Seperated abdominals: please elaborate!

I was told when I was pregnant to *not* do any type of ab excercises whatsoever. I was told that if I did, I could separate these muscles. I was also told not to do any vacuuming or anything like that while pregnant.

For my first (twin) pregnancy, I was not at all into exercise, and believe me, I barely even vacuum now (!). I was basically normal weight, reasonably healthy for both pregnancies, didn't do any form of actual exercise except a fair bit of walking. I think often it is just the side effect of the massive increase in tummy size (I was HUGE out front for both pregnancies). Although, maybe there is some kind of hormonal factor...I'm just guessing, but maybe the hormones that are supposed to make everything really supple and stretchy kinda of diminish as you get older, and the muscles tear rather than streeeeetch.

I was 28 and 34 for my pregnancies...I have known women who were younger when they were pregnant who seemed to bounce back easier.

Back in the year 2000, when I had lost over 100 lbs (I gained it all back though), I had a full tummy tuck because I was told by many doctors that it is physically impossible to have seperated abs come back together via exercise. I hate to break this to you ladies, but it is the truth. I had separated abs even though I was only 19 years old at the time, and have never had any children.

RE: separated abs

Well, I checked again yesterday during CoreMax and found that I can't even fit the tip of 1 finger in anymore - Yeah!! It has been about 5 years since my last pregnancy but I wear that belt faithfully!

Good luck to you all!
