maybe all TMs are different. if mine is at 10.0, then i am doing a 6 minute mile (i only do those speeds for hiit) but 10.0 would correspond to a 6 minute mile. 6.0 on my TM is a 10 minute mile.
my warm up speed is 6.5 (but that's because i use iTread and do what grace tells me) and i am comfortable running at 7.2-7.5 for steady state.
the bottom line is, DON'T worry about what anyone runs at or what your settings or anyone else's are. just go by how you feel. if you can take it up, then do! if you run for, say 20 minutes, look at your total mileage then put your time and mileage into a pace calculator and you will get an idea of the settings along with your pace.
i am reading chi running by danny dryer right now (and even highlighting it...yes, i'm a geek) and it is REALLY changing how i think about running. i highly recommend it.
