Pentagenerians & Beyond: W/B 3/14

Still sore from Tuesday, but Wednesday's leg workout OMG! Woke up yesterday morning and my inner thighs were so sore. So, the workout that contains four barbell exercises: squats, deadlifts, front squats and front lunges did in my inner thighs. Thank goodness there was no exercise specific to them. LOL As the day progressed the hamstrings, glutes, and quads joined in and it seemed like every time I moved it was worse. Today was Shoulders, Biceps and Triceps. We'll see what happens tomorrow when it'll be a cardio day. There is pretty much no way I can move the least bit without a muscle talking to me right now!

I do wish I still had access to the numbers from when I did STS years ago to compare weight amounts, though it would probably just be depressing. LOL The workout manager doesn't keep anything, just changes all the weights for STS to the newest ones. I do wish they had corrected all the errors in it and there are a lot!

Diane Sue great job on the workout! I've come to the conclusion that there's no way short of being hooked up in a lab to monitors to figure out a really accurate calorie burn. Thanks for the foam roller info, I could really use one today!

Valerie I'm so sorry the skiing isn't going to workout for you there. Hopefully you can get in some good hikes.

Carolyn great job on the workout! That's too bad about having to replace your heating/air systems. Fortunately, we only had to replace the furnace part of ours. I never knew that the air conditioning systems were so pricey. I hope yours goes smoothly.

Good morning. Today I did Step Sync, combos 1 and 2, for 33 minutes and 264 calories burned. My average heart rate was 141 and maximum heart rate was 176. Then I did Jane Adams Gentle Yoga Relaxation practice which was 29 minutes. I like this practice because it gives a great total body stretch without being too strenuous.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

Today I did CDorner Cardio Step Aerobics Int/Adv, started wth 4 minutes of the dance workout and decided the turns were a bit much right now for my knee. I caught my foot in the handle of a storage bag climbing over boxes to get touch up paint and hit the garage concrete floor a couple of days ago. This workout was 62 minutes with the dance, 369 calories(Blaze) 6,027 steps, heart rate 141/182. I also did one of her mobility workouts, 25 minutes, heart rate 86/111 heart rate, 30 calories, 57 steps. Total time 88 minutes, 399 calories, 6,057 steps. I forgot to mention that the Mash up cardio I did yesterday was a blend of movement types and different styles of music all done without equipment till the last bit that used a pair of really light dumbbells with the cardio moves. It had some boxing with speed bags through the first songs, some dance type moves with pony and cha chas mixed in, nothing difficult as she instructs well, a basic mostly low impact section. Lots of variety. Chris does not do a lot of high impact stuff. Thee was some jacks in it, but she always shows different alternatives.
Finally have move in day settled. Yeah. I may not workout next week. I will see. We have school the 3 days before move in. A lot to get done yet, but most cabinets an closets are empty.

Carolyn, nice work out today. I really like Step Sync and it is one of the two I kept out and packed everything else. It seems I am back to getting readings similar to yours again since I switched to the blaze when doing cardio. It would be nice to have a watch do everything right. Those heating and air units cost so much money. They have kept ours going and they are old at this house. My daughter has 3 units in their home and they all need replaced. One had quit, so they are doing one at a time and have a plan for getting them all done. They had some insurance for them which brought the price down some, but still costs a bunch. Our new home will have a brand new unit as they had to replace because the builder had done something wrong and at the moment they are working on it and had to tear out some wall or something from my understanding. The house is supposed to be energy efficient and a smart home.

Cathe, you would probably get some relief with the foam roller. I also like them for loosening things up some more along with stretching. My foam roller is around 13 years old. I would like to replace it with one that is a bit smoother texture and a bit of softness to it. They have different ones. We got mine off of ebay when it was harder to find the long ones. I think over the years we have worked out we have kind of a clue as to how much we are more than likely burning and where heart rate should be for different workouts. If I went by the Versa 2 and was stringent with diet using it's stats, I would lose even more weight. I tend to ignore that end and just eat extra calories. If I was piling on weight, I would figure it was probably more accurate than I think it is. Anyway, I do like it to be reasonably accurate for a guideline. I just threw away work sheets from over the years with stats written on the corners from STS and different programs I had printed up. Also threw away several years of workout logs that I keep. I always buy a calendar book with plenty of room or a journal and keep all of my workouts and stats written in them. I just decided I do not care enough to need them anymore.

we are hoping to get the elliptical we ordered delivered today. it has been a confusing mess because we are here part time and we( hindsight) should have ordered it and brought it over ourselves. DH wanted this so its been mostly his rodeo.

carolyn we had to replace our furnace heat pump last year too. it was 30 years old and efficiency was dropping and wasn't worth trying to update. its a big expense but we found the new set up works a lot better. old one was loud, and pulled doors shut when ever it started up. it cost more to run each year. new one is nicer, more efficient, air conditioning works better. old one got the main floor too cold and didn't cool the upstairs bedrooms which is where it was needed. . we ended up putting mini splits in the bedrooms and don't need to run the main unit much. must be a common issue.

This morning I did Chiseled Lower Body Blast for 48 minutes and 303 calories burned. Average heart rate was 124 and maximum heart rate was 147. We have two heating and air systems and they are 24 years old. We replaced the upstairs furnace three years ago. This time we will do the upstairs air and both things downstairs. I don’t want to keep revisiting this problem every year.

Diane Sue, great job with the CDorner workouts. I took a look at her web page to learn a bit about her. She sounds like a good instructor. I’m glad that your Blaze is giving you more accurate readings. You were lucky that you didn’t hurt yourself more when you tripped.

Valerie, I hope that your elliptical is delivered today.

Hello to Judy, Cathy, Deb, and Lori.

Elliptical came and we put it together snd used it. Very nice and will work for us. Missing a bottle holder but that’s minor and can get mailed to us.
It seems precor had someone drive it to us in a regular truck from somewhere in WA because their regular truck was too big. The whole process got ridiculous!! We thought someone was driving it from either Billings or Bozeman. We’d been led to believe that thru the whole process .No idea how that happened. Someone from Chicago who didn’t understand the distances involved.
Driving home to WA today. And about half way there

Today I did Step Boss Step Sync combos 1,2, and part of 3 skipping a cooldown, 39 minutes, heart rate 134/165, 222 calories, 4,009 steps. I then did CDorner Lower Body Strength 100th Anniversary, first grouping as I did not want to spend too much time, but wanted to get in some lower body work. This was 41 minutes with a bit of extra stretching, heart rate 93/140, 80 calories,551 steps. Total time was 302, 81 minutes, 4560 steps.

Lower Body Strength 100th anniversary has 2 phases the second part seems to be floor moves, but I did not preview all of it, but gathered it is a lot of reps as she makes comment about this.

Carolyn, CDorner is a good instructor and gives plenty of form pointers. On todays workout with the loop band around the thighs she says if your knees are pulling in your band is too tight. She often makes suggestions and form pointers. I have no problem following her even when the workouts are new. She has lots of mobility and stretch workouts around 30 minutes that are great. The stretches are a bit slower paced that I have done so far. I know when I fell I thought about getting older and those risks. Particularly since it was midnight and I was alone. It jarred my neck and I hurt when I got up. I just checked for bruising and went to bed. I decided I had had enough for one day.

Valerie, that is great that your elliptical came and it works great for you. We got a bicycle for our youngest grandchild and it was missing the holder on the front for a water bottle and when I contacted the company they sent back the missing item and some extras that did not originally come with the bike. Have a safe trip back to Washington.
