Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 8/27

Good evening ladies,

This morning was a SB interval bounce followed up with a bellicon booty blast. This was my only workout. My thighs, especially above the knee, are feeling my runs from the past couple of days. So needed a workout not toi intense. These 2 were perfect.

Thank you all for your kind words about Madeline. It is all so sad. Hoping to get out to visit her right after our conference which is coming up 9/16 - 9/19.

Valerie...I wish so much I could drop what I am doing and spend a week or 2 with her. Unfortunately, because I am the meeting planner for our conference I just can't. Hate when work comes before family. It really stinks. Wow kind of scary someone driving the wrong way. Glad you were not in harms way.

Diane Sue...I freeze desserts all the time. And LOVE eating frozen desserts especially cupcakes. I prefer them frozen actually. Matter a fact I just had 1/2 a frozen cupcake tonight. Was a lighter version with hardly any frosting but oh so good! I also freeze cheesecake. Do you do the plyo jumps from the bootcamp blizzard with 3 risers? I do 2 and that is plenty for me!

Carolyn...Cardio Core is one tough workout! Good for you!

Deb...lol! Yes she did drag me and I loved it. It is kind of drizzly tonight so we did not go. I can tell she was hoping. I bought a head lamp on Amazon so when it starts to get dark hoping we still can go. It is a really thick wooded area so not sure if I am going to feel comfortable at night. The light I bought is pretty bright so as long as it scares the wild life, off I will feel better. Glad Keegan is feeling well.

Have a great night all'

Good morning,

Diane Sue, there is nothing so annoying than a printer tech problem. I never heard about private vs public...? I called HP and paid them to fix my printer issue remotely. They then gave me a 1 year warranty for $19.99 that gave me free call in tech service. Kylee is fine around other dogs. I thought she would be fearful, or even aggressive but she is not. I am the one that is afraid now. :(

Carolyn, is Cardio Core Circuit a Live workout?

Valerie, John puts the pepper spray on one of those pull out things that attaches to your belt. I hope we never have to use it. I feel your pain on the clock. Also, the screen choices are ridiculous! I like having the outside temp, a clock and to see how many mpg I am getting. They have all these weird charts and graphs etc. Like I really am going to look at that stuff while I am driving.

Lori, Gigi may turn into a great running partner some day, as long as your knees etc can hold out! :).

Have a great day!

I have to go back to the store today for more white chocolate. I forgot I made a dentist check appointment for tomorrow. Good they called to remind me, but not so good when I have so much going on already.

Lori, best to be careful of the knees. Probably from P90X? I used 3 risers for those jumps. It wasn't too bad. It really depends on how my knees and legs are feeling when I get to that one. I do have plenty of jumping coming up Friday and Saturday with RWH lower Circuit and Plyo Hiit 1.

Deb, I tend to be wary any time I see dogs wandering around off leash. Your experience would probably leave me in some state of anxiety over it. We just purchased a second HP Envy printer after I spent hours trying to figure out one we have down stairs. I think it was just stored too long in the heat. We threw it out. This Envy works great and was only 59 dollars on Amazon. It cost more for the HP XL ink cartridges that we purchased than the printer itself. That is where they make their money. They put those computer chips on the cartridges which sometimes makes it difficult to operate their printers if some of the ink cartridges are low. Also they make it a bit difficult to use refilled cartridges. I can use some from YoYo Ink in my HP Envy upstairs (we have two now) and they work well for me. They use the ones with the computer chip to fill so my printer will tell me it is a previously used HP cartridge. I tried another company for the one we threw away and they did not work. But, then neither did the HP ones.

Deb that is so true. I have not used the new car much yet, but all those screens are crazy. I want clock, outside temp, mph and a gas gauge. the rest is unneeded. I don't mind getting gas mileage but I fail to see why I need it showing constantly. keep in mind that if you ever need the pepper spray, don't accidentally spray yourself. it is MOST unpleasant and it can happen pretty easily if things get frantic. if you get any on your hands, do NOT touch your face. the bear spray we carry has a "safety cover" over the spray head but I think I've mentioned before that DH managed to spray us at least twice when the cover caught on a seat belt or his pack strap. it is memorable! the smaller containers have the same pepper spray, just less of it and it doesn't spray as far as bear spray cans. it will stop just about anything if you get the spray in their face.

we have two Envy printers too. I have not had luck with refilled cartridges. DH has a different HP printer. same thing. cost of the printer is nothing compared to keep it in ink. I had an older HP that I used counterfeit cartridges in but only because HP stopped making cartridges for the printer. finally had to dump the printer because the cartridges kept clogging and were getting impossible to find. for a while Costco had a refill service, not sure if that still exists.

