PUB-sore hands

Cathe -

Please give me your opinion/advice about this problem.

When doing the first round of exercises in PUB - the chest ones, I feel I'm not getting a real chest workout because my hands are so sore and burning and cramping, etc. from holding the weights for so long, I wind up using lighter weights than I know will be challenging to my chest muscles, just for the sake of my hands. Does that make sense?

What can I do to effectively work the chest muscles, which I KNOW can handle more weight than I use (10#, 12#, 15#), but I'm being wimpy because my of my hands.

This is the only time I have this type of problem doing your tapes. I don't get sore hands during the S&H tapes.

Thanks for you time.

Susan:

I just wanted to add that I felt exactly the same way after doing the PUB workout. I have no idea why it's happening...

FYI, I also always wear weightlifting gloves so that's definitely not the problem.

I use padded weightlifting gloves myself, as well. The pain is excruciating.

I am really interested to hear what Cathe has to say.

I too have the exact same problem. Even Cathe on the tape is shaking her hands out and she does say to stretch and take a few minutes to recoup. I've had to do just that because I'm using 12, 15 & 20s and I'm definitely NOT going to go down in weight. It helped a little but not much (stretching). Kathy:-(

Susan,

I have the same problem. The first few times I did the workout my hands hurt so bad I almost gave up! I, too, had to lower my weights to ( 10#, 12#, 15#). But if you listen well Cathe even says I bet your hands are glad that is done.

Each time I consciously try not to grip the weights too tight - it has gotten better - but they still cramp up. As you I have never had that problem ever before.

I am interested to see what Cathe says on that one.

Well, I'm relieved to hear I'm not the only one having this problem, not that I'm happy you have problems - LOL!

Here's a thought - why can't I just do this part of the workout with a barbell? Is the idea wih the dumbells to work the sides of the chest individually? What do you gain from using the dumbells that you lose by using the barbell?

The plot thickens...

Susan G.

a possible benefit to using dumbells rather than the barbell here could be that since we all have a stronger side, the barbell might allow your strongr side to do more of the work to get the bar up, so it's then harder to work the weaker side effectively, not to mention get it to handle more weight.

It's a possibility

After several workouts this problem may diminish. I don't have my DVDs yet but I'm interested to see what you're talking about. :)

I had sore hands the first few times I did PUB... but now that I've been doing it for a month, the soreness has gone away... I've even increased the weights a bit... just give it some time.. your wrists will get stronger

by the way.. how could you do the chest routine, particularly flies, with a barbell? it would be risky to go from dumbells to a barbell so quickly I would think

good luck!

Hi All! I would love to hear Cathe's response to this one as I also am having the same problems with my hands being sore almost to the point of falling asleep from lack of circulation with such heavy weights in the chest work of PUB.

My wrists are not the problem - it's my hands, especially through my thumbs and index and middle fingers.

Wow - I had the exact same experience. I just did PUB for the 1st time on Sat. and one of my hands started hurting pretty bad, right on the palm by the bottom of my thumb, then I started thinking that I wasn't going to work my chest hard enough because I wanted to lift heavier weights, but it hurt too much.

Just an FYI....I've done PUB now twice since that first time, and my hands aren't as sore....???

AND I absolutely LOVE this workout!!!
