Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 8/20

Today's workout on my rotation was Ripped with Hiit Legs , 44 minutes, 217 calories, heart rate 111 average, 144 max, 1,779 steps. I followed this with Ice Low Impact Sweat cardio 2 timesaver, 28 minutes, 202 calories, heart rate average 126, max 155, 1,824 steps. Total time was 72 minutes, 419 calories. I have shopping and some cleaning today. Tomorrow my husband is taking me to dinner he has made reservations for and Sunday family is coming for my birthday. My next two weekends are full. My niece and her family are coming labor day weekend and the following we are doing a poker run on our motorcycle over 80 miles and my oldest daughter's in laws are going with us. It ought to be fun. We haven't done that in a few years.

Deb that is too funny... I spent a lot of energy trying to record appts in my phone but went back to paper calendars. it is so much easier to make and change appts and easy to see. I use the cathe calendar above my desk and also a small pocket paper calendar. I occasionally put something in the phone calendar but it's such PITA that I don't bother much anymore. I can't remember to look at it whereas the paper one is hanging in front of me. I can schedule tentative things and then erase too. good thing you called though or a whole lot of wasted time. I think I forgot about the car color... it's silver. I liked the jasmine green but DH thought he'd get tired of it, so another silver car for us. is yours an "18? has a touch screen and a toggle/ push button type thing. you can press it, press and hold, and push it downward or upward. it's small. part of the issue is if someone is showing you how to do something, their hand completely covers it. the screen above is changing but you can't see what the person is doing. DH wrote down the sequence. I have not gotten through it successfully yet. myriad ways to do it wrong. yes, our "old" '12 Outback had a simple button to change the time. easy. took about 2 seconds. same with the radio/cd. I haven't tried it yet but this will take some time since it is NOT intuitive. screen is hard to read and I expect worse in bright sunlight. if you brush against the screen while using the toggle it turns on the radio so I think changing anything while driving will be close to impossible. I get angry when something simple and easy that works gets made into something complicated for no clear reason. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" comes to mind.

I gave up on the TV. there are the several remotes and sometimes the ipad. the apple TV device at each house is different. I am not very patient or interested. If DH were not here to do it, I'd find something simpler even if it was more expensive.

STS D9 Legs complete. Time was 58 minutes, average heart rate 114 and maximum 143. I had a dentist appointment at 9:00 so I did the workout early, but I wanted to add some cardio. After my appointment I did ICE Low Impact Sweat Blizzard Blast for 20 minutes and 139 calories.

Deb, it's good that you called before going out for appointments. At least you had a free day.

Greetings to all and have a great day.

Valerie, I am not a big tv person myself. As long as my upstairs tv and dvd player works for my workouts that is all I need. When my husband was out of country I often wondered why I kept paying for the cable since I never turned it on unless I had grandchildren over and we watched a movie which usually did not require cable. I would rather read or something.

Carolyn, good job on coming home and doing some cardio. I am not good at coming back and doing something later. Maybe a stretch or yoga, but even that I tend to shrug off.

Rode the tree farm this morning. 2 hrs, 6 3/4 miles. never saw it this dry before, no mud anywhere. used our truck to carry the bikes. we are getting a hitch mount on the new Forester Monday. Bike Racks on sale at rei, and a good place to use the last of our dividend and two gift cards.
funny...I noticed how easy it is to change the clock and radio. truck is a 2009. it is probably futile to hope car electronics will get simpler or at least not more difficult. this is my first car with a back up camera and THAT part is great. Diane sue I think you mentioned before how hazardous it is to back out of parking spots. it's like people see your back up lights on and take it as a challenge to charge thru anyway!

Judy are you on vacation? have you and chris been mt biking at all this year?

Good evening ladies,

Yesterday evening was P90x legs with a Bellicon Bounce in the morning. This morning was a BBS Dance workout with a quick Bellicon bounce. I am so addicted to bouncing! Of course I know you all know this! :p

Nilla is still sleeping good. She did cry a little bit last night but it wasn't long and she went right back to sleep. I feel bad about this but I also think it is better for her. She sleeps more and is not so stressed at night. Plus we need our sleep!

Valerie...Glad the physical went well. Your car sounds really nice. Congrats. 90 mins is a long time to be in a car for a doctors appt! Too funny with electronics..I am the opposite..bring on the electronics! We are going to look at bikes tomorrow for my husband and I am excited. Been wanting him to get one forever. Now that he is fit and trim he has all this energy. I love it! Good that you were able to do the high rep workout and pretty much pick up where you left off.

Deb...yes good thing you called your cousin! I have shown up for doctors a day early but never a week early!

Carolyn...my son did it and started off with 8lbs...I use 3lbs when doing this workout and wow!! Well he ended up dropping to 5's!!!! Was funny. I told him to start off with 8's and he was like "piece of cake". He was humbled for sure. :) It really is a very intense hi rep workout and he said he would do it again. Funny about the step workout. I have been there!

Diane Sue...great workouts today! It has been ages since I have done a RWH workout.

Have a hreat night all!