I did shopping yesterday and never got in a workout. today we will go mt biking. my legs are sore yet so that will help loosen them up. my left leg got a lot more sore than my right for some reason. I need to be careful I'm not using one leg more than the other.

Judy, I think most bikes have gone to that configuration. 3 front chain rings always were a problem. I always had trouble getting the shift mechanism to use all three. chain would get stuck between the rings, or just plain fall off. both our road bikes and mt bikes use the 2 ring configuration and it works much better. not such a picky adjustment either.

Today was STS D11 Back and Triceps. My time was 1 hour 10 minutes with 277 calories burned. Average heart rate was 104 and maximum heart rate was 129.

Enjoy the day everyone.

we did the mt bike today as planned. about 2 hours 15 minutes. I forgot to stop the timer, plus we ended up talking to one of the tree farm crew people digging out a culvert. it was on the road we rode in on and when we came back it was a 10 foot hole of loose dirt. lots of culvert replacement for fish passage. anyway, he was a funny guy and we had a laugh about some of the young people who ride right up on him while operating heavy equipment without a thought that they are in danger because he can't see or hear them. us older and smarter people jump up and down if needed to let someone know we are there!. even the horse people don't get it. someone recently built a campfire at the top of the tree farm where there is a monument even though everything is tinder dry so they had to put a wooden sign up there saying "no campfires" . we have had no rain in 3 months, a fact that cannot escape anyone living here. this is a privately owned tract of land that allows mt bikers and hikers and horse people to use the land if we behave . dumb dumb dumb. hate to have some idiots ruin it for everyone else.

Today's workout was supposed to be the Strong and Sweaty Cycle dvd or other cardio. I did this the last time and had no desire for it so I did Party Rockin Step 1, 54 minutes, heart rate average 134, max 171, 357 calories, 5,019 steps. I really tried to put a lot into this and am surprised at the burn for the heart rate. Oh, well, that is the way it is. My heart rate was only 59 when I started and it drops back so fast. I have to hit the bank, pay bills, get some eye allergy drops, and go to the dentist today. Also more guest pre like putting the locks on my workout room for the little ones. I pre-ordered the new workouts this morning. I couldn't get it to go through without error messages with Explorer so changed to Chrome and it worked fine. I don't get why that is. I know Chrome seems faster. But, then Chrome has it's problems as well. Like why do the emoticons blink on Cathe's and then disappear?

Valerie, i bet those people experiencing the hurricane and flooding would like to give you some rain. We went for over a month with no rain. Everything was pretty well stunted and half dead.

Carolyn, good calorie burn with STS. Those are such long workouts and I always wanted to add the extended stretch to them.

Today my cardio was Step Moves. I'm getting better with this one! Workout time was 45 minutes with 327 calories burned. Average heart rate was 128 and maximum heart rate was 151.

Diane Sue, I want to do the Extended Stretch after the STS workouts also but my time doesn't always allow for that.

Valerie, I really admire your dedication to biking. It's great that you and your husband share that interest. Have you always been an outdoor sports enthusiast? I am very klutzy with most sports. My only outside exercise is an occasional walk when the weather is milder.

Deb, Cardio Core Circuit is from the Shock Cardio Series but I think Cathe did a Live version.

Greetings to Lori, Judy, and Caitlin.

Good afternoon,

Still no workouts for me. I hope to start Sunday.

Diane Sue, I am not sure I would buy another HP Envy printer. It seems like I have had problems with this one since we got it.

Valerie, I like to see the time, outside temp, and the ave mpg that the car is getting. There does not seem to be a simple screen with those 3 things. I had always heard that if you use refill cartridges, it messes up your warranty. I can't believe people would build campfires in that area, especially when it has not had rain for so long.

Carolyn, yes, I think you are right...I did not get the Shock Cardio series, but believe that there is a Live Cardio Core Circuit that was pretty good.

Taking my cousin to the airport in a little while...nothing else going on here...

Take care,

Carolyn, I think that I have done the Cardio Core Circuit live workout.

