Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 8/20

Good evening ladies,

My son and I started back yesterday with P90x after our rest week and we started with Chest, Shoulders and Triceps. I forgot how hard this one was! We did it and it fried our upper body. Today was Plyo but I took a rest day. Not sleeping well at all with Nilla. We need to figure something out.

I was able to download Michelle Dozios' On The Go workouts this morning. They look like fun and tough! I am looking forward to trying them out here and there. I love that she has premixes too for downloads also love no equipment which makes them great for travel.

Carolyn...that is what I thought about yesterday's workout. So many pushups! Every kind of pushup was in this workout. Even one arm pushups! My son and I were spent when this was done. You are truly doing great with STS.

Valerie...I hope your rug is found soon. I completely missed all his statements from last week. I was unconnected from everything it it felt really great. I am a breakfast person too. When I have lab work done I love that I can still have my coffee. I drink it black and they have always said no problem. I would not be happy without my coffee in the morning.

Diane Sue...one of the reasons I went digital. I was running out of room with all the programs and DVD's I have required. In each of my instructor's folders I have more folders for each of their programs. I also created a folder with my favorites and they are listed by type of workout...kickbox, upper, lower, etc. I thought I would miss the covers with the descriptions and I do, but not enough to not go digital. I was planning to do the Rock m Sock Blizzard Blast today. Have you done this? I kind of forgot about it. Looks like fun.

Deb...nice walk with your cousin. We have a rail trail close by and I have yet to go on in. Nicholas has mentioned biking it.

Caitlin...hope your move goes well!

Judy...have fun with Cardio Blast!

Have a great night all!

Carolyn, nice calorie burn with Rock Out Knock Out today. I just have my coffee and greens/collagen drink mixture in the mornings.

Lori, I forgot about those 1 arm push ups. I remember being proud of myself when I did those the first time and made it through. I am sorry Nilla is causing you loss of sleep. Making a decision to get sleep and still make Nilla comfortable is tough. You sound like you have a lot of digital workouts. Yes, I have done the blizzard blast for that one quite a few times. Generally I do it with the entire workout, but have used it for add ons or a nice intense quick warm up before weights. I really do like the addition of those on the Ice workouts.

Good morning,

Yesterday I went to class with Kylee, no workout. I was feeling a little dizzy in the morning, then it seemed to clear up.

Diane Sue, I can imagine how those book shelves were filling up with all the workouts you have. I like keeping mine in the original cases...like Carolyn, I like to read the descriptions on the back. I don't have as many as you, I still have some VHS ones on the rack. I remember doing a week of just Blizzard Blasts and the MM's....I forgot about those...maybe do that again. I need to build up my arms. Losing so much weight so fast has made them very loose etc. I need to come up with a rotation where I can use the 4 round premixes of MM's for arms, but still have some cardio. I don't want to go over an hour though so it's tough to figure out.

Valerie, It's tough doing a fasting blood work test and having to wait a long time for the appointment so I can see why you would want one early. Except for the traffic of course.

Carolyn, good job on the workout!

Lori, nice that your rest week coincided with your trip to the cape. Poor little Nilla....up again at night? She must have her days and nights mixed up? Does she sleep a lot during the day?

Taking my friend to the DR this morning...I have to pick her up at 7:15 so no workout...

Take care,

Deb, i think if you wanted to put the 4 rounds of MM together with a Blizzard Blast itvwould workout to under anhour if you just do one warm up and one cooldown. For shorter cardios there are the X10 workouts or cardio from KCM Body Design. ReallybCathe has a lot that can be broke down into shorter cardios. X Train Low Impact can be done as just floor or step etc.. just ideas:) itbjust started making me think of some. I am glad the dizziness went away.

I have a couple plastic shoe boxes I use to keep workouts organized. Keep a ring binder for printed worksheets mostly in chronological order I don't have as many as most of you.
Deb hope you feel better soon. I didn't feel well the last two days but back to normal today. I need to get back on plan! Felt exhausted and headachy all day yesterday . Glad I did the blood draw yesterday though , so I have all results already. All look good.
Got email from HD that our rug got to Bozeman so only a week late. Need to be sure they hold it until we come back in a month or so.

