Progress, not Perfection - 2012 - Month #1

Deanna - Great job on your 1.5 mile walk today !!! Don't worry about the weight.... you've been sick for weeks and that plus the holidays.... it's no wonder you've gained a few pounds back. With your dedication and determined attitude, you'll be right back in the swing in a week !!!

Stacy - Thanks for the link to Charlene's website. Those look good. Step aerobics without the step... lol.. Now I remember... those were THE workouts in the 80s !!!

FnV - I'm glad to see that you weren't blown away by Total Body Tri-Sets. I wasn't real thrilled with it while previewing. I doubt that it will ever be on my favorites list.. but.. ya never know til ya try..... so I shall do the Upper Body Split tomorrow.. as per the agenda.. and see what happens.

Off to find some supper.... food has been good today. Still not enough veggies... but adequate :)

I love that they have added the premix breakdowns in Workout Manager. Very helpful !!!

See y'all for coffee in the morning !!!

We CAN do this... we ARE doing this .......

Yep, I'm gonna try it a few more times but no, initially not crazy about it. I did do a run walk this eve, about 50 min. I get to rest tomorrow~then we are back on same page come Thurs

Just reading forums and sipping java this morn...out of half n half for 3 days but it actually is tasting less like mud w/o the cream. shrug

TBT isn't showing up as the most most fave from what I can tell. Funny, a few others remarked that they didn't like the music either. It has what I imagine to be a jazzy porn 70s quality, imo, ha ha, so there is an image to have in your head while working out today. But I will give it a few more tries, maybe I will end up loving it as I get better with the moves. They were challenging and different.

Also, dirtdiva posted this link Amazon.com: Cho-Pat Dual Action Knee Strap - Size - Medium - 14 - 16: Health & Personal Care I wondered if it might be a good stabilizer.

For me today, work, class, coffee w/ friend on campus, run to orthodontic w/ kid, work and maybe go to burlesque show w/ bffs if I get out of chem early enough, but that is iffy.

Cruise by later to see whats up, have a good morn

"jazzy 70s porn music".... lol... now that will be an image for my workout later.... :)

just a quick note... been on the phone (something I rarely do) and now I have to take a quick shower and give my neighbor a ride to go pick up her car from the service place....

So I will have to do my Triset upper body split this afternoon... sigh

I agree. I haven't seen Trisets on the least of most favorite from the LIS series.

However.... I heartily applaud Cathe for trying to make it different from all of her other weight workouts. There are only so many ways to exercise chest or shoulders or triceps or biceps. It looks like a toughie though.....

more later...

Make it a great day my friends !!!

Good afternoon!

I ended up somewhat salvaging my veggie and fruit-less day yesterday with a shrimp and veggie stir fry with red peppers, onions and broccoli.

I had PUB on the schedule today but the thought of doing that one was dreadful to me for some reason, so I did KCM's Split Sessions Upper Body which also includes standing abs. I had a good workout with no dread factor there (other than having to workout in general ;) )

FnV...I have that exact same Chopat strap and wear it sometimes when I do step and my knee is bothering me. I also wore it when I walked my last half marathon and it helped. It's not the end all and be all but definitely provided some good support.

Eats today...

B--almonds and coffee
L--low carb yogurt and 1/2 an apple
S--handful of popcorn before and after workout
D--dunno but I'm starving!!

BBL...working some from home tonight :(

Stacy - I had Total Body TriSets on today's agenda... and looked longingly at PUB to do instead. I love PUB... lol

okay... I did do Trisets... kinda/sorta and have to say.... I really didn't like it. I will do it again... just in case it grows on me... lol. But right now.. I can guess that it won't be a fave.. I modified a lot.. and only did half the reps.... I almost quit halfway through and put PUB on.... but I didn't :)

I understand the value of doing a lot of the exercises on the stability ball, but I just don't like it.

B - 2 eggs fried in coconut oil, 3 slices of bacon, coffee.. of course
L - stir fry beef with green peppers and scallions, banana
off to get supper ..... ff yogurt and fresh blueberries...

not enough veggies.. by far.. but otherwise okay !!

