Roller Blades?

Ooh, oooh, Mr. Kotter, Mr. Kotter! (Hope I'm not the only one who remembers that!)

Yes! I stil rollerblade! It's still very popular up here! I have Landrollers! They are weird looking, but I love them! They have big, thin wheels that are angled. You never have to replace them (unless you just demolish them in an accident) and there are no bearings that you have to clean or replace! They can run on pavement and grass, gravel and won't catch on uneven pavement. I haven't been on mine in a while, but intend to get out there this summer!

Oh no I remember Mr. Kotter!

Grass? Gravel? Really? Blast, . . looks like I'm going to have to scour Ebay, . . .I hate Ebay. I've been burned on Ebay before so I'm always kinda scared to buy anything that I don't expect to be a fake. That is why I always buy my Cathe DVD's here. Tricia did you buy them online? What are the sizes like?

Janie, wheels and I are like two different worlds clash but it was pretty easy to get around on these. I started out on my own without dogs, actually just going down my hallways (I have pergo flooring) so nobody would watch me embarrass myself

I then went out on the street without dog, then took 1 dog and kept adding dogs as I became more confident. However, my dogs are pretty good on a leash in general though I can't take Jack and Shiloh together they chase each other, cutting in front of me (interestingly enough they don't do it when I run with them). Each one of them by themselves is fine but the two together and rollerskating is a disaster.

They usually run next to me but will start running in front of me and pull me (almost like sleddogs :p) when I give them the "go" command. Although my kids are much better at that than I am. As you have noted Georgie is only 4 months so he won't be ready for another 8 to 12 months and you need to work on his leash walking skills and be pretty confident that you can control him because otherwise it will be an accident waiting to happen. Just be patient! You will get there!

My DH gave them to me for Christmas one year because I needed a new pair anyway and, as usual, I wanted something different and found these. I'll have to look to see what size they are, but they're super comfortable.

I'll PM you about sizing. They're stuffed in my closet upstairs right now! Yes, I cleaned this past weekend and straightened out my closet!

If I don't send you a note by tomorrow evening, PM me and yell. I tend to forget things - darn this over 40 brain! :p

Landrollers sound cool! I can vouch for the Rollerblade and K2 line of skates.
I love to blade although it can be tough on my lower back. Rollerhockey with my youngest son is a blast.

Dang it, . . .Carola and Tricia I want those gosh darn Land Rollers as freakish as they look they seem really cooool. After much reseach it just seems like you either pay very little for a pair of roller blades that are probably not the best quality or you end up paying more for a pair of life long lasting quality. No in betweens, . . which stinks! I love that the wheels can skate on grass and dirt! I remember with my old pair of Roller Blades I would just fall when small pebbles got stuck. K2's are about $150 which heck is pretty much so close to $200. To bad I didn't save my 1980's over the ankle,4 wheel blue with the red stripe pair, . .with the gigantor stopper in the front, . . of course my foot was a kids size 3 back then. :(

Janie,
I actually don't know much about the different brands but the landrollers sound pretty cool. I was given a pair by a friend in the late 90s and have never updated them . I haven't had a good place to rollerblade in the last 5-6 years so I'll defer to others on that topic.

I'm doing okay, I'm on spring break - yay! How's Georgie doing?

Yeah Spring Break! Hope you get to go somewhere and do something fun! Seems early though? My kids don't have spring break till the last week of March.

Yeah the one and only pair of roller blades I owned were by Roller Blade and that was during the 90's, . . .when very large hair and blazers (Miami Vice) was still in style. They were deffinitely NOT state of the art.

Georgie is growing REALLY big. He's now 36 lbs! He came up positive for round worms. Ugh! I was MORTIFIED! It was the yuckiest thing I had ever seen in my life, . . and with 2 kids I've been vomited on and pooped on plenty, . . I've seen plenty of gross stuff. Thankfully I think he's pooped them all out he's been on Iverhart (heart worm meds) for over a month but we're keeping him away from other dogs and we are deffinitely pooper picker upers (I hate when people don't pick up after their dogs). Thanks so much for asking. Here is his pic again.

By the way your doggie avatar is precious, . . a face anyone would love!!

Those landrollers do look really cool. I want a pair, but my husband thinks since I'm used to in-line, I wouldn't like them. He's pushing me to rent them somewhere first, which is probably a good idea. Anyone have them who used to be a rollerblader???

I used to rollerblade with regular rollerblades before I got my Landrollers. I really didn't notice much of a difference. I love them and have no regrets about switching!

That would be GREAT if I could rent them first. I live in the middle of po dunk no where so I'll deffinitely have to buy them if I decide. Try them out around the house. From what I've read and seen they just ride smoother than Roller Blades but I could be wrong and they ride on dirt, gravel, and grass of all things. When I used to in-line there was not much to choose from and they deffinitely were not smooth on the road. If you rent them could you post your review? I'm getting really trigger happy wanting to order them but they are a lot of money!

Janie,
Yes, our spring break is very early. I went to Hatteras and have had a great week. I think I needed a break more than my students did :eek:.

I still break out my old rollerblades when I go home to visit my parents or travel somewhere with a good railtrail. It's such great exercise. I hope you find something that works well for you.

Georgie is getting big and handsome! He's going to be a gorgeous boy. Ick on the roundworms, not fun. Hope they are all gone by now.

Thanks for the compliment! That's Nellie, my oldest. She has taught me so much and means so much to me. I uploaded some pics of the crew to my profile if you want to check them out.

Thanks, Tricia!

Janie, I will try to rent.... I just laughed at my husband because between my job, the kids, and where we live, I cannot see myself having an easy time renting, either. The kids are gung ho to try though, so maybe we will head up to San Francisco some weekend soon -- they're bound to have them for rent near Golden Gate park.
