Runner's Check-In 05/23

Hi Jess! Yes, I suspect that DD is teething. However, I can't help but wonder if the tubes that were placed in her ears on Wednesday might be giving her problems because she has been fussy ever since her surgery. Also for her to be so upset for 4 hours straight even with Tylenol and everything else in her seems a bit odd for it to be teething alone. She is normally the happiest baby and would not want to be held a lot, but ever since the surgery I've been holding her a lot because she has demanded it. I guess I'll know more on Thursday when the ENT Dr. wants to check her out.

I totally agree that the treadmill isn't as appealing, unless it is raining outside. Gotta love those joggers. How would we ever get to run outside with little ones without them? LOL Maybe I could strap DS onto my back and DD onto my front. Talk about resistence.

RE: OK, I did the PUB

Elaine – My DH and I are booked at the Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa for Sat and Sun night but……. I was checking out MacArthur’s Place which is closer to the square, and may book there and cancel the SMI. They both are spendy but we were planning a “weekend getaway” sort of trip out of it too. And with the tension around our house these days with DD’s drama, we sure could use a “weekend getaway”!

Carole – thanks for the nice words. I have missed posting here too, but with being out of town and then busy, busy, it can get hard to post. You have now officially enabled me to make an appointment for a massage! ;-) :7

Sarah – YOU will BQ, I just know it! You’re in excellent health and super duper fitness shape, you have tons of family and friend support, and along with your smart training – you’re gonna tear it up and then some!! Yay Sarah!

Kristi – LOL – you are a fabulous enabler! I bet Wendy has researched baby joggers online already! Sorry to hear about your DD. I know when they are young pain like that can be very scary too. Take care and I hope she gets better.

Jess – no wonder you ladies run like the wind without a jogger. GEEZ, I have a hard enough time pulling my weight while running! Maybe I should buy a baby jogger and put my golden retriever in it and see what running fitness gains I can achieve..lol…..yeah that’s it, and we’ll start calling running with the baby jogger “joggermax”…:+

RE: And I added some pics

I LOVE the pictures! They are awesome! Thanks for sharing your excellent success! You should be very proud!

That reminds me...I need to get my post baby pictures scanned and on my trail. My boy was 2 months old and I was still in maternity clothes! Some may destroy such pictures but I show them to anyone who is willing to look! I've come a long way and I am proud!

Jess, you're just as gorgeous as your family! Your 1st 2 gilrs look identical to you, especially in the eyes! All 3 are beautiful!

If you put the picture trail address in your signature line, everyone will be able to see your perfect family!

RE: And I added some pics

Jes, you look AMAZING and your family is beautiful! You've come along way and should be very proud! Good for you girl! :)

Edited To Add:

I don't know if I should be thanking the ENABLERS for thier posts or yelling at them!:p }(

RE: And I added some pics

Jess!! You look great and those girls of yours are truly adorable!!! What a beautiful family you all make...thaks so much for sharing those pics...:)

RE: And I added some pics

And you added the enablers post right after I posted Wendy....I have no idea why??? http://smilies.sofrayt.com/eng/giggle2.gif[/img]

RE: And I added some pics

Jess, I agree with everybody else! You are beautiful, as is your entire family! Be PROUD!!!!

Wendy-what did I miss? What did the ENABLERS do to you? I read thru the posts twice and can't figure it out! LOL

I'm also just coming back here tonight to say that I'm headed to the basement as soon as the boys are tucked in bed (8pm) for a treadmill run. I'll wing it and see how I feel. Shooting for at least 3 miles, and that's when the GROOVE starts, so we'll see how far I can/want to go after that.

And thanks, ladies, for the input on shaving time off my marathon. I think what I'm going to do is follow a training program with training runs designed to shoot for the 4:20 time, and feel it out as I go along. If it feels like too much or is too hard on this body of mine, I'll scale it back. Besides, what do I know? LOL

RE: And I added some pics

Gayle - Training for a 4:20 is what I would do and then adjust if needed as you go. And by the way, I think you know quite a bit! Good luck with your training and just like the rest of you cheetahs around here, I think you are going to burn up DC with your marathon time! Woo Hoo Go Gayle!! :7

Wendy - what? whatdaya mean? what did WE do? lol... I'm sure you'll be THANKING US my dear....just wait til you take it to the streets, you'll be booking every 5K within a 20 mile radius. :7 :+

RE: And I added some pics

Gayle...They are talking me into buying a jogging stroller and I haven't even run a mile on pavement yet!}(

Thomasina...I hope my transition to pavement goes well enough to seriously consider a jogging stroller! I'm a bit nervous about this! DH keeps warning me how much harder it can be on the joints and all. Plus I am used to a treadmill keeping pace for me. On the road it will be all up to me how fast or slow I go! Too easy to break down and walk!

Carole...What is it with Catheites? They just LOOOVE to spend other people's money!!!}( }( :+ :7 ;) :p

So I took a ride today to measure the path I will take on Friday morning. It's only an estimate as I plan to run on a paved trail but it runs pretty parallel with the particular street I drove down...The road, however, is probably curvier so the trail is probably slightly shorter. The road is one mile so the particular section of trail I will be on is probably just shy of a mile...If I can run that one mile with out stopping first time out I will be happy. :+

RE: And I added some pics

Wendy your going to do just fine. My first outdoor run ever I thought it was going to be so much harder since my only runs were on the treadmill. Come to find out I would take the outdoors hands down anytime. Not only did I find it easier on my body I loved the fresh air, the elements, and all the other joggers you see.