Stacy - thanks for the idea.. think I'll do shrimp and veggie stir fry tomorrow. I have shrimp in the freezer......

treadmill for me tomorrow..

ohhhhhh... almost forgot... a friend of mine is having sleep and fatigue issues and general blahs... she went to a clinical nutritionist yesterday who recommended that she go gluten free.... hmmmmmm..... I don't have any other details yet.. but I'll find out the particulars when I see this friend at the gym sometime in the next few days...

see y'all in the morning for java !!!

Quick note ...

I've been awake most of the night... coughing, sneezing, sniffling.. blah blah blah...

going back to bed...

Make it a great day my friends..

If you don't hear from me for a couple of days, I'm sleeping !!!

Hopefully, massive doses of vitamin C and a day/night of sleep will cure me.

Good morning. Thursday are the only day during the week I have some time to workout BEFORE I goto work. However, I didnt sleep well last night, finally getting to bed after 3:30am, so that coupled with the fact that I'm sore all over, I'm skipping my planned cardio today and taking an extra rest day.

Off to the shower...

Oh sheesh, I'm tired too and Deanna is conspicuously absent! I ended up meeting the bffs for show (which turned out to be different than I expected) and we hung out for awhile, I didn't get home til late, but I will muster a workout somehow and post back.

I hope your rest and viteys speed your healing, Susan, and good luck getting thru your day with such little sleep, Stacy. Hi Deanna!

Wow, we fell off the front page! I think Deanna is out for a run this weekend? Stacy having Fri Pizza and Rest day and Susan hopefully feeling better rather than worse.

I'm behind on workouts so not much to add.

I did buy hard salami, a favorite that I consider borderline poison and eat about once every 5 years, in anticipation of having it before I flip on my food philosophy this Sat after watching the Forks over Knives movie.

CSS looks like fun, I am looking forward to trying it, or would be if I still wasn't so gosh darn sleep deprived. I haven't caught up from Wed.

Have a good one

Susan, I think I'm coming down with your cold :( Sneezing, runny nose, drippy throat. I'd been feeling tired as the week progressed thinking it was lack of sleep and maybe overtraining, maybe it was me coming down with something...or maybe all the above????

We'll see how I'm feeling in the morning, High Reps is on the schedule. Next week I have a weirder than usual work schedule so I'm probably going to change up the rotation plan a bit and do a few circuit workouts if I have time to fit them in. Then I'll jump back into the planned rotation.

G'night all....

Hey Ladies, I am here. I have been busy at work trying to get everything done for the 1st of February. Friday 1.20.12, I keyed in everthing on my desk for the 1st and that was 950 checks. I was extremely tired when I got home and I went straight to bed.

I am scheduled to do a 5k tomorrow, and Monday I am going to start back on my regular workout.

I am going to rest and then get up and tackle my house. I will check back tomorrow morning after my race.

Deanna

Good morning my friends !!!

I have slept for most of the last 48 hours... still feel like cr*p, but I'm going to try to stay out of bed for a good part of the day... Now.. that may mean just moving to my chair in the living room.. lol.. but at least it will be a change of scenery..

Deanna - great job on getting ahead at work !!! Have fun on your 5K today. Let us know how it went !!

Stacy - sending lots of hugs. It's never fun to be sick... I hope you'll get a chance to rest this weekend and don't have to work !!!

FnV - I hope you got some sleep last night !! Are you thinking that you will flip to vegetarianism after you see the movie? I probably would too. So difficult to know who is right and which way of eating is the most healthy. I'm thinking that I will go middle of the road... lol

okay.... moving to my chair.....

Progress, not Perfection !!!!

Much to my surprise, I woke up feeling fine this morning! I was just lazy today and didnt get my workout done til just now, but better late than never. I did High Reps as scheduled and felt pretty good. I was a bit sore from KCM's Split Sessions so was a bit leery but I think that extra rest day helped. I was still sore but not that fatigued.

Hope everyone gets some rest this weekend...and a workout if possible!

Cardio tomorrow!

Good morning !! kinda/sorta

heading back to bed..... was feeling a little better yesterday afternoon and evening, but this morning I have regressed... sigh.

Stacy - great job on your workout !!! I was really looking forward to doing High Reps....

Deanna - how was your 5K??

FnV - how was the movie? What are your food "thoughts" now??

bbl....

Heeeey girls,

I did manage to complete (and liked) High Reps yesterday; again as a new workout to me it needed some tweaking in order for it to be most effective but I'm avoiding perfectionism in favor of "Gitter Done".

