Rotation/ ideas for slimming lower body

Hello everyone! I've read a couple posts on here that are similar to what I'm asking, but mines a little different. I'm about 5'2 and 120. I do both cardio and strength 6 times a week. I have very muscular arms because when I use weights I build muscle very quit for a female! My lower body is where I struggle, my thighs and hip area is where I store any fat and I'm very conflicted on how to get rid of it. I've read that I should lift heavy, but then read the opposite. Right now I'm not doing "leg days" with weights, I've been afraid too since I'm already bigger there... I run, cycle and do kickboxing.. Ideas please!!! I'd light a slim but muscular lower body :)) thanks in advance that anyone who can help! I'm trying to come up with a rotation but don't know which direction to go and everyone says something different :/

I know this isn't going to sound like much help, but I really think you just have to try lower body lifting to see what it does for you. I've read women here say it either helped or didn't help them, so it seems it's really about how it affects your body. Which you won't know until you try it.

I personally don't 'bulk up', so for me lifting tones and shapes my body. I never used to do isolated leg days before this year. I just didn't understand the point. Now that I do them I love them :) The strength and shape they give my legs is very nice

Thanks Toni

Thank you, it is a help!! My mom said the same thing, everybody is different! I'm excited to try, I just know how fast my arms get big and don't want huge legs. Thanks again for the reply :)

I build muscle pretty quickly too. I have done all of Cathe's lower body workouts (and total body workouts) and have had no problems with my legs bulking. However, I am now doing STS. I did 1RM before I started it so I am lifting heavier than I ever have. By the end of Meso 1 I was squatting with two 45 pound dumbbells. And my thighs blew up. I am in Meso 2 and am now only using 1RM for upper body workouts. I reduced the weight I am using for the Leg workouts.

This is just my experience. Prior to STS I was squatting with 55 pound barbell. It wasn't until I started squatting super heavy that they got bigger. Don't get me wrong. I am impressed with my results--I am definitely much stronger. But thicker thighs is not what I was going for.

I have heard a lot of impressive things about doing Cathe's Low Impact Series rotation (http://cathe.com/forum/f100/nov-2011-low-impact-series-rotation-286176/). Lots of people have said that rotation really leaned them out--their legs in particular. I have done all the LIS workouts, but not in the rotation format. Once I finish STS I plan to do her March 2013 All Low Impact rotation. It uses LIS and a bunch of other workouts. http://cathe.com/forum/f100/march-2013-rotation-292543/

Try the XTRAIN 30 Day Cardio/Strength Rotation!!!! That's a real lower body whittler!!! LOTS of cardio, 2 dedicated leg days, and one upper body part weight training per day. I just finished it and am going to try to design another rotation with a similar strategy....

I am more of an apple shape, however, today I did Lower Body Blast for the first time in quite a while. I forgot what a killer it was! I think doing this DVD a couple of times a week would surely lean out your lower body and make for great looking legs and glutes. :D

I too have a pear shape, and have found plyo has done wonders for slimming my hips and thighs. I only do Cathe workouts. I completed the XTrain 90 day rotation back in April and I am loving the results for my lower body. Now I'm just mixing up Hiit workouts 3x week along with one day for upper body and two days of lower body work. This is really working to slim down my hips and thighs. Also, you can't deny the power of clean eating. Sugar really is so bad when trying to reduce.
Give plyo a try. Tabatacise has drastically changed my lower body for the better.

Thank you everyone!! I have a better idea of what I'm going to do now :)) the power of clean eating is right!!! Sugar is my biggest problem!

Hi Natalieg,

These Cathletes are right on target! I also completed the XTrain's 90 day Undulating Rotation in May and went straight into Cathe's Feb 2011 Rock Bottom rotation. Both theses rotations helped slim and tone my lower body as well as my overall physique. I am very pleased with the results. In both rotations, I inserted the 100 Hip Thrust Challenge in place of the 2nd workout or as an addition to the main workout of the day.
I also ate as clean as possible and eliminated all white & whole wheat bread. I'm 5'1 and weighted 122 lbs before I started the Xtrain rotation. Now I weight 119 lbs but I'm a smaller dress size.

If you are looking for a killer lower body rotation check out http://cathe.com/forum/f100/feb-2011-rock-bottoms-rotation-281088/ It is very time consuming, but I had great results. You could even just incorporate the BBW (bonus) into your current workouts.

HOKEY SMOKES!!!! I don't know how I managed to miss this rotation! It looks TOTALLY KILLER!!!!! I've read about people tacking on the BBW on to their regular workouts, but didn't really know what it was....YIKES!!!! If this rotation doesn't give you glutes that you could crack a walnut between, I don;t know what will!!!:p

Could not agree more with you Nanbo! This sounds a killer. It is super intense. I am planning to start this rotation in about two weeks and I can tell you that my thighs are quivering just thinking. :D:D:D

Well I am expecting to crack a walnut between lol:D:D:D and possibly be able to keep boys away from the "newly acquired walnut cracker":D

To reply to the thread:

consistent regular cardio plus both light and heavy lifting has worked for me!
Hiit plus plyo have both worked wonder!;););)

Not sure if it's a good idea but I want do it for two months!:D:D:D
Wish me good luck.

I finished 90day XTrain last week, and went straight into the 'walnut cracker';) I don't have all the dvds, so am making some subs (Xtrain legs etc). It is amazing - I was nervous starting, cos I'd heard it was tough. Don't let that stop you - it's do-able. I just walk like John Wayne now...

How is that even possible to do 300 lunges? I'd lose count!! That is a workout itself !!! I'd love to try but I am not this advanced!! I wish there was one designed like thus but for more int/adv to get us ready to do this lol

I know! I was hoping that Cathe would re-do this one to incorporate the newest workouts as well as make it less time consuming.

Me too! A new version with the latest workouts would be fantastic LIS & XTRAIN series under an hour. That would be a dream!

Under an hour would be so great! I did this one once and it was HARD! I am not really a morning work out person, but on those double days I did get up and do one and did the other in the evening. I also did the walking lunges in my backyard. With extra special attention being paid to any presents left by the dog.

I can sense an update of "The Feb 2011 Rock bottom aka walnut cracker rotation" when the upcoming "Great Glute" get released:eek::cool:

Here is the link Great Glutes DVD

I must confess I am very excited to see what cathe has in store for us lol:D:D
