Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 9/24/2023

busy shopping day so I left it to therapy only. plus I had some soreness from previous. the right kind of soreness though so Im ok with it and maybe more later today.
carolyn I dont remember which workout but its a cathe one, the 30 minute Pump ones where she goes really heavy and fast. I went light because some moves I haven't done lately and used a 18 min premix. with a few add ons of my own. used 10, 12, and 20 not 30 and 35! I need to be careful not to reactivate whatever I injured so not getting cocky, but trying to work everything more tentatively. had not done pull overs and rows but those went fine. its always dicey when you cant figure what caused the problem. no clue why the dvd player is choosing to display different words after being unplugged for 2 weeks. sound is working ok though so not worrying about it. I am death to electronics.

diane sue hope your discomfort settles down. my DH has had very thin hair for a long time. he's gotten very diligent about wearing a hat but for most of us, the damage was done in the remote past. even if you have hair, the sunlight gets through and starts causing damage when you're are young. it's cumulative. he was a central california kid and they got lots of sun. I should have been better with sunscreen than I was, but old sunscreens didn't work well and I spent a lot of time outside. in the mountains at altitude and on snow. clothing is better now too, so nylon fabric blocks well, but those fabrics didn't exist way back when. we weren't totally negligent but things used to sweat off, or you would get wet from brush and they would rub off. my skin still looks pretty good but its worth getting a total body exam once a year.

Today I did Perfect 30 Perfect Pump Lower Body and the Extended Stretch. My time was 39 minutes with 189 calories burned. My average heart rate was 119 and maximum heart rate was 150.

Diane Sue, I’m sorry that you had such neck and back pain. Nice job doing the Raw and CDorner stretches for recovery. I’m glad that you are better.

Valerie, that’s the same series that I did today. I misunderstood your post and thought that it was another trainer‘s video instead of Cathe. She does go heavy in the Perfect Pump workouts. I don’t go as heavy as she does with many of the exercises—especially the upper body.

Hello to Judy and Cathy.

Today I did 20 minutes of Peloton Rowing, Muscle Meltdown Triceps and a short core workout. The Peloton Row is very comfortable, smooth and quiet. The on screen metrics are: Heart Rate (from Apple Watch), Distance in meters, Strokes, Pace (min/500 m), Output (watts), Stroke Rate (spm), Calories and Total Output(kj). There is a “Form Assist” box in the left corner that tracks your movement and grades you on your rowing form. There are classes that help with form and technique along with beginner and more advanced classes. It’s interesting and has more features than I expected. I will add to my review after I’ve done a few more classes, but so far so good. Chris is very happy with it too.

Carolyn-Great job with SS Ramped Up Upper Body and Perfect 30 Perfect Pump Lower Body with the Extended Stretch.

Diane Sue-Great job with Raw warm up for the timesavers, Raw Athletic Stretch 2 and the CDorner stretch. I’m sorry about your neck and back pain. I’m glad it’s better.

Cathy-I’m so sorry about your stressful day. I hope you are getting caught up on rest this week. Great job with Live 30 Minute Hiit Express and your Tabata/Hiit workout.

Valerie-Great job with Pedal Power and XTrain abs and the 30 minute weight workout. I’m getting my shots next week.

Shopped today so no workout. Valerie the cats, the two that insist they have to go out, have a pet door. Unfortunately, if they can go in and out they can bring things with them. Mopsy has gotten really bad about the rabbits this year. He's brought in a lot and only a couple have gotten released. Great job with x train abs, and a weight workout premix. I'm glad you have been able to figure out your surgery details. My Dad had an area removed on his temple. My Mom really should NOT have gone, but he tries to keep the peace with her, she can get quite nasty with him. Her Mother was the same way, but my Mom's issues have started about 10 years earlier. Anything to do with any kind of medical stresses her out hugely, she's been like that since she was a little kid trying to escape the dentist office. The visors in cars are never low enough. I've learned that if I'm in Marquette at certain times of the year, I don't try to head home until the sun has risen high enough to block it, the first hour you're driving directly into it and as you said sun glasses do nothing. One of the highways I can take going into Lansing is the same for a few weeks out of the year, except that's only for a few miles before the road curves enough.

Diane Sue sorry to hear you did something to your back and neck. Especially hard when you don't know what you did. You don't know if it was a weird fluke thing or if it's something you could avoid if you just knew what it was. Sounds like you made good choices with the stretch workouts.

