Runners shoes or cross trainers for Cathe workouts??

What kinds of shoes do you guys wear when doing step tapes?? I have been wondering if there would be more support in the ankle areas with actual crosstrainers shoes?? I love my running shoes I just purchased, but they don't seem to give much support when I do step tapes............what about lifting to??

I actually wear running shoes. I have PF, high arches and very wide feet. They were the only shoe that my feet felt comfortable in. They do fine for Cathe workouts.

Right now I am in the market for the "perfect shoe". I have tried the Ryka Affirm (oooo, yuck!), and the Freddy (don't now the model), but it was too big (usbodyware.com no longer will carry them, so they will never have my size). I have returned the Freddy's and have exchanged for Otomix. The shoe I've picked is on usbodyware.com's website (it's the one that comes in black or white). If this one doesn't work, I'll try the more colorful Otomix at usbodyware.com. If that doesn't work, I will order the Ryka Rhythm II.

Sheez! Nobody around where I live carries a good aerobic shoe that I can try on, so I have to order them.

I currently use a walking shoe for aerobics (causes a "burn" in the soles of my feet up in the toe area), and a running shoe for the weight work (it's just a REALLY comfortable shoe, but hurts my legs and ankles if I use it for aerobics). If you can find a comfortable crosstrainer, I think that would be your best shot for aerobics.

A good shoe bends at the ball of the feet. Some cheaper shoes of a name brand don't do this, which I have found to cause a lot of burning. Go to a good athletic store and they will help you out. I have a wide foot with high arches as well and I have New Balance 853. They have been great and I no longer have burning or blistering on my feet. I use to have to bandage my feet for protection from calluses. These shoes are really great. I wouldn't order shoes over the internet without trying them first. What works for some don't work for others. It's hard to find knowedgable "shoe" sales people, maybe I lucked out, because the sales manager where I go is athletic, but I sure learned a lot about my feet.

My crosstrainers are New Balance 1006. They have good support. I also have a RYKA Solace pair of running shoes that I wear for some of my workouts because I like how the heel hugs and the toe is roomy. I like these on my kickboxing tapes and sometimes still wear them for step. Both shoes are really comfortable. I like to alternate my shoes so they can dry out.

I just got my parents the Basic step/Body Fusion DVD and under the fitness tips section Cathe says "A crosstrainer that states it can be used with step workouts."

I use NewBalance as well and haven't had any problems.

There are some shoes that are for aerobics/fitness - mostly made by Reebok. I live in Oregon (home of Nike) and it is very hard to find anything toher than Nike in any store. When I first moved here I tried to support the home town brand, but I have never had a pair of Nikes that I did not want to put into a rocket and fly to the moon - I hated them that much.

I order Reeboks online. Reebok also has a nice website that goes over what sports each shoe is designed for.

RE: Runners shoes or cross trainers for Cathe workouts?...

I would only use the shoe made specifically for that sport or you're asking for trouble. Running shoes are made for just that, they don't give lateral support, only for a heel to toe motion. You will run the risk of rolling your ankle over (this is from experience). A good crosstrainer fitted at an athletic shoe store is the way to go.

I am recovering right now from patella-femoral syndrome caused by an imbalance with my left foot and an ill fitting shoe. The physical therapist and athletic trainer I have to see now pointed this out to me. I thought I was getting a bargain by buying my New Balance cross trainers at a discount store, but that was when my problems began. I got my hardcore DVD's last week and cannot do any step or leg workouts and it's "killing" me. Next time I go buy shoes I will pay more for a professional fitting. At least I won't have the medical bills!

I actually went to the New Balance Store & had my feet measured. Funny I was always going for 1/2 size smaller in a wide width. I had problems with numb toes, so this is why I went out of my way to get my feet measured. Also one foot is slightly longer than the other. This has helped me a lot.

I've had wonderful luck with New Balance. I just goet a new pIr of Crosstrainers #908. Very comfy and exceptionally light! I have wide feet and these work. Good luck. Phyllis

Just realized that my shoes are 980 not 908.
