sleep. I really dose my bath with extra Epsom salts in addition to the Bath Soak. Maybe some analgesic rub or patches would help.

My BBL will be arriving anyday. I look for it with both excitement and some fear!! Just like Cathe's workouts!

Hang in there, girl!

Pam