Cathy, should get my two "height assistance" car items today. I was amazed at difference in visor size. no clue why that was done. it makes the visor completely useless. when we drive to MT in the morning, the rising sun is absolutely brutal. we face it for a long time, not 15 minutes. the other subarus, I could stretch up high enough to use the visor. barely workable. now not even close! when we drive back, we often get the setting sun which is just as bad. if we get a cloudy day it's best. I think the combo of the seat cushion and a visor extender will improve this. one of those things you dont notice until you spend time in the car. never occurred to me this could get updated and 'improved".

your mother sounds like a hard person for everyone to deal with. those derm procedures aren't that complicated but they can take time.

did therapy work and ab work yesterday. saw my surgeon. his scheduler will call me with avaible dates. my decision was made 6 weeks ago but I was trying to be fair and let the other guy weigh in on what's needed. this is the best option. what's interesting is from the electronic medical record system, he knew everything about my visit with the other guy. its fine, I wasnt trying to make a secret of it but even my Dh was surprised.

we have a motion activated trail camera set up on the forested part of our lot. a hassle getting it to work. then didnt see much but we tried a new place. Wow! September gave us pics of raccoons, possums, rabbits , deer, then a bobcat, coyote and cougar. beautiful animals. mostly middle of the night. neighbors had reported seeing a cougar and I was nagging DH to try the camera again, and success. we have old path/road in our trees. a lot more visitors than we realized. its near where we saw the great gray owl a couple years ago.

This morning I did JS 30 Minute Fat Blaster for 30 minutes and 214 calories burned. Average heart rate was 135 and maximum heart rate was 170.

Judy, it’s great that the new Peloton Rower works well. It sounds like a good fit for you and Chris.

Valerie, I’m glad that things are moving forward now with your surgery schedule. It’s understandable that you wanted as much information as possible before making a decision.

Hello to Cathy and Diane Sue. Have a wonderful day everyone.

Yesterday I did CDorner at home legs and glutes all standing workout, 55 minutes, 146 calories. I also did her Total Body Stretch chair with meditation skipping the meditation. This was 15 minutes, 28 calories. I have done this before so knew the stretching and mobility was only 15 minutes and the rest was lying on the floor with feet on the chair. I just wanted to loosen up a bit.
Today I did not work out. I took my dog to the vet for her shots and to check out the spot on her face that we have been dealing with. I am tired of the cone on her and she is as well. It will stay for a while. The vet says places like that on the face where it is at are usually from snake bites. He cleaned it off and there were two holes. This made it bleed again. He put her on some antibiotics and some probiotics to help since she is on the antibiotics. I am supposed to call in a week or so to let him know how she is doing. I know there are snakes in the yard. I had one crawl out when I picked up rocks to pull grass out around the rose bushes. When I got home my husband is off and we went to lunch.

This morning I did STS 2 Lower Body 1. We are going to be warmer for the next week. Doing that fall bounce from leggings/sweatshirt to shorts/tank top thing that happens every spring and winter. Easier now that I minimized my clothes and they are all in a less than 5' row.

UGH!!! Apparently, I never hit the button to post that yesterday.

So, I just finished STS 2 Upper Body 2. Yesterday didn't bother my wrist, though clearly it did get my legs. Especially inner thighs and hamstrings. I decided to do the 2 sets max premix, and do you know how many sets that drops. TWO :D We'll see how the wrist feels tonight and tomorrow. DH is gone all day, so I'm planning on getting some things done, including possibly pulling out and donating some things out of the storage area that would fall under his, but someday we might need it category, and my there is only a tiny fraction of a chance we will category. What he doesn't know....

Diane Sue great job with CDorner at home legs and glutes all standing workout and the stretch. What kind of snakes do you have. We pretty much only have garters in our area. Possible to have others but nothing that's going to cause issues.

Carolyn nice job with JS 30 Minute Fat Blaster.

Valerie I get to see a lot of what my sister has on her nest cam and those are right on/by the house. I'll get a what kind of bird/spider/insect is that. Fly byes by bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. But, also deer, plus they've had a bobcat and bear. Funniest one though was when they were still in Florida they saw a snapping turtle was laying eggs. So, she looked up when they would hatch and they put a camera on it. A couple weeks ago when it was a couple weeks past the date they should have hatched, she dug up the area, and NO eggs. Something had apparently gotten them between the time they were laid and their arrival in NC. But in making the nest, the turtle did get through the wire mesh that had been put down when the yard was originally seeded.

we did a road ride yesterday for an hour and 15 min. 15 miles. took us longer but that is how much actual riding time. more salmon spawning on a feeder creek to the main river. so stopped and watched although we could not go down to where the "action" was. watched from a bridge. we've had rain several days this week so stream flow is better. sad all rivers here used to have loads of salmon but dams and pollution made that impossible. hydropower is great but there are downsides. we don't live on the river so mostly luck we're riding when salmon are running. not the same every year.

