Russell Crowe-Robin Hood

Oooh, any chance to see Russell Crowe on a white horse... *sigh* I would not want to live with the man, but I sure like looking at him. :D

I, too, hope the actor is okay.

Wow, I'm totally confused now. When I first read about this film being shot, Russell Crowe was going to be playing the Sheriff of Notingham. It was supposed to be a complete revision of the story with the Sheriff actually being the good guy. Sounded very interesting to me. Who needs another Robin Hood movie about Robin. There have been a million of those.

Just read another article that says he is playing BOTH rolls. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Too Old! Why do they keep casting Robin Hood as this middle aged wanker? When Kevin Costner (who I never could stomach) played him, he was too old too. Christian Slater played Will Scarlett in that -- he was the right age to be Robin. Also, they had that absurd casting of Sean Connery as Richard -- Richard died when he was 42 -- Sean was 20 years past that. The only good thing in that one was Alan Rickman -- who looked very, very sexy in black.

So now we have Russel Crowe -- at least he is British Commonwealth, but certainly not a Saxon as Robin is supposed to be -- and Vanessa Redgrave as Eleanor of Aquitaine. That is not bad casting -- Eleanor was supposed to have been the most beautiful woman in Europe in her youth and lived a long life -- but she never is mentioned in any of the tales -- so why cast her now? Scott Grimes is Will Scarlett -- too old, Will is clearly supposed to be a youth. And William Hurt as William Marshall? Again, I would watch Hurt read the phone book -- but Marshall was dead by then and not a character in the tales! You know they are going to do something really annoying with his character too.

Totally, totally agree. Robin Hood is almost always cast too old, the notable exception being Michael Praed in the 1980s British series Robin of Sherwood.

Hamlet, too, suffers from this.

Wanker - LOLOLOL! Haven't heard that in quite some time.

Could not stomach Kevin Costners lack of accent either. Rickman was great though!

I used to adore Russell Crowe - then he threw a telephone at some poor working class shlubb who he knew couldn't do anything about it without losing his job. Spoiled movie star.

Still, LOVED him way back in LA Confidential - and he was really too old to play the parts he was getting offered back then. If he's playing Sheriff, cool. If he's playing RobinHood? Well, that's just weird. But Hollywood never gets it right so I wouldn't be surprised.

I don't think Hollywood is concerned with absolute historical accuracy, just as long as everything seems generally right to the average audience. Sometimes, actually, interesting twists can come from being deliberately inaccurate. Oh, and I would also like to add my total approval of Alan Rickman.

Yep, my thoughts as well,...

Russell Crowe - Gladiator - drool, drool, drool........

Thanks all I can muster right now.......

MMMMMMM! That's all I can say.
For those of you who say you wouldn't want to live w/him, I'm sure you'd beg to differ if you knew what a romantic he is, now much he adores his wife & children.
In fact, the whole telephone thing was a bad decision made by a jet-lagged guy who was just trying to call home to Australia to say goodnite to his family. Not an excuse, but I believe he apologized quite a bit for it.
I cannot wait to see this movie. If ever a man looked totally handsome in chain mail, it's Russell :)
