Registry for kids birthday party?

Wow, that is something! I have never heard of a gift registery for a child before.

I am such a cheapie, that every year I had my kids birthday's at their school. I just took cupcakes and snacks. Plus all their friends were at school and I didn't have to clean or spend money have a party out.

Then we took our kids to their favorite restaurant to eat. I had several beers and it was done.

My DD just turned 7 and she had her first ever "school" party. She invited all the girls from her class, three friends from the other class. All together we had 12 girls at a pottery party that wound up costing me $250! BUT, my daughter knew that the party was in lieu of an actual present from my DH and me, and that this was not happening every year. Yes, she loved being the center of attention and having her day, but I do think that parents are getting totally out of control with the bigger is better and outdoing every other party that they've gone to in the past!

The registry is just obnoxious! I haven't experienced that one yet and hope it never happens!

Totally agree that it's crazy. When my boys 7 and 10 have parties, we meet at parks and ask that families (we don't just invite kids) bring a dish to pass in lieu of a gift. It works very well and my kids don't end up with stuff they don't really need.

I agree that that is presumptuous and obnoxious. After all in theory when you receive an invitation to a party or event it is requesting your company at an event not your company and wallet. I guess they are normal for something like a wedding but it seems silly for a kids birthday party. Especially since most kids seem to be happy as long as they get something fun to play with. Worst case scenario the parent could always wrap a gift receipt with the present.

I've never heard of a kids registry for their bday!!!! That's just ridiculous. I usually ask the parents what type of things their child likes, buy a gift and stick a gift receipt in the card. I would NEVER register gifts for my kids!!! They should be thankful for every gift that they get!! I just can not stand when kids do not use their manners. My kids know better, but unfortunately that is not the case very much anymore. (I'd say that apple doesn't fall far from the tree, I wonder if their parents registered for everything under the sun for their wedding? :p)