Today's workout was Cardio Slam, 54 minutes, 349 calories, heart rate 125 average, max 148, 4,029 steps. I sure felt like my heart rate should have been higher than that. If this was not on my schedule today I think I would have done something else. But, that is why I chose a rotation.
The bonus abs was on this from Strong and Sweaty so that was next, 13 minutes, 49 calories, heart rate average 104, max 129, 289 steps :0.
I added on the Fit Tower Advanced Bootcamp mish mosh cardio and abs, 29 minutes, 152 calories, heart rate average 113, max 152, 1,028 steps. Total time was 96 minutes, calories burned 550, Total Steps so far 5,829.

Valerie, I couldn't imagine how many shoe boxes it would take to organize my workouts. I use those for extra bands and small equipment :) I am glad that Home Depot found your rug. I hope they hold it and don't sell it to someone else or some other crazy thing. Maybe they have better staff there than they do here.

Today I did STS D8--Back and Triceps. Workout time was 1 hour 14 minutes with 271 calories burned. Average heart rate was 102 and maximum heart rate was 130. I'm glad that I decided to do this rotation. I am enjoying it and can already feel the benefits.

Valerie, so glad that HD has your rug. I hope everything works out with it.

Diane Sue, you are right that Cathe has many dvd workouts that can be shortened. I realized that as I am going through many of them.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

That is my concern exactly...... That HD will return it to the vendor after 30 days even though we tell them to hold it a little longer until our next trip. Then they will turn into a marvel of efficiency!

I used to always drink black coffee so yesterday was fine. I've gotten used to skim milk lattes though, so had it after I got home. I don't like my coffee sweet but have gotten to prefer with milk.

DH got to do a ride while I got my exam so maybe a weight workout later. I have not been consistent the last two weeks

Carolyn, nice work on STS and good calorie burn for that one.

Valerie, I never like sweetener in my coffee, but do need cream or coconut milk or cashew milk. I am not fond of almond milk. Best is homemade cashew milk, but I go through it too fast for all of the work put in.

Good evening ladies,

This mornings workout was Rock m Sock m Blizzard Blast followed up with 2 Bellicon Bounces. Tonight my son worked late so instead of the P90X workout scheduled for today I did a BBS upper target and SB bis and tris. Total time for arms was 18 minutes and wow my arms were done in. Love these targets together. I feel so strong after these two! talked my son into doing these tonight so will let you know how he makes out. This was the same arm target my husband bailed on! Total for the day was 59 mins /398 cal.

We slept well last night. Nilla was in our bathroom with her pillows. And to our surprise she slept all night. Going to try this again tonight.

Diane Sue...I can only do a couple of one arm pushups before going to my knees. I usually always do pushups on my knees but always try the one arm ones with straight legs before I collapse! I was just looking at Cardio Slam. Going to try and fit it in this week. I haven't seen anything new from Amy Bento on Youtube. Thought she would have posted another by now.

Valerie...great they found your rug! Will they hold it for a month? That is kind of scary. Funny I can not drink anything other than black coffee. Great all is good with your lab work. That was a really quick turnaround.

Carolyn...I am looking forward to STS. Hoping my son still wants to do it after P90X. If not it will be the FT rotation I did not finish. I was enjoying this so will be happy to pick it up again.

Deb...yes it worked out perfectly for the rest week while on vacation. Glad you are feeling better. I would definately do more strength than cardio to build your arms back up. I really liked the most recent Live upper she did.

Have a great night all!