Hi Everyone,

This week really got away from me, I'm sorry I haven't posted. Monday I did Core Max 1, Basic Step and Muscle Meltdown Biceps, Tuesday was a rest day, Wednesday I did Basic Step and Muscle Meltdown Back, yesterday I did Core Max 1, and To The Mat-Bands & Floor Only and today I did Basic Step and 2 rounds each of Muscle Meltdown Biceps, Triceps, and Shoulders. Monday I tried Low Impact Step and realized that I wasn't as ready for it as I thought I was so I decided to stay with Basic for another week or two.

Deb-that is funny about the appointments. I can see that happening to me. We're planning on doing some biking this weekend.

Valerie-I wish we were on vacation :) Chris had vacation scheduled last week and had to cancel it due to things going on at work. We haven't been out mountain biking at all this year :( but Chris bought a new mountain bike over the weekend. It's a Giant Talon, with 27.5 inch tires. I'm hoping that will motivate us to get out, starting this weekend. Your rides sound awesome, as usual! Great job! Your new car sounds really nice!

Diane Sue-We aren't into television either. We cancelled our cable TV over 5 years ago and haven't missed it at all. We have 3 televisions, but only use them for workouts and occasional movies. I hope you have a wonderful birthday!

Carolyn-Great job with STS! I just ordered Step Moves. I won't be able to do it for quite a while, but it looks like a fun one to work up to.

Lori-I'm so glad Nilla is sleeping and that you are able to sleep too. I know how stressful that must be. Great job with all of your workouts!

Hi to Caitlin!

Judy

Judy too bad you have not been able to get away. mt biking is something I need to do regularly or I lose my nerve, and I'm not too big on nerve to begin with. I will never ride as fast or over big obstacles but that's OK. If I read a couple days close together, my skills get better, but I get rusty quickly. I haven't actually fallen in a long time. I get off and push up things I can't ride over, roll forward to the flattest spot and continue. my bike has 27.5" tires. DH has a 29". all the newer bikes come that way, 26 " are disappearing. I tried a 29 but the frame was too big. I could ride but it was a stretch to the handlebars. glad I stayed with the smaller frame. Trek makes certain frame sizes to go with certain wheel sizes. smaller frame, smaller wheel. much easier than sizing for road bikes. we are so lucky we have this tree farm close by. it's a 10 minute drive and we never saw anyone yesterday although several cars and horse trailers were parked when we got back.

we try to watch the local news around 5 and then watch a movie or a series. I enjoy series much more than movies. last 2 movies were wretched. all the good writing has gone to TV. have not watched any regular network TV in years.

Lori it would be great if you could ride along with us and change the clock . I'm not sure I'll ever do it. the vibrations you get in normal driving will make using this screen next to impossible IMO, and with so many steps, every wrong touch puts you off. many things are fine when sitting in a driveway, but touch screens driving as a passenger ...not so sure. going to pick up our new rack this morning, so i'll get a chance to try radio.

Deb where are you this morning? Diane sue.. happy birthday. what is a poker run? something connected to motorcycles?

Today on the rotation I did Ripped With Hiit Low Impact hiit #2, 219 calories, heart rate 121 average, 164 max, 2,032 steps. Also on the rotation it had RWH abs #2, 13 minutes, 30 calories, 88 steps. I added on Ice Low Impact Sweat cardio #1, 30 minutes, 191 calories, heart rate 121 average, max 155, 1,698 steps. Total time was 73 minutes, calories burned 420.

Lori, hopefully Nilla keeps sleeping like that for you,.

Judy, maybe since your husband got a new bike you will get some riding in. I am sure you will get used to the step where it will be easier when you work on another step workout. Thanks for the birthday wishes.

Valerie, a poker run is usually motorcycles, or at least all I have been to. This time there will be jeeps as well. You sign up and generally there is prizes and you get a t shirt. There is a designated start and destination stops throughout where everyone meets up and there will be chances for entering drawings, one stop is for lunch, and final drawings at the end. The money's for entering and donations go to a specific cause. The ones we have been to are all law enforcement related. I am glad there are stops because after the last stop there is still a trip home and we have a bit of a ride to the starting point. I think about 25 miles. So it will be a real long ride.

Hi Everyone,
Today I did Travis Eliot's Yoga Foundations, class #2. It was 54 minutes long. I thought that I would do just a part of it, but found that I wanted to do the entire practice. It was only 93 calories, but that is not unusual for me. It's a good yoga dvd. I purchased it a few years ago along with The Ultimate Yogi but haven't used them much.

Diane Sue, the poker run sounds like fun. I hope you enjoy it and that you have a good birthday. Is it today?

Judy, Low Impact Step has those blasts that can make it challenging. Step Moves is a challenge for me now, but I think I will have it after 1-2 more times trying.

Greetings to Deb, Valerie, Lori, and Caitlin.

Carolyn, yoga just doesnt ha ve emough movement most of the time to get a good calorie burn. It seems to get into fa t burning zone at times and regardless, it can feel so good. It definitely has its place. My birthday is tomorrow and family is coming with lunch. Today my husband had reservations for dinner in a restaurant at the top of a building looking out on the city. Very pretty looking out at the city lights. The restaurant used to turn , but it does nottanymore. The food was awesome. I got cedar plank grilled salmon and asparagus. I wore an infinity dress my husband bought me. Funtrying it in different styles. I wore it in a strapless dress fashion.
