Does anyone here roller blade? I used to back in the day when they were "in" but have not since and that was many eons ago. Can anyone reccomend a brand?

We have an outdoor rink at our house. Haven't used it since before winter and all the rain. As far as brands.... I think the most important thing is to get a pair that fits well and is comfortable. Do you have access to a store with multiple brands to try?

Skating is so much fun it's therapeutic... have fun!

Unfortunately I live in the middle of po dunk no where so I'll have to order online. I bought a pair for my daughter at Target which are fine for her since she's 7 she doesn't need a fancy pair since her feet are still growing but I'd like to own a pair that will last a good long time. What kind do you have?
Rinks are SOOO much fun. I remember skating in an indoor rink when I was a kid.

I rollerblade with my dogs, well, with 3 of them because the others think it is hilarious to cut in front of me and trip me when I don't expect it.:eek:

I can't rollerblade on those inline skates, I tried it, let's just say it wasn't pretty and I would like stay without broken bones  These are the ones that I use. http://www.landroller.com/store/

I found my landrollers on ebay, they were brandnew and at a pretty decent price. I was looking for a couple of months on ebay and craigslist because I was not willing to pay over $ 200 for a pair of rollerblades. Now that I have had them for a while, I really like them. Particularly that it tires the dogs out really fast when I have them pull me :D

I love to inline skate. We have great paved trails here in West Michigan. I have K2 inline skates. I've had these for years but do periodically rotate the wheels and clean the bearings. I'm selling a pair of Rollerblade (brand), too. I've had good luck with both.

Have fun! It's a great workout!

I like the IDEA of rollerblading but after my terrifying experience on rollerskates at my DDs birthday party last year, I am staying FAR AWAY!!

Hi there! I want to eventually rollerblade with my dog. He's only a little over 4 months old so we don't run with him and he still needs way more training on the lead but that would be my goal. Georgie is ALL muscle and has SO much energy. He just weighed in at 35 lbs during his last vet visit so I thought I could get back into roller blading.
I couldn't believe how much women's roller blades are nowadays! I'll go check out the Landrollers, . . are they good for the road? I know that some are good only for rinks.

I have a pair of K2's in my Zappos shopping cart. I've read these are pretty good for the road or paved trails. Thanks

Janie.... mine are sooooo old! Acquired when Rollerblade was the only company making them. I guess I can say they've held up well! (and I'm probably due for a new pair)

Those Land Rollers are Cool!

I like to rollerblade too, but I only get around to it a couple of times a year. I think I'd like to try Land Rollers, they seem awesome!

Carola!! Holy Moly those are the roller blades Cesar (Dog Wisperer) wears. They seem so strange. Are they easy to turn? They are expensive!

They are the same company. They are very different than the inline skates, I can not skate on the inline skates if my life depended on it. These skates are set down a little bit so the center of gravity is lower making it a lot more stabil than inline skates.

I did see them on the Dog Whisperer show a few years ago and always wanted to get them but they were expensive. I don't remember exactly how much I paid but I think it was right around $ 100 and they were brandnew. The seller got it as a present and never used them. Lucky me  I just kept checking ebay and craigslist and it didn't take very long to find this pair

They are pretty easy to manoever. I absolutely love them!

My dogs are herding dogs, high energy and I can't run 5 to 10 miles every day to tire them out, so those skates are a life saver. On the inline skates i would probably last a few yards before I crash into someone's front yard or break my arms, legs or any other bones in my body.

Carola, . . I'm a bit of an unlucky clutz on wheels or no wheels. I've already been hit by a car while running, and I was even hit by a car when I was roller blading in the 90's so the chances are good that it won't happen again, . . .maybe  How did your dogs react to you roller blading? Any tips? It will be a while before I get to that point but I want to feel comfortable enough on a pair of roller blades before I even think of taking Georgie (my dog) out. I figure a few months.

Almost Forgot

My first and only ever blog entry was about this very subject! I called it "Do Something Different Everyday" in honor of STS on 6-17-09.

Ohh- roller blading! How I miss it! We live in a very hilly area with snow, ice, sand, rocks for much of the year. I see them in the garage with a longing of fun days in the past!

Thanks for the memories!

Janie,
I used to love rollerblading with my dog in college. When I had only one, I actually taught her to heel behind me because we rollerbladed on a railtrail and couldn't take up the whole trail. That also eliminated the problem of her cutting in front of me or pulling me. I actually like to rollerblade with the dog on a loose leash rather than letting them pull me. I have a difficult time stopping or turning if they are pulling. As big and powerful as Georgie is going to be, you might think about that as an option.

Ooh, oooh, Mr. Kotter, Mr. Kotter! (Hope I'm not the only one who remembers that!)

Yes! I stil rollerblade! It's still very popular up here! I have Landrollers! They are weird looking, but I love them! They have big, thin wheels that are angled. You never have to replace them (unless you just demolish them in an accident) and there are no bearings that you have to clean or replace! They can run on pavement and grass, gravel and won't catch on uneven pavement. I haven't been on mine in a while, but intend to get out there this summer!

Yeah Lisa, . . hey how are you? I was hoping you'd chime in! I was thinking loose leash, . .I don't want to allow him to be in the drivers seat he's sorta a maverick. The more I think of it I should have named him Maverick instead. What kind of rollerblades did you have? When I used to rollerblade in the 90's Rollerblade was the only name brand out there. Now it seems like there is not much of a choice and they are either really cheap or really expensive which makes me wonder about the quality. Either really good or really bad. :( Being that it HAS been a while and I'm no longer a spring chicken I plan on practicing quite a bit till I feel comfortable. :)
