Romance Novels

I'm looking for some new romance novels. I need an escape from the real world! I enjoy novels by writers such as Kristin Hannah, Barbara Delinsky, Elizabeth Berg, Nicholas Sparks, and Danielle Steel (tough to admit that last one!) I don't like historical romance or any novel with a setting other than current America. I've tried, and didn't enjoy, books by Jennifer Weiner, Jane Green, and Sophie Kinsella. Although these would probably fit better in the "chick lit." category.

Any suggestions on what to pick up next?

I just wanted to say I love Elizabeth Berg and Nicholas Sparks. I just got finished reading At First Sight by Nicholas Sparks. That one was so sad. I may have to check out the other two that you listed if they are anything like Berg or Sparks.

Susan Elizabeth Phillips

Joan Johnston

Just wanted to pop in here to say that I love Julie Garwood! Her recent books are modern day, her older stuff is historical. (But those are my Favorites!!)

Also, I like Linda Lael Miller.

I second or third Nora Roberts, and also try Sandra Brown is another good one. The one I like the best of hers is Mirror Image.

Laurie

Catherine Anderson!

Her novels always feature "less perfect" characters you can relate to and most of the newer ones are set in modern day.

I want to read that book, "Skinny Dip". It sounds great! I checked it out at the library, but then never got around to reading it. Too busy!

I have a suggestion, but I wouldn't say it's "romance". I've done a lot of reading, and enjoy the good Danielle Steele romance-type books as well as the next person, but something persuaded me to try a Fantasy genre novel a year ago and WOW! Has that ever STUCK! I can't get enough of the Fantasy genre now. Talk about taking you to another world! And if you find the right book, you get romance, too!

My first series was the Winds of the Forelands series by David Coe (the final installment comes out in February and I've already got it pre-ordered). Now I'm reading the George R.R. Martin series, "A Song of Ice and Fire". That one's a little complicated, but VERY enjoyable and engaging once you get into it.

Sometimes I like going to the library to browse the new arrivals and random books by authors I've come to like. I find some real gems that way...it's how I discovered the Fantasy genre and the David Coe novels, as a matter of fact!

Happy reading!

Jennifer Cruisie (Welcome to Temptation, etc)

Susan Elizabeth Phillips (Aint she Sweet?, etc)

Judith McNaught, one of my personal faves, (Perfect, Paradise, Someone to watch Over me, etc)

Christine Feehan, all her "Dark ...." series about the Carpathians

Katie Macalister (Men in Kilts, etc, especially her paranormal romances, the Aisling Grey series), very funny,

And there are loads more....

Clare

Catherine Anderson is good, so is catherine Coulter with her Sherbrooke series, although these are historical, sorry! But well worth the read, Coulter is hilarious.

What about Judith Krantz? I really like her books. Jackie Collins. I have read everything from her she needs to put a new one out! Is she romance though? Hmmm maybe not but I like her. Janet Evanovitch is also great.
