I, too, hate when more pets are brought into the world even as millions of unwanted pets are euthanized for want of good homes. The previous poster who stated you shouldn't have had to explain Sheila's story was right but animal issues are... emotional, especially for those of us who have to chronically wrestle with how to deal with the newest unwanted strays on our front porches. There's always a new batch of kittens running into the streets of my neighborhood because people move and leave their unneutered pets behind to breed out of control. The cat population in my neighborhood has always been an issue but, with this economy, dogs are becoming the new problem. About a month ago I looked out an upstairs window and saw two skinny dogs playing tug-of-war with what looked like a turkey carcass in the alley. Living in a really poor neighborhood, I've seen things people in the suburbs can't imagine. The problem is so much worse than the average American realizes. Compassion exhaustion has become a reality for me now.
Needless to say, I wish all intentional breeding could be stopped immediately because, like the posters who work the front lines know, it's just not responsible as long as millions of wonderful but unwanted pets are being euthanized. So, though Bubachick owes nobody an explanation I have to say that reading Shelia's story has been a real relief.
Bubbachick, You and your husband are angels with golden hearts to give one poor dog in a desperate situation a happy ending. I love stories like this.