cathy we will have a bear at some time too. plenty of bear sightings near by so if our pathway is getting this much traffic, we will likely get a bear too. this is not far from where we had the camera before with nothing. turtles arent likely. motion activated so tiny things wont set it off. we're enjoying what we see so might get a better camera. we've seen the bobcats before but we never seen a
cougar. especially in the back yard.
we have garter snakes here. lots. in MT we see garter snakes, rubber boas, gopher snakes and rattlers. probably others but that's most of them. we have never come across a rattler close up but have from a distance and in a car. I respect them but dont worry about them. diane sue hopefully your dog learned a lesson and leaves snakes alone now.

cathy I got the seat cushion and the visor extender. the cushion is nice and might be enough by itself. DH tried it and might get one too. hes 5'6". car makers progress from small to "bigger and better". I am getting sized out. I'm 5'1". this year is the first time nothing fit , especially after the drop down visor was ridiculously short. (can you tell how angry that made me?) the seat cushion sits on top of the seat. goes car to car easily. dense foam. comfortable and elevates an inch to two. says 2.5 but that's optimistic. I can put in an amazon link to the cushion or the visor if anyone is interested. cushion was $40. way better than a phone book. will have to take a trip before I know how well they both work but it could not be worse.

Today is my rest day, so no workout to report.

Diane S, nice job with CDorner At Home Legs and Glutes and Total Body Stretch. Hopefully your dog will stay away from snakes in the future.

Cathy, great job with STS 2 Lower Body 1 and Upper Body 2.

Valerie, nice job with the road ride. It’s good that you saw salmon again. I’m fortunate that I don’t need a seat cushion or visor extension. I stopped to look at the vendor table for a French bakery this morning. I thought of you when I saw the croissants. They had so many varieties, both sweet and savory, but I resisted the temptation to try one. I don’t usually stop there, but they were next to the guy that I buy local honey from and hard to ignore.

Hello to Judy.

Today I did Coffey Fit Raw Timesaver warm up and step intervals 19 minutes, heart rate 110/128, 78 calories. I then did Raw Timesaver Pull 21 minutes(extra time for writing down) heart rate 94/118. I I also did Timesaver Abs 16 minutes, 39 calories, heart rate 88/115 and finished with STS 2 mat yoga + 27 minutes, 39 calories. Total was 83 minutes, 214 calories, 1,852 steps.

Coffey Fit Timesaver Pull workout 16:51 minutes
2 sets of each move 8 reps

warm up 5# dumbbells curls, scap squeeze, curl turn reverse curl, run row, overhead pull down
Hammer curls 15# dbs 8 reps 2 sets ( I did 3 reps 20# 2nd set and dropped to 15)

zottman curls 15# dbs 8 reps, 15# dbs 8 reps
bentover rows palms facing front 20# dbs 8 reps; palms back 8 20# dbs 8 reps
pullover modified lying on bench 20# db 8 reps; 20# db 8 reps

As far as snakes here the one I saw in my yard was small and brown so I am not sure. I just guessed a garter snake. At our other house which had a small lake and being below the dam of a big lake there were reports of cotton mouth. I quit walking back through the woods with my dog when I heard that. My daughter has seen cotton mouths around their pond in the woods behind thier house. They have rat snakes. They had black snakes in the ceiling of one of their bedrooms that is half underground once. I saw a huge long black looking snake once when I went to there house that went under my car. I was quick to jump out and run up the hill to the house. Our yard tends to hold water in the back part even after builders put in some drainage.

Cathy, nice work on STS 2 Lower body. I thought we were in our cooling trend when it dropped to in the 80s, but it has moved back up to the 90s. I do not mind as I am not thrilled with winter weather.
LOL on the STS 2 Upper Body 2 sets. All of the two sets only cuts off a couple of minutes and exercises. I realized that as well. It seemed sort of a waste going for the two sets.

Valerie, great job on getting the ride in. I am sure it is nice watching the salmon. It is too bad that so much that is nature is changed my human meddling. I guess there is a lot of good and bad to it. I feel sorry for my dog. She just lies around with the cone on or goes from one of us to the other hoping someone will take it off. I do to brush her and sit with her once in a while just for a bit of reprieve. It looks better after the vet scraped off all of the places I was afraid to dig off her. I hope she never tangles with a snake again.

Carolyn, enjoy your rest day today.

Judy, the Peloton Rower sounds like a really nice piece of equipment.