Deb, I have had my HP Envy 110 for 5 years now with no problem at all. Mine would be beyond warranty at this point. I have purchased the YoYo ink cartridges 3 times now in the XL and they last a long time and work great even for printing pictures. After my experience with another seller, I would not purchase any others. Those all ended up in the trash. They were the 564 that had the colors and two black. They didn't work well with two different printers that took that kind.

Carolyn I'm not a great athlete but I have good endurance. I used to run a lot, and DH and I hiked and backpacked a lot. we don't run much anymore, and we took a long break away from road biking after a few scary rides. when we went back to it, we needed to upgrade the bikes. we hadn't ridden for 20 years. so we bought new bikes and got back at it and then decided to try mt biking too. I'm not a natural at that either, but I have kept it up and am now a decent mid range rider. DH picked it up faster than I did and will always be better, but I still get up the hill and back down.... a little slower, but that's OK. I used to crash a lot but not much anymore. It was fun and we have nice places to ride. I don't have to be "the best" just to have fun. I also seem to have maxed out at round 25 mile road rides. my wrists bother me too much to go much further, so we do 25 on more days, rather than 50 miles occasionally.
we have not hiked or backpacked as much as we used to. hope to add more in when we have a less crowded area. it has gotten terribly busy here, to the point I am not enjoying hiking like I used to. It isn't fun to me if there is a line of people going and coming and piling up everywhere. I don't do outdoor exercise when it's hot. we purposely live in an area that trends cool. we xc ski and snowshoe and hike in winter, even in cold conditions in the rockies. I do fine in cold!. I do not sweat and don't tolerate heat so as it gets over 70 I need to go very early, or not at all. If I lived in a hot climate, I'd move. I hate hot and humid. never liked team sports or racket sports. Dh and I have hiked and backpacked literally thousands of miles. it was our vacation most years. I haven't done STs in years, and you are doing so well with it, it makes me want to go back and do it again. maybe this winter I will have some unbroken stretches where I can do it again.

Deb, we got our car dirty today driving to the trailhead up a forest service road. Tires are not shiny anymore! it performs well, we are happy. we did a nice hike today, timed it right, only saw 2 people all day. 5 1/2 hrs. I will try again to post some pics but I think they are too big.

Deb I was stunned to see a fire ring at the top of the tree farm it is as dry as a cracker. Beyond stupid. All kind of brush fires everywhere and warm besides so no need for a fire. no common sense . The tree farm guy was talking about how these people walk or ride up on him while he is running heavy equipment and he can't see or hear them. DH and I did the opposite.... made sure he saw us before we got close, waited until he waved us thru. Wear screaming yellow jackets. Were ready to detour if needed.

Good morning,

Diane Sue, where do you get those cartridges? It seems like mine run out constantly.

Valerie, glad you are enjoying the new car! I am always amazed at the outdoor exercise you and your DH do.

Hi to all....

Any plans for the weekend?

Take care,

Good morning ladies!

Just saying Hi! Really busy on conference stuff but still keeping up with my workouts. Wanted to say hi and will catch up on posts tonight.

What is everyone doing for this holiday weekend?

Have a great day all!

Today I did STS D12--Legs. This completes Meso 1 and next week is active recovery. My workout today was1 hour with 262 calories burned. Average heart rate was 108 and maximum heart rate was 145. I followed up with the Extended Stretch for 15 minutes.

Greetings to everyone and I hope you have a wonderful day.

Hi Everyone,

Just getting caught up on posts for the week. Monday I did ICE Metabolic Total Body with Muscle Meltdown Chest and To The Mat Bands Only. Tuesday was an active rest day. Wednesday I did a Spinerval and the no equipment segment of Core Max, yesterday I did Strong & Sweaty-PHA Training and Jessica Smith Stride and Step, and today I did Yoga Max.

Deb-We don't have any set plans but I'm hoping we can get outside and do some biking this weekend.

Valerie-you do have a lot of endurance! Your bike rides are amazing!

Diane Sue-My heart rate drops back really fast too. It stayed in the 60's for most of Yoga Max today. I have to work pretty hard to get it to stay up.

Carolyn-Great job with Meso 1! I'm going to start STS on Monday. I will be starting with Meso 2.

Lori-I hope you have a relaxing holiday weekend. It sounds like you are having a busy week at work. Chris has had a hectic week too and is really looking forward to time off.

we rode the regular trail today for 25 miles. my legs feel Ok but will probably give them the day off tomorrow and do an upper workout that didn't get done earlier this week. we are planning to stay close to home this weekend. not a favorite holiday, I'd rather not deal with crowds and traffic. this morning was not bad here since so many people take off for the weekend.