No workout today. physical went fine. Drive was way faster than expected but you still need to block out how much time it might... take which is 90 Min.utes and DH wanted to look at cars. We've been debating about trading our. '12 outback for many reasons. We need s better bike rack... hitch mount and need a hitch. That's a few hundred dollars. Need new tires. Both snow and regular and it is burning oil but not enough to be in the recall. Plus I never liked it I sit too low and the seat won't move high enough. So. We traded it for an '18 Forester. Did not seem worth putting that much money into a car I never liked but was worth a bit on trade in. I am keeping my old forester and will run it until it dies not worth anything on trade in So ... sigh .....another day without a workout. But a lot got accomplished.

Good morning,

I did an agility class yesterday with Kylee, not a lot of exercise but it was fun.

Diane Sue, thanks for the suggestions. I will keep them in mind when I get back to it.

Valerie, good that they found your rug! They had better hold it until you get there, after what they put you through! Once I started drinking coffee black, I don't like regular cream etc in it. I do like the occasional cappuccino though. Congrats on the new car! What color did you get? I love my Forester.....we have had 5 so far.

Carolyn, great job on STS.

Lori, glad Nilla had a better nights sleep and you too!

I have a DR appointment this morning....follow up. I am still not 100%....

Take care,

Deb our bike rack fits on the tailgate right now , straps to the roof and tailgate edges. It has made a BIG shallow dent above the license plate over time, mainly from the road bikes. the mt bikes are a lot heavier and we did not feel ok carrying them there on a long trip. If the rack failed it could drop the bikes and what a mess that could be ! It took time, years, for the dent to slowly develop so we can use old racks on the old forester until we get the hitch mounted. REI has racks on sale next week and we already know what we are getting using our dividend. Hitch mounts are stronger . I wanted one on the outback but DH didn't think it was necessary so he "didn't notice" the dent developing until I pointed it out.

It is silver with platinum cloth interior. I don't like leather. Our Outback was black cloth and I would not ever do that again.

I love my coffee black or a latte with skim. Fat from cream ruins the flavor and sharp flavor I like. I don't even like 1% milk, has to be nonfat

Lori hope you have nilla's sleeping arrangement worked out. Everyone has to be happy

Lori, nice workout choices. I just looked att Amy on YouTube as well and saw nothing. I still havent done that third workout because i dont want to do extra weight work right now with my rotation if there is very much on it. Thats good Nilla slept for you. I hope that wrks again.

Valerie i bet you will love your new car. A 90 minute drive for a Dr appointment is a long one. I did 100 miles forv2 years , but that was because i was keeping my doctor when we moved away for awhile and I would come and stay with family and visit at the same time. It wasnt such a good idea when i had the knee surgery though.

Deb, hoping positive help at you doctor appointment.

diane sue my doc's office is 47 miles. my phone gave drive time of 90 minutes. we have terrible traffic here especially during commute. traffic was not backed up yesterday morning. but you never know for sure since it can go to crap in a minute. she was at a closer clinic until this year when she moved. I've seen here for several years so will keep her as long she
Deb hope things go well at the appt today.

we will be working on the car business today. DH just came in and said the electronics are not simple and even setting the radio or clock time is challenging. the salesman set them up yesterday along with the Bluetooth. it linked right away with the iphone so everything transferred to the car immediately. we don't use the phone when driving unless calling 911. too distracting. everyone I ever talked to using their Bluetooth hookup ... you can't understand. it's illegal here to use a hand held phone, not that it stops most people. we have to drop some things off at the dealer today so maybe we will get a review.

Today I did Step Moves for 44 minutes and 319 calories. I made myself chuckle a couple of times as I tried to do the reverse moves. I kept moving even when I couldn't follow her and I had fun. I don't mind a learning curve if it's not enough to become frustrating. I followed up with Icy Core 1.

Valerie, congrats on the car. The technology in new vehicles is definitely becoming more complex. I always drink my coffee black so I was fine to have it before my blood work.

Lori, I am interested in knowing whether or not your son followed through with the arm exercises. You are doing great with P90X.

Deb, hope your medical appointment goes well.

Hello to Diane Sue, Judy, and Caitlin.

