Too Old! Why do they keep casting Robin Hood as this middle aged wanker? When Kevin Costner (who I never could stomach) played him, he was too old too. Christian Slater played Will Scarlett in that -- he was the right age to be Robin. Also, they had that absurd casting of Sean Connery as Richard -- Richard died when he was 42 -- Sean was 20 years past that. The only good thing in that one was Alan Rickman -- who looked very, very sexy in black.
So now we have Russel Crowe -- at least he is British Commonwealth, but certainly not a Saxon as Robin is supposed to be -- and Vanessa Redgrave as Eleanor of Aquitaine. That is not bad casting -- Eleanor was supposed to have been the most beautiful woman in Europe in her youth and lived a long life -- but she never is mentioned in any of the tales -- so why cast her now? Scott Grimes is Will Scarlett -- too old, Will is clearly supposed to be a youth. And William Hurt as William Marshall? Again, I would watch Hurt read the phone book -- but Marshall was dead by then and not a character in the tales! You know they are going to do something really annoying with his character too.
