Question about Imax 3

Cathlete
I recently developed plantar fasciitis and have had to stay
away from all cardio exercise for a couple of months. My foot
is hopefully getting better, but I'm wondering if I'll ever be
able to do high impact again. Right before my foot got really
bad, I ordered and received Imax 3 from Collage Video. I never
got to try it, and I know it's really high impact. For those of
you who have had plantar fasciitis, do you think I should return
Imax 3 and get credit from Collage to order another dvd? I'd hate
to do this to my foot again and not be able to exercise at all. I'm
thinking I'll just have to do mostly lower impact. What's your
opinion on this? Is Imax 3 easily able to be modified into
low impact?

Thanks for your help!
Valerie

You could always just do the combos and not the high impact but if it were me, I think I would return it and get something that I would enjoy totally, instead of having the hassle in modifying things. Im sure there are parts in the workout that you can modify but your not getting the "point" of the workout when you don't do the high imoat. Why not get Low Impact Cardio in its place? Do you have that one? Or Low Max. These are great workouts, low impact but will get your heart rate up.

So sorry, Valerie! I would be pretty bummed.
I would keep Imax 3. Yes, the blasts are high impact but the step portion isn't so bad (if memory serves) and that alone is so much fun it's worth the purchase.

Best wishes in your recovery!

Hi Valerie - I have to avoid high impact, too. I've had Imax 3 for a long time though, and I'm not about to stop using it! I've figured out various modifications for the blasts, and I'm still working on refining them. What I've found is that my modifications turn it into an excellent mid-to-high level steady state cardio workout, and it's lots of fun. I also have an elliptical trainer, so if I really want the cardio blasts, I jump on the elliptical and pedal as hard as I can.

I'd say, try to modify a time or two, and if you don't like it, then return it. Would the return policy give you enough time for that?

I also have Plantar Fasciitis and I ended up trading IMAX 3 away. It just wasn't worth the pain. You'll have to be careful of really high impact, even when you are feeling better, because PF can always come back (trust me). I found IMAX 3 too much impact to modify and still keep the workout fun. Now, IMAX 3 is the only Cathe workout that I felt I'd be better off avoiding. I still do some high impact workouts, just not this one. Just be sure to stretch your calves thoroughly before and after the workout. Also, ice your feet afterwards; it does help.

Good luck!

Thanks so much for the replies, ladies! I will have to stick to lower impact cardio from now on. I may try to modify Imax 3, since
I've probably waited too long to return it, anyway. Plus, I have all
of Cathe's other cardio workouts, including Low Impact Circuit and Low Max, and I'll try those once my foot heals. For those who have had plantar fasciitis, how long did it take yours to heal? I really
miss my step workouts!:( Thanks again for your help, and have a
great day.

My husband had a bad case of PF. We put him in a boot every night. He got a apir of Crocs and it healed quickly. It's the only shoe he will wear. And the PF hasn't returned!

I had it really bad for almost a year. I had two cortisone injections (about six months apart) and it's been under control since the second shot. I've since cut back on really high impact workouts and I make sure I keep my calves stretched. Also, the most important thing for me is to have arch supports in my sneakers. Arch supports cut the pain in half almost immediately.

The plus side of PF is that I discovered spinning and Cardio Coach. These days I do a lot of Cardio Coach on the bike or elliptical...no impact, but very intense. The biggest PF problem for me, on the other hand, is the fear of the pain coming back. It really keeps me away from doing some of my favorite workouts (like IMAX 2, for example). I've got to get over it, though, because I did order Cathe's new series and I want to be able to use the higher impact ones.

Take Care,
Shelbygirl

Shelbygirl, I feel the same way you do about the fear of plantar fasciitis coming back. Mine is not healed yet, but I'm already worrying about when/if it comes back in the future. Also, I am curtailing all cardio right now, but I love Imax 2 and other high impact workouts and am afraid I'll never be able to enjoy that certain rush from high intensity again. I ordered the new series and am hoping I can use it. I may have to give Cardio Coach a try soon. Thanks again for the advice. I hope your pf never comes back again!

Valerie

I too have had PF. First, it's really important to let it heal. But I am able to do high impact, with a few modifications. I always tape my foot, mix high impact with low on other days so I only do high maybe 2x/week. I also have a rebounder that I use for the really high impact stuff. I just set it in front of my step and when I want to use it, jump on and away I go:)