Today I wanted a bit of cardio warm up so I did Tracey Staehle Cardio Kickbox Challenge 30 minute premix, 195 calories 113 average 155 max heart rate. I followed with the rotation doing Ripped With Hiit Chest, Shoulders, Triceps, 41 minutes, 177 calories, sverage heart rate 104 max 133. I finished off with Barre Amped Stretch upper and relaxation. 26 minutes 41 calories. Total time was 96 minutes calories 413. It has been over a year since I have done this upper body workout from RWH. I had to lower weights some from a year ago.

Valerie, I understand traffic time. I remember southern California and the drive time to and from work. You never knew how traffic might be and if you wanted to be somewhere at a specific time you had to make sure to leave early. I don't know why anyone wants to talk on a phone while driving anyway. My husband had my son install a GPS in my car and then took it and had a back up camera put on. I love the back up camera. My car is little and I don't know how many times I have had people try to run into me when I back out of a parking space. I try to park where I pull out. The GPS has the video and phone in it. I have only used the phone while sitting in a parking lot. I have no intensions of figuring which buttons to push to answer and I don't like talking on the phone and driving. Funny thing is that it came with a remote. I see no reason to use a remote. My car is small and again I would be trying to read the buttons on the remote.

Carolyn, if I go very long between doing a workout I find myself moving the wrong direction. Once I have followed Cather through that combo a few times I get it back. It never bothers me because I am still moving.
finisher kickbacks 10's x 20 reps

I did High reps today, upper and core. we will mt bike tomorrow so I didn't do the lower body parts other than warm up. felt good and didn't feel like I lost anything although it's been a while.

we had to drop some stuff at the car dealer so DH got a "road map" for how to change the clock time. good grief. it is 2 dozen steps to change the time forward and back ward for an hour time change. we need to do this often so I guess I will learn it.... but it is NOT intuitive. he says the radio isn't that bad but I am not very good at this. I can't do the TV.... once it gets to multiple remotes I am DOA. I want to turn on, change channels, turn off and no more. I would pay 2x as much and use cable because I could use it OK. I am getting to hate electronics.

diane sue... that is my approach. if I need to use the phone, I exit, use a parking lot or something. it is too dangerous to try to do it driving and the road noise makes it impossible for people to hear you anyway. plus, it is a huge ticket here now, and a primary offense, so you don't need to do anything else wrong to get pulled over. so far it hasn't made a dent in people yakking or texting but I'm not going to be one of them. it is getting to be like driving in LA here. I could not believe the rush yesterday morning. people were driving 80 and cutting in and out like lunatics with nothing to gain.

Good morning,

I don;t know what I was thinking yesterday, but I was a week ahead of myself. I had in my mind that I had the DR appointment in the morning, and had to take my cousin to the airport in the afternoon. I called her yesterday morning, right before leaving for the DR appointment to ask what time I had to pick her up. She was confused, said her trip is next Thursday! What?? I looked at my calendar and saw that the DR appointment and her trip were next week. Good think I called her. I would have driven to the DR for nothing. Talk about embarrassing.

Valerie, the new car sounds really nice. I have a really hard time adjusting the clock in mine....sometimes I have to play around with it for 10 minutes or more... Always have to get the book out. It makes no sense why they made that so complicated. I would be interested in that "roadmap" that your husband got....the book is horrible. The Bluetooth works really well in mine.

Diane Sue, nice workout!

Hi to all, hope everyone has some nice weekend plans!

Take care,

Valerie, i wish they would make it a standard simple way to adjust the clock in vehicles. I always have to get out the book. I hadnt thought about how it will be with the new GPS screen in my car. It seems that bluetooth could automatically do it when we turn the vehicle on or something. Remotes are annoying. My husband has 3 on his end table. I dont operate that tv often and have to go through to find the right one. There is a 4th for the vhs player that he keeps in the drawer since it is not used often. Remotes are in 3 rooms in the house. It is crazy when one is lost via grandchildren.

Deb, good thing you called before leaving the house. So now you have to prepare all over again in a week.. i sometimes find those times a relief because i can stay home.