When I do my long family Sunday runs. Dh has my four year old on the back of his bike and my 7 and 9 yo take turns riding there bikes beside me and there dad. They do all 10 miles with me and as I increse my milage so do they. We started off with 6 miles then 9 miles and now we are all up to 10 miles. I'm so proud of dh and my girls. The funny thing is that after I run and they bike the only one who is so tired is the baby. She says " Man I am soooo tired of all this hard work" We just laugh so hard at her. Her other favorite thing is to watch all the runners with there puppies. She loves dogs. Then we all have a picnic up on the hill that the runners do hill repeats. We watch them and eat our lunch. Now the girls have to have the same as me. Trail mix, powerade, bananas. I have to say it's fantasic way of life.

Hi Gayle, Marcia (glad your physical went well. Hope you get some rest.), Karen, Carole(sounds like your massage was great!), Wendy (I've been a tm user off and on for the past 13 years, and I have to admit outside is better. :)), Jess, Sarah (great pics!), Elaine, Shelly, Cristine, Kristi (I hope your dd feels better soon!), Barb, Judy, Kathy, and Thomasina (you and your family remain in my prayers).

Sorry I'm posting so late. I've been down today, and I just can't seem to perk myself up. For the past week I've been steadily gaining, and today (up 4 pounds)it just really got to me. Usually I fluctuate down after the long run, but not today. I have not even worked out today, and I ate way more than I should have because it just seems pointless. I've been pretty much at a standstill for months -- overall I have lost with occasional fluctuations here and there, and that has kept me motivated, but to be working as hard as I am, and gaining?!! I just don't know if I can handle it. My appetite has increased recently so I switched to core to accommodate it. At first I lost a few pounds, but since then I've put them back and then some. If I can gain while working out hard 5-6 times a week when I'm still 40-50 pounds away from goal, what's the point? Today it feels like I'll never reach my goal. It's been a year now, and of the 59 pounds I've lost, only 12 were lost this year, and technically it's not 59 any more.

Anyway, thanks for letting me vent. I doubt I'll exercise today, but if I had, it would have been P90X either PlyoX or Chest and Back. Tomorrow is a new day. I think I'll avoid the scale for a bit and try to focus on the positives like I look and feel much bettere than I did a year ago.

Have a great evening.
Pamela

Ok, I'm really blushing now! Thank you for your sweet compliments! I am truly blessed w/ a wonderful dh & sweet girlies. I've come a long way, baby!! I hope you don't get bored of pics because I love taking new pics!! I took a whole bunch of my dd at her little graduation tonight, so cute!

My Mom's here & I am planning on at least a 4-5 mile run in the morning! Yeah!

Wendy, I second (or third, or fourth,or whatever it's up to) that you are going to love to run outside. Of course I have never run on a treadmill! :+ LOL!!

We have one of those tag-a-long thingys to connect to the back of my DH's bike so that it sort of makes it like a tandem. My DH and DD have ridden along a few times while I was running 10 to 12 miles or so. It's so funny to be concentrating on running and then looking up at my sweet DD staring at me as she rides along side me! Who knows what is going through her mind!

And as a diehard Catheite, I have no trouble spending other people's money after having been enabled over and over and over again to spend my own. I'm sure the total is well into the thousands by now!

I just can't wait to start hearing your race reports!!!:D :D :D :D

RE: And I added some pics

Karen-
I was the same way when I first started running outdoors. It feels weird to be keeping your own pace but once you get used to it you'll love it!

Wow- now that's dedication!!! Amazing that your whole family bikes while you run!! We walk while my dd's ride their bikes around the block in the evening, but that's usually only 1.5- 2 miles. (of course, my dd's are a bit younger!) I think my 7yo would be able to go a lot further now though! You should be proud of your dh & kiddos!

Pamela- I don't know what type of diet/ nutrition plan you're on or how much you exercise, etc so excuse me if I'm way off base! I assume since you said you were thinking of switching to core that you do Weight watchers?? Are you adding in any new workouts or switching things up?? Sometimes I find that switching things (like a new workout, running more, etc) can actually make me gain a little at first, but as my body adjusts I'll start to lose again. Also, I always tend to gain weight before AF visits!! It's usually water & is gone w/in a couple days. Sometimes it just takes a couple days off to refocus too. I find that when I don't let my body fully rest I either end up getting sick or injuring myself! I have also found a website that I love for helping me keep my eating in check. It's http://www.myfooddiary.com It's $9 a month but worth it to me! I mainly do the South Beach diet (good carbs/ good fats/ lean proteins/ veggies/ fruits) but I also like to keep track of how many cals/ fat/ carbs/ protein that I eat.

I'm also a scale junkie & it can be hard not to focus on it, but it really isn't always accurate to measure your results. Do you take youre measurements? How do your clothes fit?

((HUGS)) & hope you're feeling back to yourself tomorrow!
