Pentagenetians & Beyond: W/B 6/20

Woke up at 5:30 as Nick was up getting ready for work. He has to leave at 6:15 on Thursday and Friday. So I was tired and ended up doing Mobility.

Valerie glad you have your truck back though big expensive repairs are never what you want. I haven't noticed that vehicles prices have gotten that out of whack here, but I live in the land of cars as a lot are still made in Michigan. I pass a GM plant every time I go to Lansing. Downhills are definitely fun! Crazy about your fireworks situation. Lots of them are illegal to sell in Michigan, but all you have to do is cross the border into Indiana and there are fireworks stores right near the border. Where we live it's usually not horrible, and we no longer have a dog. Both dogs we had were freaked by storms and fireworks. The neighbors did try to burn down a field a few years back. The guy used to live next door to us, and he's a real fire bug. He inherited his parents farm, but kept the land and sold the house. His daughter built back in the fields and fireworks set the pasture on fire. He drove to the farm, brought back a huge barrel of water on a front loader and they'd been digging around it while he was gone and they put it out. We've been getting a ton of rain this week and there's more in the forecast, so hopefully he won't be so dry on the 4th. Yes, I was with my husband. Both the boys could easily keep up with me and especially Nick could leave me in the dust. Considering if Derek and I would have time to do that area this fall when I take him back up and do the other falls. If anything put me off it would be the parking situation. Thinking September/October would be the time to really do it.

Carolyn great job with Cardio Party! I'm sure you'll enjoy your time with your daughter and her family.

cathy maybe he was trying to make us feel better about the $4500 repair! (I did read in the seattle times about the pricing for used/new vehicles so maybe a west coast thing). that was same as the dealer would have charged but this shop got it done quickly. the dealer never even got back to us, and we tried them first. we had planned to stay here thru the 4th but now it wont happen. western WA like the rest of the west is being hit with stunningly high temps. we will miss the worst of it sunday and monday but plan to go back tuesday. we are well prepared but our garden will need water if it isnt toasted already, and the temps will be unprecedented so if something fails, we wont wait a week to find out. plus the fireworks issue. excuse me for complaining about this again. the climate is usually temperate with a lot of rain. if things dry out there is a LOT of fuel to burn much earlier in the year than normal. we expect it to be dry in august and september but july (early) is unusual. we will be more comfortable if we are there to handle anything before it gets out of hand. we have an odd situation with indian reservations not subject to the rules and laws everyone else is. they sell anything ...supposedly it "doesnt leave the res". ha ha, what a joke. it is scary dangerous and this year might be more so than ever. kids buying stuff to blow up are a problem but its mainly adults who should know better. anyway, we will head back probably tuesday. by then it will be hot in MT too so no place to hide!

hiking today. still cool and pleasant but wont stay this way.

I did not work out today. Daughter and family arrived around midday— they really got an early start on the 6 1/2 hour drive. I am so happy to see them in person for the first time in 16 months.

Valerie, I don’t think that the high repair costs are a west coast thing. It’s also a problem here. And the price of new trucks and SUVs is ridiculous. I have been reading about the extremely high temperatures that are in your area. The changing weather patterns is very concerning.

Hello to Judy, Diane Sue, and Cathy.

we did a hike with our neighbor today sort of spur of the moment. a trail across the road from where we did the ride yesterday. this one qualifies as mountain climbing. it was about 7 miles with significant elevation gain. cooler and slightly cloudy so temps were good. she brings her two dogs along. they are wonderful dogs but they run free during hikes and in bear country a little uncomfortable.. we were most of the way up and ran into the only other person on the trail who said she saw a bunch of elk and calves up there and something spooked them but she could not see what. we chatted with her a bit. then continued on another half mile when one of the dogs let out a very concerning bark/yelp. it sounded different. I looked where the dog was looking and spotted a grizzly on the opposite slope probably 1/4 mile away. I would not have noticed it if Bree hadn't barked like that. it looked like a young bear. it worked its way down the slope and away from us, a good thing. so that was what had sent the elk running. we went another short distance and got to a high spot and had lunch. it was a really nice hike probably 7 miles or so RT.

Carolyn have a good visit. so nice reconnecting with people after this long time of distancing. No way could we look for a new truck when we are here with a camper but when things normalize a bit we may well decide to trade this one in. it's 2009 not brand new. we are pretty decided we will drive tuesday.

Today I did CDorner Step Aerobics #124 from today, 66 minutes, heart rate 136/168, 341 calories. Then I started the Full Body workout from yesterday, but only did 5 minutes which was warm up and a plank hold that was timed, this was 27 calories, heart rate 123/149. I finished with her 15 minute lower body stretch for tight legs and hips, heart rate 88/108, 34 calories. Total time was 86 minutes, 402 calories, 5,534 steps. It has been raining and I got up at 3 am to shut off the sprinkler system before it turned on at 4:30. I had a hard time falling back to sleep.