Technically, I think I was one cardio short on the rotation, but I got all the DVDs in. Its really been helpful to have the rotation push me into actually trying all these workouts.

Next week is in my WM calendar. I made Wed the rest day and split the AT and SG into two days. On AT day I'll do the Cardio and Legs express PM and also the core chapter, on SG day I'll do the cardio and core PM.

Susan, give it a week or 7 days and hopefully you will be all better. Stacy, I hope you dodged the bullet! I saw on FB that Deanna was out on her run. : )

Forks movie was great. I've read China Study and books by each of the physicians they had except Essylstyn (i know I keep butchering his name). Neil Barnard, McDougall, Campbell. My take away was same as before- animal protein feeds cancer, disease states can be halted and reversed with a whole foods plant based diet. They also touched on all the bullshit that goes along with FDA and Govt generated food guidelines, and there was the American Dietetic Assn president looking chubby and constipated and espousing all the industry backed crap they support (diary, etc).

For me, I think that health and body wt can be optimized thru eating large amts of veggies and fruits ...and despite whatever else happens after that -- it probably won't kill you (and may or may not be healthful) whether it is small portions of meat or diary or grain.

Conclusion: a friend asked me after the movie did this information make me want to change my lifestyle. I never got to answer her, but what I kept thinking was...I KNOW this information, I've already practiced it and have the pictures to prove it. So the next question is, wth am I waiting for now? Which brings it back to the "addictive" quality of calorically dense foods and so on (which they also illustrated nicely in the movie)

Double Dance day in just a bit~~ hugs to all

Good morning!

FnV...I like your "wth am I waiting for" assessment. That sums it up for me as well. Did the movie have any graphic stuff in it, ie. animal cruelty? I've heard stuff like that is in Food, Inc. I cant watch that stuff.

Susan...hope you're up and at 'em soon!

Deanna...how was the walk?? I'm thinking about signing up for one this year, maybe not another half marathon, but who knows!

I havent decided on my cardio yet, maybe the treadmill or kickboxing.

So far other than the one extra rest day I took, I've stuck to this rotation every day, subbing out different cardio certain days but keeping to the basic rotation outline. I'll do my best this week but I'm not going to get too down on myself. I have to work alot of extra hours this week including some later nights than usual and I'm also working the entire weekend, so we'll see how it goes!

BBL...

Great job on the workouts team !!!!

I'm hoping to be able to do "something" tomorrow !!

As far as food.... I'm strongly leaning towards a "moderation in all things" approach... which is the way I've eaten most often.

Veggies and fruits are a given.

As you said FnV... after that.... a little of this and a little of that ....

Before I started this Paleo/Primal experiment... I ate beef 2 or 3 times a week -- the rest of the time it was tuna, shrimp, yogurt, eggs, bacon.... And I think I'll stick with that.

As I said last week, I have added rice, beans and lentils back in. I'm also going to add whole grain bread (preferably homemade) back in and oatmeal.

And, of course, healthy fats... I have come around on the coconut oil. I really like it now and everything I've read says it's healthy. And olive oil and avocados. I'm going to use cage free local eggs and pasture butter.

I'm going to .. most definitely... stay away from processed foods. They are the devil !!!!

Sooo.. in short... moderation in all things with emphasis on lots of veggies !!!

Hello ladies :)

I was up early this morning to participate in the 5K. It was rather cool this morning, I kept my gloves on the entire time. I completed 3 miles in 48 minutes, maybe next time I can complete it in 45 minutes. :)

Deanna

Fantastic job Deanna !!!!

That's 16 minute miles.... that's pretty fast !! Go get 'em tiger !!!

I forgot to add: I used to own all of Dr. McDougall's books.... and..

I have Dr. Gabe Mirkin's Healthy Heart Miracle..... which is an excellent read. I highly recommend it if you are still interested in research :p

Dr. Mirkin's program is super low fat.... no animal products except seafood 2x per week is optional. Whole grains, veggies, fruit, olive oil (3 tsps per day max and that is optional), nuts in moderation.... no processed foods. Dairy is okay as long as it is FF and in moderation and you can tolerate it. It's based on the DASH diet with a few tweaks.

I just can't go THAT low fat... my hair and skin get dried out.... and I don't feel full when I eat.. hence my olive oil, coconut oil, and pasture butter.
