Risking getting booted off the forum ................

Cathlete
for mentioning anything but the Original Health Club Step. I have a question about steps. I know Cathe uses the Original Health club step and the super step I think in weight tapes. I need critique on the Reebok Step long one and the Original health club step. I am looking at purchasing a longer step and need advice. The only thing I see with the 2 is one is slightly longer than the other and the Reebok goes to 10 in. whereas the Original only goes to 8 in. For use as both a step bench and a weight bench I really need it to be higher than 8 in. I am 5ft 7 and already put a potty seat/step stool on top of my step for seated exercises. What would be my best option and I don't want to spend a fortune either.;) :+

Thanks

I have the Original Step and, with the arrival of the new Mini Step, I have 14 risers. You can order extra risers off the internet fairly reasonabley but there's no good reason you shouldn't order the Reebok Step if it meets your requirements. Reebok has good products and, while I don't own one, I have seen it in videos and it looks comparable to The Original Step.

RE: Risking getting booted off the forum .................

Hi Annette-

I've never used the Orginal Club step, so I can't comment on it. I do have the Reebok step though and I love it! I think it may be shorter in length, but only by a couple of inches and I always have plenty of room when doing all of Cathe's videos. It is nice that it goes to 10 inches, but that's all it will ever do. If you wanted to go higher than 10 using your step as a weight bench, you could always buy more risers for The Step, whereas the Reebok step only has 2 interlocking pieces that turn to various positions for the 6, 8 or 10 inch height.

A nice feature of the Reebok step is that you can pick it up and carry it as one item with the pieces attached. As I understand it, the risers don't "lock into" The health club step.

Whatever you decide, you won't be sorry. That extra length will make a world of difference!

I once worked at a gym that only had the Reebok steps and I really didn't like them. The seemed to wobble, like a table missing a foot on one of the legs (did that make any sense?)
I agree with Bobbi - you can order extra risers and make your original step as high as you need.

Hi Annette,

IMHO you should go with the Original Step. The Reebok one does go to 10 inches but I've never seen any additional risers for it. The Original Step can get as high as you need it to be...you just need extra risers. Plus the Original Step is pretty inexpensive: Walmart.com as it for just under $58 and Cathe sells a pair of extra risers for under $11. I've seen the Original Step on sale at local sporting goods stores for a even less. Plus if you ever want to get the high step you would just have to get the topper because you'd already have the risers.

RE: Risking getting booted off the forum .................

I started off with the Reebok step and used it for about 7 years. A couple of months ago, I got the Original Club Step and I have to say I like things about both of them. As mentioned above, being able to pick up the whole Reebok unit verus the top and the risers. I like the Original Club Step because now when I use it as a bench, I can put my feet up. The Reebok step was just short enough to make that uncomfortable (and I'm 5'3"). I love the Original Club Step because using it in conjunction with the high step is just so much easier. Also, the Club step, if you step on the corner of it just wrong, will kind of flip up on you. I never had that problem with the Reebok. So, yes there are pros and cons to both, but overall, I'm glad I got the Club step. Just my 2 cents!

RE: Risking getting booted off the forum .................

Hi Annette :)

I also have both and started with the Reebok. Two years ago my husband got me the Club Step from ebay. I put velcro on the Club Step and it stays together as one unit now. I feel I work out a little more with the Club Step because it is longer and I really felt the difference when I started using it. The Reebok step is just too short when I use it as a weight bench, the Club is much more comfortable. I use the two together to go up to 18" when doing sit and stands or 14" or 16" when doing other leg exercises. I've never had a problem with my Club step flipping or moving, but that may be due to the velcro.

Years ago I used 10" for stepping but I always use 6" now and have not had any more ankle and knee aches.

Good luck in choosing....just my humble opinion.

Another vote for the Original Step, my Reebok Step broke after a few years, it didn't really break but one corner had a piece chip off underneath and it wobbled like crazy after that. What a great excuse to go buy the big step!

RE: Risking getting booted off the forum .................

My first step was the Reebok step and after about a year I got the Original Step. They are very close in length. I store them one on top of the other and they are about the same length on the bottom, but the Reebok angles in a bit at the top.

I find the Reebok more solid on my hardwood floor. The other step shifts and wiggles a bit. If you have a different kind of flooring, that may not happen.

Unless I'm trying something new and want to use the 4" height of the Original, I find that I prefer to use the Reebok.

This is just my experience...

My Reebok step has been sitting in a closet for about 10 years!! When I first started doing Cathe, I found I didn't like the Reebok step for her workouts (it was too short), and bought the original Step she uses in her workouts. I also now have the High Step. I love them both!! In my humble opinion, the Original Health Club Step is better. I bought a couple of extra risers when I bought the High Step topper, and I just put them under the long step to use it as a weight bench. I'm short, and right now I don't do step routines with my step higher than 6 inches. One day I hope to raise it to 8 inches, but I can't see myself ever doing all that stepping on 10 inches. Maybe very tall people could, but it seems like it would be a lot of stress on the knees for someone my size. Just my opinion, of course!!

I have both the Reebok and the club step. I'm short so I like the Reebok step for over the top moves.

I'm unhappy because I broke one of the risers for my reebok step and called Reebok. I cannot order another riser, you have to buy the whole system.

RE: Risking getting booted off the forum .................

Reebok step is all one piece and adjusts from 6 to 8 to 10 inches. And is slightly shorter than the Original Step. The Orginal Step is slightly longer and only goes from 4,6 and 8 inches in height. It has the step portion and comes with 2 sets of risers which are not connected to the step as with the Reebok. You can buy extra risers for the Original step where you can't with the Reebok.

Hope that helps some

I use the longer Reebok step. The newer model. I wish I got the older model (same brand) because when I move the step it doesn't lock in well. I don't fall off when using it, but it's a pain to move around when I need it. I bought it at Sports Authority on sale a few years back for like $79. or something like that.
