PROGRESS NOT PERFECTION: Month 1

Evening Ladies :)

I had a uneventful day today, did not go to the gym Saturday nor today. I went and had my hair done by someone on Friday, the 1st time in 2 years. Needless to say I did not like it and it took me all day Saturday to take it down. I do not know what I am going to do with my natural afro texture hair. Before chemo, I had Sisterlocks and cut them out after 8 months of Chemo. Now that my hair is growning back, I do not know what to do with it. I would like to get my sisterlocks back but it is very costly to have them installed. I do not want to start something that I am going to have to pay someone to keep up.

I am scheduled to go back to the gym on Thursday and I am also schedule to do another 5K Saturday morning. It was 49 degrees in Vegas today and that was the high, this morning it was 26 or 29 degrees. If the weather is like this I may not do the 5K, can't afford to get sick.

See you all in the morning for coffee.
Deanna :)

Deanna, I had to google Sisterlocks. : ) That is quite a commitment. What are your natural low maintenance options? Sorry you didn't like your results from Fri. I am using Wen on my hair now and loving it since it has improved its quality, but it is expensive and out of my budget. I also have bangs that are too short right now... I've got a weird mullet redneck looking thing going on. : (

Keep up the good fight this week ladies, I am out of the race til Sat or Sun, after my finals are complete.

Stacy and Susan, hope you are back to healthy~

Morning Ladies :)

Fnv, my low maintenance options have been to twist my hair myself every week or two. I normally go on YouTube to get ideas on how to style my natural afro texture hair. Wearing my hair in twist means I have to wet it everyday, which would be okay if the temp was not in the 20's or 30's in the AM. Again, I can't afford to get sick.

Time to get ready for work, I hope you ladies have a great day. :)
Deanna

Good morning !!

Quick note... I have to take a quick shower and get my car to the auto place for regular service...

I am feeling sooooo much better this morning.... Back to normal I think/hope.

I'm not sure what I'll do for a workout this afternoon, but I'll do something.

Was good about food yesterday :)

FnV - good luck on your finals !!! I know you'll be happy to get them over with.

more later.......

We CAN do this... we ARE doing this !!!!

coffee greetings :::slurp:::

STS on sale for 149 today, fyi. - 40 percent off. I got hard core series a couple of days ago so I'm going to have duplicates of the gym styles and low max from hardcore series, isn't there a swap/sell board at VF?

My weigh in puts me back where I started a week ago, not surprised. Hectic schedule and no food planning. Its been a good week tho considering end of semester crazies : )

What workouts do you have planned today? Who is going to do mine for me? I think a circuit would be a good choice.

Do you all do FB? If so, do you want to be friends?

I'm off to conquer my little corner of the world- have a good one all~

Morning Ladies

I can't sleep and it is not time for me to get ready for work.

I have my gym bag packed to go after work. I also made another appointment for a PT at the gym, schedule for Thursday 12.15.11. I am going to ask the PT to show me how to use the Circut Training area.

Fnv, I use FB send me a friend invite at Deanna Hardin.

Going to try to go back to sleep, will check in later.

Good morning, and here I thought I was going to be first one here this morning!

Busy day yesterday, planned rest day. Eating wasnt great, had Burger King for dinner, but of course my weight is DOWN 0.4 lbs from Monday. Never ceases to amaze me. But, not getting into that train of thought! Going to try to slowly add fresh fruits and veggies, with my iBS, my stomach doesnt feel quite ready for that, but yes, it can tolerate a hamburger, again go figure! Now my hubby has this stomach bug so there hasnt been alot of shopping and food planning around here. I'm hoping by next week we'll both be back to normal!

I'm enjoying my coffee, I didnt sleep well. I think I'm just going to walk 2 miles on the treadmill and maybe a quick ab segment before work.

FnV...they do have a swap/trade area on VF, but not a sell, though I'm fairly sure ppl PM each other and actually do sell things, it's just not technically allowed on that forum. Good luck on your exams!! Maybe a quick BodyRock workout for you for your study break :)

Deanna...have fun at the gym! Is there a hair salon you can go to to get some inexpensive, low maintainance hair suggestions? OR, have you considered posting your hair question in Cathe's Open Forum? People post all kinds of things there!

Susan...how was weigh-in? I'm so glad to be back in the swing of things before the holidays. I just realized something....I had 2 holiday indulgences yesterday!!!!! Looks like it's 50 pushups and 100 crunches for me today after my 2 mile treadmill walk! I'll have to take some pauses with them for sure!!

Workout done!!

