Roasting turkeys in electric roaster ovens

Have you ever done this? If so, how did it turn out and what was your overall comments on doing it again?

Thanks

We did this once years ago for a work celebration and it was very juicy. I don't recall if it browned on the outside, otherwise I wouldn't be afraid to make it that way. Funny you ask, because I'm only making a turkey breast and considering doing it in my crock pot to make more room in the oven. Was just reading reviews!

It's just DH and me for Thanksgiving this year, so I'm going to do a turkey breast in the crockpot. I've done this recipe a couple times, and it's pretty good.

My sister does this when she hosts at her house...comes out great, but doesn't brown fully (I think the top browns some, but not the legs or sides...you'd have to pop it in the oven for that. We don't do the traditional presentation of the turkey and carving at the table, so less than perfect browning isn't an issue for us.

Happy Thanksgiving!

My mother-in-law, made her turkey in the electric roaster last year, I think. i don't recall if she browned it in the oven also, but it wa juicy. although, none of my household are that big of fans of turkey, so I have just a little turkey breast. i'm going to try to cook it in my toaster oven. My oven only has 1 mode, broil, read-burnt, lol. So If the toster oven doesn't work i'll be cooking it on the stove. i've made everything in that little toaster oven. this is where I do my dance and sing about how I only paid 10 bucks, and have saved so much money with it. This is 1 day it would be nice to have an oven. I won't be making a big meal for my little family, so it's not a big deal for me.

I was kinda disappointed in the electric roaster - and I had the convection lid for it (it was just a lid with a fan...). It took soooooo much longer than advertised and threw off my entire dinner. It went to the Goodwill shortly after that. :p

I love my gas stove - it's one of the first double ovens in a drop in so I can pop the turkey in the big part and then use the electric lower oven to do my sweet potatoes and other things. Then when the turkey comes out and rests, I crank up and do my biscuits. :D

Yes, yes I am a time control freak on this holiday... I like it all hot, and all done at the same time. :D:D

I've never done it in a toaster oven. But, if you have a stove top, you could make it in a pressure cooker. It won't be brown, but it would be juicy. I wonder if you could take a small torch (like doing a creme brulee) and just brown the top that way.

Not worried about the browning, but now I've ditched that plan anyway. we seem to all be starting to get sick, so I'm going to make soup with biscuit dumplings. yum. we can have our traditional dinner at the in-laws, which I'm much closer to than my actual blood family.

Mine is in the crock pot!

How did that turn out with the whole bird? I threw the carcass (no skin) in the crock pot last night with some water/celery/onion/carrot and had wonderfully dark, rich broth when I woke up - and the entire house smelled like Thanksgiving again :p Honestly, I tried it because I didn't have room in the fridge to store the carcass overnight to do it on the stove today.... It is the way I will be doing stock from now on, though.

My 13.68 pound turkey came out great in the electric roaster.

cooked it on 450 for 20 minutes to get it to brown, then dropped the temp down to 375. It was done in 2.5 hours and was delicious. I kept picking at it altho the recipe said not to do this. I did put a little water in it while it was at 450, but after I turned it down, it self basted and had lots of good juice on the bottom. I seasoned it with kosher salt and pepper inside and out. On the inside I put a cut up onion, a clove of garlic and lots of different herbs.

Perfectly roasted turkey. Thanks for your suggestions and comments.