DH does not like the hitch mounted rack we got, a Thule. . he thinks it bounces too much so we will likely be returning it to rei and getting a different rack, maybe a tray rack. used twice but he is bothered by what eh thinks is too much bounce. I need to research a little and maybe we can get it done over the weekend.
Carolyn, good for you, getting thru meso 1 without a problem.

Today's workout was Ripped With Hiit Circuit Legs, 48 minutes, 371 calories, heart rate average 132 max 170, 2,683 steps. I added on Ice Lower Body Blast Biizzard, 17 minutes, 133 calories, heart rate average 130, max 160,795 steps. Total time was 65 minutes, 504 calories. This morning I got done early and we went on a motorcycle ride and had lunch in a small city away from Oklahoma city. I had barbecue brisket and okra. I probably should have got green beans but most barbecue places serve the canned green beans and put bacon in it. I don't like canned.
I am still baking this evening. Will put roast and new potatoes in the slow cooker tomorrow for the evening meal when my niece is here.

Valerie, those trees can go up in flames very quickly. Nice that you are liking your new vehicle. I hope you find something that works without bounce.

Deb, I get the ink cartridges through Amazon. They are YoYo Ink. I was amazed the first time we purchased them because we printed a lot of photos and things and the cartridges lasted a very long time. Each time we have purchased it is the same.

Lori, I hope the conferences go well for you. It is good that you are still getting your workouts in. It probably helps with the stress.

Carolyn, you are doing well with STS. It looks like you are almost ready for Mesocycle 2.

Judy, good job on the workouts this week. I do all kinds of stuff to try to get my heart rate to stay up. With Yoga it is like I am almost asleep. I am amazed at the met value for yoga on the workout manager. I think biking would be a nice way to enjoy the holiday.

Good morning,

I am going to start a rotation tomorrow. It will be good to be back at workouts again.

Lori, nothing special for us this weekend. We have a memorial to go to, and maybe start some yard cleanup. It is supposed to be sunny and 80 tomorrow.

Carolyn, good to look forward to Meso 2. It is my favorite from STS.

Judy, great workouts!

Valerie, I never liked the bike rack we bought...too complicated and time consuming to use. We have a Thule carrier for the top of the car and that is really nice.

Diane Sue, that ride and lunch sound like a nice way to spend the day. I don't like canned vegetables either...especially green beans. I don't think there is a restaurant in NY that serves okra! :) I checked out those ink cartridges on Amazon and will try them next time we need one.

Have a great day!

Deb we have always used the racks that mounted on the tailgate. the Outback was the first one to get body damage from it. BIG dent. we kept breaking the stretchy bands that held bikes to the bars. I've been saying " hitch mount" for years and DH finally agreed. I think the current rack is probably fine, but I don't want to listen to DH complain about it and he got it in his head it bounces too much. we ordered a different one also a Thule. . part of the issue is mt bikes are much heavier than road bikes and we carry the bikes long distances over bumpy roads. the tray system looks less wiggly. so next week it should get here. we will return this one and pick up a different one at the REI store. we want to carry the bikes 700+ miles back and forth so better support is probably better. this one wobbles much more than we anticipated it would.

good that you feel like you can get back into a rotation! take it easy the first few times.

diane sue that is good about the ink... I will check it out when we need cartridges. is it a lot cheaper than the HP ink at Costco? I will check next if you don't know right off.

I have never seen okra on a menu anywhere. I've had it and liked it, but DH threw a screaming fit. did not like it!. canned green beans are probably worse. frozen ones are decent, but most canned vegies are too salty, mushy and inedible. I use canned tomatoes, occasionally canned corn but I think that is it. frozen is usually much better.

Today's workout was Ripped with Hiit Plyo Hiit #1, 28 minutes, 194 calories, heart rate 134 average, 166 max. Also on the rotation was RWH abs #1 10 minutes, 49 calories and I added on the bonus abs from Fit Tower Advanced, 12 minutes, 32 calories. Workout was 50 minutes, calories 275 total. Waiting for our company to arrive. Some of my family will be coming over for dinner.

Deb, I hope the cartridges work well for you like they have for me. Having a rotation sure makes the decision making easier and encourages to workout.

Valerie, I am not sure what they cost at Costco. I paid 29.95 for the XL60 pack of both the black and color cartridges.

I love okra. Fried, breaded, or in gumbos and soups.