2 miles on the treadmill: moderate walk for 1/2 mile, alternating with slow jog for 1/2 mile, repeat

50 pushups (broken up into 2 sets of 15, then 2 sets of 10, 10 second rest btwn sets)

125 crunches (25 situps with legs in "froggy style position", 25 oblique crunches on the right, 25 reverse crunches for the lower abs, 25 oblique crunches on the left, finished with 25 bicycle crunches)

Good morning (well... just barely still morning here in NC... lol)

Weigh-in this morning... down 1/2 pound !!! My scale only does half pounds... no tenths.....

Not bad considering that I've had one good day with food and two so-so days.... and... have not been working out consistently.

I always have trouble this time of year. Not depression... just the winter blahs. The short days, cold weather, it gets dark sooooo early....

So my goal for the rest of December is just to make tiny bits of progress.

I always get my energy back come January 1st.... odd.. considering that it is still cold and dark and short days.... but there is something about starting a new year with a clean slate that really gets me pumped up.

soooooo.... for December....

I'm going to stop counting calories and focus instead on 3 healthy meals a day, at regularly scheduled times, with a small snack mid-afternoon (like a small handful of almonds or an apple).

And for workouts... I'm just going to do Something... Anything.... it doesn't matter what.. just as long as I move for one hour per day... could be a long walk around the neighborhood... or some stepless step in the living room... or an hour of moderately paced walking on the treadmill at the gym.... Something.. Anything....

Progress, not Perfection.

FnV - go get 'em on the Finals !! I have great confidence that you will do well.

Deanna - is this a rescheduled visit with the personal trainer? It sounds like you never had your first session....

Stacy - I'm still struggling with eating veggies. Fruit I'm okay on. I love fresh fruit and have 2 or 3 pieces every day without even thinking about it. Veggies? Not so much :p That will be my goal for the rest of the week - at least one veggie with lunch and one veggie with supper !!!

Have a great day my friends !!!

We CAN do this... we ARE doing this.

Progress, not Perfection

P.S. I don't do Facebook

Hello Susan,

Yes this is a rescedule from Saturday. I had a horrible experience with a hair stylist Friday night so I reschedule for the 15th of Decemer. :)

Susan, you may want to take a look at FB. I love the games and I am subscribed to several groups, it is fun.

Evening Ladies,

Just got in from the gym, my class was good we worked abs and upper body. I forgot my towel and my membership does not include towel service, but I was given one. After my class I asked about upgrading my membership, I was told for an additional $12 per month my membership would include towel service, 3 PT session the 1st month and 1 PT session there after for the duration of my membership and Body Fat calibration. Sounds good but my membership would go from $19.99 per month to $31 per month. I have to think about that, I was just interested in the towel service. lol I do not want to start something I am not going to use and pay more money for it.

The regular Instructor was there tonight, she was on vacation last week. She was very nice and skinny. I was told that she is a runner. She came over to me after class and said nice job. I did not tell her that I had been working out with Cathe Friedrich. :)

Okay, time to jump in the shower and then to bed. I will see you all for coffee in the AM.
Deanna

Good morning !!!

Just finishing up my coffee and heading to the gym for some treadmill walking.

Deanna - my gym has the same thing. An extra monthly charge for towels.. but I went to Target or Walmart... can't remember which... and bought some really really cheap towels that I take with me to the gym and just throw in the laundry pile when I get home. Much cheaper than the $10 +/- they wanted me to pay. I got the small ones just to use to towel off while exercising. Since the gym is only a 5 minute drive from my house, I come home to shower. It's a whole lot easier that way....

I was good with food yesterday.... not so good about water.. didn't do a workout......

some good.. some bad... but.. as always...

Progress, not perfection !!!

It's going to be interesting to see the results of my Monday weigh-in.... now that I'm not counting calories. What's funny is that I'm counting them in my head without even realizing it :D

I'll check back later this afternoon.....

Make it a good day my friends !!!

Hi and and I agree with Deanna, TGIF! I took my Stats final this morn...we'll see how it all shakes out and I will let ya know. Who has workout plans for the weekend? Stacy I know you have Friday Fun day...I'm starting off with Laundry Max.

Hey Ladies,

Sorness has set in from workout lastnight, but it is not that bad. :)

5K tomorrow for me, and then I am going to do House and Laundry Max and maybe wash my extremely dirty Jeep.

I got the stuff for Charity yesterday, hopefully it will be donated by my office next week to the Department of Child and Family Services.

Decided not to upgrade my membership with the gym.

Knowing that it is going to be a little cool tomorrow, I had picked up a jogging suit from Kohls with some gift cards that had been in my purse for almost 1 year. Then I went to Kmart today and picked up two Fleece Joe Boxer jogging suits for $6.99 each piece, not that bad. Now I have choices and I will be warm. :)

As you can see I really do not have much to talk about, just sitting at my desk waiting for the time to pass (1.5 hours).

I will check back in the AM before going to the 5k. Have a good night ladies.
Deanna :)

Good morning!

Now that my appetite is back Ive made up for lost time and eaten like a darn pig the past two days....pizza, cookies, fast food....ENOUGH!

Weigh-in is Monday and I'm taking this weekend to drink plenty of water, get in 2 good workouts and get back on track with my diet. I certainly dont want to undo what progress I've made so far!

We're decorating the tree and I'm helping hubby with some shopping so I hope to stay busy and out of the kitchen!

I'll check back later, not sure what workout today yet. We'll be out of town all next weekend celebrating Christmas with my family so no workouts then and alot of major unhealthy food around so working on my mental toughness this week! I really dont want to just give in and say "what the the heck, eat junk, it's the holidays". I'd love to feel like I've already made progress by New Year's Day instead of being in the situation that "well, it's New Years, time to startover". Enough rambling....

Good morning my friends !!

FnV - I have great confidence that you did great on your Stats final. I also know that you are glad that it's over !!!!!

Deanna - Great finds on your new jogging suits!! Enjoy your 5K today...

Stacy - I'm with you. I want to at least maintain during the holidays and not take steps backward. Mental toughness is exactly what I need.

I'm off to the gym to do some treadmill and I think I'll do that again tomorrow... then Monday, I shall get back to my regular workout schedule.. even if the workouts I choose are on the light side..... something is better than nothing.

off I go.....

Make it a great day !!!

We CAN do this..we ARE doing this.

As always... progress, not perfection !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Ladies :)

Just got back from the 5K, it was not as fun as previous races. There was not many people participating, very small group. I met a family that was in town for their daughters 21st birthday. I walked and talked with them which slowed me down. I can't wait for my christmas present from my son which suppose to be a IPod. I shared with my coworkers that I was going to step my walking/jogging up for 2012. I would like to participate in the Rock & Roll 1/2 Marathon the end of next year which is 13 miles. Now you know that means that I would need to start training NOW..LOL

Well, I am going to rest for a little and get up and do House and Laundry Max. I will check in later.

Deanna :)

I ended up doing Nothing Max yesterday but I just completed Circuit Blast from STS Shock Cardio. I think I like circuits right now for the first time, they seem like a good "idling speed" workout for me. I noticed CB has a 20+ minute cardio only premix--that might be a good one for me to put in my early morning workout pile. I Heart Cathe. : )

Deanna I wonder why not very many people at 5k? Maybe everyone is holiday shopping. Good luck w/ your chores today.

In my previous fitness phase, I did 7 miles once in a while and 4-5 miles 1-2 x week. I was taking my kids to a class that lasted a couple of hours. Nearby, there was a huge park with sidewalks, ponds, heart trail, gators and iguanas (one remarkable day I counted 13 of them) so I would go there and work out while I waited for kids. I didn't like other moms to come though, because I wanted to just be alone, think, listen to music and workout- not talk or go at someone else's pace. I guess I'd make a pretty crappy workout buddy, eh? lol, I really enjoyed that park and those runs.

Stacy, I agree with it being better to start new year with a running start from Early Dec. Lets all do it.

Susan, the gym treadmill seems like a good idea, you can get some habit energy built up around working out and not get bogged down in the choosing -planning; that is what happens to me sometimes.

Hugs yall, ttyl

Just taking a break from present wrapping and waiting on hubby to finish putting the lights on the tree. He is a major perfectionist with the lights and he's been at it for HOURS!! I dont say much, just wait patiently so I can start putting on the decorations.

Deanna...do you travel far for your 5K's?? You seem to do them fairly frequently. There doesnt seem to be too many in my neck of the woods, I'm guessing maybe it's weather related. High temp today is supposed to be 28, not that I plan on going outside!

I've walked 3 half marathons and did my own training but here is a site a friend of mine used. She started her training well before the race so only walked twice a week, where the link has you walking about 3 times a week, she did some weeks twice before progressing to the next.

Half Marathon Training Schedules For Walkers - The Walking Site

FnV...good job on the workout! I have yet to do mine today, my goal is to workout before dinner, so time is ticking....

Susan...how was your treadmill walk or run?? I agree that not being bogged down by picking a workout is a great plan!

I will definitely bbl to report my workout. I was thinking of STS Total Body but I think I'll start back with that next week.

Until later...
